I do agree that this is a serious issue and a huge safety concern for the children who were victims of this. This needs to be addressed in the community on more social conscious level, because some Hmong parents buy gold necklaces for their newborns/children (I believe, a classism tradition/practice) and I’ve heard conversations that doesn’t scratch the surfaces of, “why would the homeless Hmong lady steal these gold necklaces”. Instead, just hate and fear statements and rumors that will not prevent this problem from increasing. My other concern is the poverty of Hmong Americans who are homeless and none of that is being discussed in the news or community. Only during a “crime” convicted would local mainstream and Hmong newspapers would bring up homelessness and poverty, but not even touching on the importance of why that is happening. What kind of local newspaper are ya investing and paying for?
*On another note, I’m also fed up with non-profits that exist to do work to help the community/people and use statistics of marginalized people/social issues then stating that other non-profit don’t do this work so they should get the funding, in which the funding is funnel from the oppressive system that they wanted to dismantle in the first place; they end up being that system themselves. Lastly, many non-profits end up tokenizing marginalized people/social issues. Privilege check non-profit-ers?
