Gomphrena globosa is in the family Amaranthaceae. Commonly known as globe amaranth, it is native to Central and South America including Brazil and Guatemala. There are many cultivars available for gardens, which have been bred to have vibrant inflorescences that range in color from purple to red and magenta.
