Robert Pattinson nominated as Best Actor and
Good Time nominated for Best Feature Film by
the Gotham Awards

The Gotham Awards is one of the leading awards for independent film and signals the kick-off to the film awards season. The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the nation’s premier member organization of independent storytellers, has announced the nominees for its 27th Annual IFP Gotham Awards. For 2017, ten competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series.

The Gothams heaped nomination glory on films that are expected to contend this season, including the Safdies’ “Good Time” with nominations for Best Feature and Best Actor for Robert Pattinson, Craig Gillespie’ “I, Tonya,” and Jordan Peele’s “Get Out,” which pulled in four nominations.

As the first major awards ceremony of the film season, the IFP Awards provide critical early recognition and media attention to worthy independent films. The awards are also unique for their ability to assist in catapulting award recipients prominently into national awards season attention.

Josh and Benny Safdie celebrated their Good Time Best Feature Film nomination and Robert Pattinson’s Best Actor nomination at the Gotham Awards in New York today by posting this photo on their IG.

Good Time exists because of Robert Pattinson.

He saw a still photo from the Safdie’s film, “Heaven Knows What,” and based on that still, he emailed them, saying he wanted to work with them on their next film, whatever it was. They were not familiar with Rob’s work, and at first didn’t respond to his email. One of their friends, Sebastian Bear-McClard, did know who Rob was and told them to reply immediately. They did, and after meeting with Rob, were inspired to write Good Time, with Ronald Bronstein. The rest is history. Good Time premiered in competition at Cannes in May and Rob won the Best Actor award from the International Cinephile Society and the IndieWire Critic’s poll for Best Performance. Earlier this year he received a career achievement award at the Deauville Film Festival and he will receive the “Maverick” award at the Savannah Film Festival on Nov. 3rd, 2017.

The Gotham Awards will take place in New York on Nov. 27th.
