It Started With A Waffle: Sweet Potato Nachos

“When it comes to the Super Bowl, I’m a big fan of sitting by the couch and nibbling on a table full of delicious snacks. What are my favorite snacks you ask? Nachos. Sweet potato nachos to be more specific. Layer them with all of your favorite toppings and stack ‘em however you’d like!”

Vegan Cauliflower Roast

When I first heard about substituting a freaking cauliflower in place of chicken or beef as a roast, I thought okay as a vegan, I can actually say vegans have gone too far…

Until now. Roasting cauliflower is pretty simple really. Stick it in the oven then eat it, but it’s really about getting the right texture and flavour. When done right, cauliflower is tender and meaty, and you can eat the whole head without feeling sick. This is a beginners guide on how to make the perfect Cauliflower roast.

You’re going to start with a head of cauliflower, washed with the leaves removed. I baked mine in a cast iron skillet, but you can use any baking dish. Be sure to cut the leaves carefully and not too much of the stall or else the head will fall apart.

You’re then going to rub the cauliflower with a garlic dressing. To make it, blend or mash with a mortor and pestal:

5 cloves of garlic
2 tblsp olive oil
½ tsp cayenne
½ tsp sage
Salt and pepper to taste
I used a pastry brush to ensure all the flavour encasef the cauliflower, but you can use your hands too.

Next, cover with foil and bake for 1 hour at 350 C. After then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until golden brown and crispy on top. I served mine with sauteed Brussels sprouts, but this would go well with anything you’d serve with a roast, even just on its own.

Give this a try and get creative with using your vegetables! Try this with teriyaki glaze, or curry flavour, or barbecue, it’s super versatile. Who knew vegetables could be so appealing?

Tofu scramble with sweet potato hash browns.

So delicious and so simple. Two very important criteria for me when deciding what to cook. One, because, well, delicious food is important if I actually expect to eat anything (lol) and two, if it’s not simple I lose interest pretty quickly. I wouldn’t say I’m lazy but rather busy. I’m always running around doing several different things so instead of trying to find more time to cook (and making myself crazy) I find things to make that can fit into the time I already have available (which isn’t much lately). Feel me? Good.

Sweet Potato Hash Browns

1 large (or 2 medium) sweet potatoes, peeled and grated
¼ cup gluten free flour
2 tbsp. refined coconut oil (plus more for cooking)
½ tsp. salt

Wash and peel the sweet potatoes then shred them and using a colander, rinse the potato shreds until the water runs mostly clear. Squeeze the rinsed potatoes to remove excess water. I like to transfer them to paper towels to remove more water. Transfer potatoes to a medium sized bowl. Add flour, oil and salt and mix until incorporated.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil to a skillet on medium heat. Measure ¼ cup sweet potato shreds into the pan and use a spatula to flatten them. Cook for about 3 minutes per side or until golden to medium brown and crispy. Transfer cooked hash browns to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any excess oil.

Baked Butter Cookie Kit Kats

Last year, Nestle Japan famously released Baked Kit Kats, which you put in the oven to crisp up before eating. People naturally started experimenting with them, baking them on top of pizzas, inside croissants, as creme brulee… Coming up with all kinds of creative ways to use them.

Then, at the end of last year, just in time for the holidays, a new Baked Kit Kat flavor was released, Butter Cookie!

They were sold in convenience stores in boxes containing two mini bars, or in supermarkets in 13 count bags.

“When baking, please use a tray!!”, you are warned on the packaging…

As with the original version, they tasted just fine if you ate them “raw”, kind of like buttery white chocolate…

They were made for the toaster oven though, so I had to pop a couple in to feel the heat…

Two minutes later they came out golden brown, crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside…

They tasted exactly like what they were meant to… real butter cookies!

Well done, Nestle Japan!!

Seokjin Scenario: Sweeter Than Sweet.

Request: i would like a Jin scenario where it’s his 6th year of marriage with reader, and he let their 5 years old daughter help him making breakfast to bed for reader and help him pack her present. That being said, i already thank you so much!

Genre: Fluff / Family

Teasing you about you not being a morning girl was fun, and Seokjin was currently glad for that because that was going to give him time to prepare his surprise. It was ten minutes after six and he eyed you still asleep next to him with your messy bed hair and parted lips, he still liked to observe you sleeping even after all this time, there was just something about it that filled him with tenderness. He leaned down, placing a soft kiss on top of your head and you stirred a little but stayed asleep. Jin smiled and slid out of bed carefully, going to the bathroom for a quick shower and going through the plan on his mind.

