Accidental Demon Part 6
I don’t know why I am so nervous. Its just my grandma. I know its been a long time and I know she will be happy to see me. Mom and Dad told me that she doesn’t know about the accident. They said that they found a look-a-like and have been sending her pictures of this kid to pretend it’s me. Like that’s not creepy at all. And thanks to this kid, I have to wear these goth clothes and learn bands that I don’t know. What if I mess up? What if I slip up? Let the secret out? Mom told me about her heart condition. I don’t want to surprise grandma and give her a heart attack. I don’t want to kill grandma. But I need to see her. I really miss her. She was always my biggest fan, no matter what I did.
I need to stop being so scared. I need to just walk up to the door. That’s right. Just one step at a time. Ok. Here I go. I’m knocking. “H-hey grandma.” “Oh, hello Todd, did you lock yourself out again?” “Yeah, something like that.” “Well come in. I didn’t think you would get done feeding the animals so quickly. You must have missed the cookies I made, they are still sitting on the counter.” Feeding the animals? Did mom and dad hire the kid to come to grandma’s too? “Umm, thanks grandma? “Oh, while you are in there, please make me a cup of tea.” “Yes, grandma.”
Well this is going good…ish? Is her mind slipping too? I see a plate of crumbs but no cookies? I hope I can still spend time with her. I mean, I just got back to normal. At least the house is still the same. The tea and cups and kettle are still in the same spot. I missed her tea. I don’t know why but making it at home is just not the same. The water is ready now. Here’s the tea bag but now where’s the sugar. It was here before but she moved it in the past thanks to ants. I am still not finding it, I better ask. My legs are getting weak. “Hey, Grandma, I can’t find the sugar. Where’s the sugar again?” “It’s in the pantry, honey. Make sure to put things back where they belong.” I laugh softly to myself, “yes, grandma.” I miss this. The order of her house. I go to the pantry when I hear cans fall. Did a raccoon get in the house again or has she not been able to keep the order as she once did? I walk cautiously to the door. I hear a loud noise. I grab a broom for defense. I swing the door open and a half fallen thing is lurking there. I almost scream but again, I don’t want to frighten grandma. I watch quietly as what became human size seemed to grow another foot or 2 in front of me. It calmly reached and handed me the sugar. Its red eyes seemed to pierce into me and it’s shark smile chilled me to the bone. I almost fell. I took it as it said, “she takes 2 spoons of sugar and a drop of milk.”
I know how she likes her tea! I have been making it for years! But how does it know?! I collected myself and spoke back, “I don’t know who or what you are but we will need to talk.” It nodded, “The barn. First chance you get. Don’t run or I will find you and it will be worse for you.” It was my turn to nod. I see it has the cookies grandma mentioned in it’s other hand. How long has it been here? I closed the pantry with it still in there as I returned to grandma. I need to sit before I fall over. At this rate, I might be the one to have the heart attack.
