How much does Eadric rely on his cane? In the same vein, what caused him to require one?
Oh, man. I’ve been anticipating this question.
So, first question: How much does he rely on it. I’ve had a lot of experience with injury over the years - comes with the job. Eadric’s is a bad knee, which makes walking annoying.
When he’s on the job - actually walking around, doing inspections and whatnot - he tends to just wear a brace under his clothes, and he can do fairly well (only showing a bit of a limp) without a cane at all. This is mostly just to keep up appearances, but also because he tends to need both hands to either read all the paperwork he gets, or to properly chew out his subordinates.
I have a jank wrist (Had for about two-three years, now), and, sometimes it needs a brace. I usually only wear it when I’m expecting to do a LOT of heavy work (I can get through most kung fu and karate classes fine, now), but, man, it sucks. The thing about braces - or at least, the kind I wear - is that, they get really itchy and pretty sweaty really fast, and you sometimes have to wash them cause they can smell pretty foul after long enough. They’re made to give support, not be comfortable. I usually fiddle with and re-adjust mine a fair bit, and as soon as I can take it off, it’s off - Eadric’s the same way. I mean, again, mine’s just on my wrist, and my uniforms are all pretty light - the gom I wear doesn’t even have sleeves. Eadric’s wearing a military uniform over his - that must suck. When he’s at home, he avoids the brace like the plague, and either just doesn’t walk around much or uses a cane, since it’s more comfortable in the long run.
If he has to do inspection on a really hot day, he might just say ‘forget it’ and use his cane instead. One of the perks he’s discovered is, if he strikes it on the floor loud enough, you can literally watch the souls leave the younger Guards’ bodies as they all suddenly embrace their own mortality.
He thinks it’s funny.
As for how he got it - Eadric’s not that old. He climbed through the ranks pretty fast, and a lot of that has to do with how effective he was in the field.
Have you ever heard of Leo Major (Whose sniping stories actually make me think of Braigbar), a French-Candaian soldier-slash-real life action hero from World War II? How about Gaius Mucius Scaevola, my favourite Roman soldier? How about Gaius Popilius Laenas, who drew the line in the sand?
Can you tell I’m a history nerd, yet?
Anyway. Basic theme: These guys are all soldiers, at least Leo and Mucius were young guys (Not sure about Popilius), and all three of them were SO BRASSY you could’ve forged them into CANDLESTICKS and still have some left over.
That’s what Eadric was like, when he was young - that’s where Braig gets it. Eadric thought he was invincible, because somehow he always got away with this sort of bull, but he didn’t have Braig’s ridiculous Deus Ex Machina space powers to back up his claims - he just had the most idiotic dumb luck the Worlds have ever known. He made himself an asset to the Guard, and got himself promoted until he didn’t have to fight any more, and then kept fighting.
See, Eadric has this- I don’t wanna say spitfire, but he has a hell of a temper. He gets really quiet for a bit, and that’s your warning sign to STOP before he opens up the gates of Tartarus and Hel and all seven circles and God knows where else, and he thought battle was the best way to vent this. And he would NOT STOP FIGHTING and DICKING AROUND to get what he wanted until he got it. And I don’t have all the details sorted out, but there’s a bit of the story that Braig and Eadric are both agreeing on in my brain.
((Bit of a warning: This is a war story, so, it’s going under a cut. Nothing is at all graphic in description, but there are gonna be mentions of injury and violence and the like, so I’m putting it under a cut.))
Wait, where did you read that? About Genos crying over Saitama's depression?
It was translated by @aitaikimochi and I’m on mobile in bed or I would properly link you. It’s from some OPM book.
It says roughly something about Saitama saying “having over whelming power is really boring” and then Genos saying “when my Sensei told me if the unbearable sadness his power left him with I could not stop the oil tears from falling from my eyes.” The something like “wait for me to get stronger Sensei” or something I can’t remember gomen