There weren’t many things to do, and he thought that the hardest of it all was going to keep Soojin quiet through the making. Seokjin smiled and put on comfy clothes, his daughter loved to think she was on little missions, so he’d told her that they had a special mission today. He threw another glance to the bed where you were still curled beneath the duvet, it was so tempting to just stay there as well next to your warmth, to wake you up with soft kisses and caresses, those that you loved as he knew so well.

Jin shook his head and went out with a lazy smile on his lips, you were distracting even while doing nothing, was he ever going to stop being enthralled by you? probably not, and he was content with that. He had decided to let Soojin asleep at least until seven and a half, but when he passed by his daughter’s bedroom, she was already awake. When Soojin saw him, she ran to his way, hugging his leg and giggling like a girl who knew a juicy secret.

–Morning princess, I wasn’t expecting to find you awake – Soojin giggled and shoved her hair away in that same way you had of doing it.

–We have a mission dad, we need to be awake –

–Of course – Jin caressed Soojin’s hair and crouched down to hug her, his daughter was growing so fast he almost felt nostalgic whenever he looked at Soojin, she was looking a lot like you lately, always picking up small gestures because she looked up to you so much. –We are special agents, and what is our mission today? –

Soojin smiled delighted, bouncing a little on her feet that were adorned with bunny socks, she placed her little hands on her dad’s ear to share a conspiratorial whisper. –We have to make mommy happy –

–And are we going to succeed? –

Soojin nodded seriously, her big round eyes focused solely on him and then she giggled, making Seokjin laugh softly and pick her up on his arms, first step was to reach the kitchen, the mission of the day had officially started.

tony’s down in his workshop all day, kind of wondering where steve is, because steve’s been coming down every day recently, sitting there sketching and frowning over the art course he’s doing via correspondence. it’s been their little routine, steve brings tony coffee and sometimes they talk and sometimes it’s just quiet and it’s so. good.

it feels kinda empty somehow without steve there. tony feels itchy and awkward and lonely and grumpy, and when he finally hears steve coming in he doesn’t turn round or say hello. he knows it’s childish but he does it anyway.

‘hey,’ steve says behind him, and okay, that’s weird, what’s that sweet cinnamon smell? tony turns round, and he’s going to go for nonchalent, he hasn’t missed steve, who him? but then he sees that steve’s wearing an apron and carrying a hot, steaming, golden apple pie. tony’s eyes go round.

‘steve?’ he says, ‘what - why are you carrying a pie, what are you doing?’
steve’s cheeks are pink but he’s smiling down at tony with soft eyes, and oh, look, it’s too bright, tony somehow can’t look at steve properly.

'i made it for you,’ steve says, and then he shifts awkwardly from foot to foot and stutters, 'because - because you’re sweet as pie, tony, and i - i wanna take you out, on. on a date.’

'oh my god,’ tony says. 'you did not. did you really? sweet as pie, did you, did you actually say that? about me?’

steve carefully puts the pie down on the nearest flat surface. 'yep,’ he says, and wow, okay, this is, wow, tony can get with this because steve’s reaching for him, one firm hand at tony’s waist and the other cupping the back of his neck, guiding his face up.

and steve bend down and kisses him, slow and gentle, and tony’s senses are on overload because everything’s steve, steve tastes like cinnamon and apple and he feels so warm and good.

when steve pulls back a little, tony’s eyes stay closed for moment, fluttering, and he makes a little soft protesting sound. and steve laughs quietly and presses his nose against tony’s. 'sweet as pie,’ he whispers.

Steak, Potato and Radish Salad

  • 300g potatoes
  • 2 x 2cm thick rib eye steak
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 red onion
  • 200g radish
  • 1 romaine lettuce
  • 50g rocket

for the dressing:

  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1,5tbsp dijon mustard

Peel and cut the potatoes into chunky pieces. Place in a pan of water and bring to the boil. When boiling, simmer for 5-6 minutes, then drain well. Spill into a roasting tin, drizzle with 2 tbsp oil and season with salt and pepper. Roast for 30-35 minutes until the potatoes are golden and crispy.

Make sure the steaks have come to room temperature prior cooking. Rub the meat with 1 tbsp oil, then season well with salt and pepper. Sear the steaks in a very hot frying pan for about 2 minutes on each side (this will leave them rare, so if you prefer medium-rare, make it 3 minutes each side). Rest the steaks once they are cooked for at least 5 minutes.

For the dressing, mix all the ingredients together, then season with salt to you liking.

Slice the peppers, onions, radish and romaine lettuce thinly. Slice the steak as thinly as you can, then add to a plate with all vegetables and rocket and top with dressing.

Bon Appétit!

Castiel woke with a start.

The room around him was bright and warm. A soft breeze blew the curtain gently in the air above his face. He sat up slowly and the duvet rustled against his skin. The curtain brushed against his neck, a soft touch there and gone.

He could hear someone whistling.

Castiel stepped carefully out into the kitchen and there was Dean, standing in front of the stove, spatula in hand. He was whistling as he poured another measure of batter into the pan. The mouth-watering smell of butter frying filled the room.

Through the widow he could see a manicured lawn and gardens bursting with colour. Somewhere over the hill somebody was flying a kite.

He breathed out, and Dean turned and gave him the brightest smile he’d ever seen.

‘Morning sunshine, some coffee?’

Dean pointed with the spatula at the table, where a steaming mug sat waiting for him. Castiel sat, still slightly in awe of the moment in which he found himself. Dean turned back to the stove and busied himself flipping pancakes onto the plate waiting beside it.

‘Sam’s coming around later with the kids, he wants us all to go to the water park.’

Dean licked butter off his fingers as he plonked the plate down onto the table. He picked up a fork and twirled it theatrically before he plucked two steaming pancakes from the top of the pile.

‘That sounds… wonderful. Thank you, Dean.’ Dean smiled brilliantly again and Castiel had to remind himself how to breathe. He looked down at the pancake on his plate, golden brown and crispy around the edges. It smelled like hot butter and sugar. Perfect.

‘Yeah, but he made me promise not to go looking for a case while we’re there. Apparently he thinks I still don’t know how to relax.’

‘Well… I suppose we can’t help it if a case were to find us.’

‘Exactly.’ Dean waved his fork for emphasis, and went back to happily stuffing his face with pancake.’

Their brief moment of peace was broken by someone banging violently on the door.

Castiel’s heart leapt up into his throat, but Dean didn’t seem to hear it, and carried right on eating.

The banging came again, and the brightness of the room seemed to fade a little.

Castiel cleared his throat, trying to ignore the sinking feeling in his chest.

‘Come in.’

The front door burst open, and there was Dean. Another Dean. His Dean. Looking more real than anything else in the room.

Castiel’s heart broke a little at the sight.

Dean took in the scene before him with relief and a bit of confusion. He watched himself take another pancake off the pile and drench it in maple syrup. His eyes travelled across the table to Castiel, who was sitting half out of his chair, staring at him.

Neither of them said a word. Everything Dean thought he would say had vanished the moment he’d laid eyes on Castiel’s heaven.

‘Deano, we don’t have much time… the Angels are still out looking for us.’ Came a voice from somewhere outside.

‘Cas…’ Dean breathed, and held out his hand, silently begging Cas to take it.

Cas turned back to the table. He watched “almost Dean” carry on talking and laughing as if Castiel was still there in the moment with him.

‘Only if you want to.’ Dean’s hand trembled, almost imperceptibly.

Cas turned back to meet his eye. ‘Will you still make me pancakes?’

Dean, still holding out his hand, nodded.

Without a backwards glance, Cas took his hand and let Dean lead him out through the door.

“A crispy golden-brown, but not black, outer crust with a gooey melted cheese center is one commonly preferred level of preparation.”

“Uh, okay?”

“So… do you like it yet?”

Recipe: Fried Calamari

Description: It’s so chewy.

Game ingredients: Squid, Wheat Flour, Oil

This recipe restores 80 energy and 32 health. It can be obtained from Jodi after reaching 3 hearts and sells for 150g.

Difficulty: Easy, 30 minutes. Makes 4 servings.

This is the 100th post. Nice.

-1lb (450g) uncooked calamari, thawed.
-Frying oil
-1 cup flour
-1 teaspoon of each: black pepper, salt, paprika, dried parsley
-2 cups breadcrumbs
-2 or 3 eggs (or 1 egg and some milk if you’re like me and forgot you don’t have enough eggs)
Tartar sauce:
-2 cups mayonnaise
-¼ cup green relish
-1 tablespoon lemon juice
-2 pickled sweet onions, finely chopped (optional, can be substituted with 1 tablespoon vinegar)
-1 teaspoon dill

Combine the flour, black pepper, salt, paprika, and dried parsley on to a plate. Put the breadcrumbs on another plate, and crack the eggs into a bowl. Beat the eggs well with a fork.

Fill a frying pan or wok with oil til it’s about ¼ inch high. Alternatively, you can use a deep fryer. Heat on medium high.

Roll the calamari in the flour, dunk in the eggs and shake to remove excess, and then coat them in the breadcrumbs. Once the oil in the pan is hot, dump the calamari in. Cook until the breading is golden brown and crispy. You may have to flip them over so they cook evenly.

Transfer the calamari to a plate lined with paper towel to absorb excess oil. Once all the calamari has been made (you’ll probably need to do it in batches), prepare the tartar sauce as it cools.

In a bowl, mix together the mayo, lemon juice, relish, chopped pickled onions, and the dill. Use for dipping.

Fried calamari is delicious, crunchy, and chewy, and the tartness of the sauce contributes a lot of flavour.

“I love your new place! It’s so light and open ..” said Y/N twirling as she walked around Kai’s new apartment. “WOW , is that a king size bed ?!”
Y/N turned towards Kai with a smile on her face. Kai couldn’t help but smile back at her as she grabbed his hand and pulled him onto the bed with her.  She had had a long night , trying to figure out things. Klaus believed she could and she trusted him more than anyone. By the time the sun had come up in the morning she had come to realise that she does have some feelings for Kai too. Except she didn’t know if those were ‘more than friends’ feelings or just the connection they shared.
“Grow up. You are like a little kid.” laughed Kai. “Jumping around and laughing as if it’s Christmas morning.”
Y/N punched him playfully in the shoulder , their eyes meeting for a second and there it was - the butterflies in her stomach the second she gazed into his smoky blue eyes. How it was possible that both Kai and Kol could make her feel the same way ?
“Something wrong with that ?”
“No , not at all.” he smiled. “I love that about you. Hey do you want to go get some lunch later ? Or .. are you busy with Kol ?”
“Nope. I’m free as a bird.” she said , crossing her hands and holding her thumbs together moving her fingers in the air as if they were wings. Kai laughed , getting up from the bed and pulling her up after him.
“Fantastic ! Have you had breakfast yet ?” he asked with a hopeful expression on his face. “I can make waffles or pancakes -”
“Pancakes and bacon?” grinned Y/N and Kai laughed taking her hand and heading into the kitchen. They made breakfast together - Kai flipping the chocolate chip pancakes in the air and Y/N catching them directly in the plate. Afterwards she made the bacon just like how Kai liked it - golden brown and crispy.
“Where is the - ” she started to say just as he grabbed the maple syrup from the kitchen counter. Y/N couldn’t help but smile seeing Kai drizzle the maple syrup just how she liked it - mixed with the pancakes and the bacon. “You know me so well.”  she laughed making Kai laugh too.
Kai loved her laugh , her smile. Everything. Most of all he loved their alone time.  That was when he was happiest. He listened to her talk about how Hope kept insisting they go on walks early in the morning , ending them with a quick stop at the ice cream place near the compound. Y/N’s phone rang interrupting her. Kai could see the caller ID from across the table - Kol and a picture of Y/N and Kol together hugging. She clicked ignore and continued talking to Kai as if nothing had happened. Then her phone rang again.
“Why aren’t you answering your boyfriend’s calls ?” asked Kai curious , cutting his pancakes and taking a bite. “Might be important.”
Y/N took a sip from her coffee , smiling nervously before she spoke. The night before , Kol had tried to talk to her but she had ignored him telling him to only look for her when he is ready to apologise and actually mean it this time. It hadn’t been the only reason she avoided his calls. She didn’t know what to say to him , specially since she had figured out there was some truth in his words.
“Kol doesn’t like you , doesn’t want me to spend time with you and I don’t agree with what he says.” said Y/N , taking another bite of her pancakes.
“He said that ? That he doesn’t want you to see me?” he asked , unable to shake the hint of hurt in Y/N’s voice out of his mind.
“I know you don’t like him much either and that’s why you moved out -”
“That’s not why.” he lied , reaching across the table to wipe away some melted chocolate from her lips. How was he supposed to tell her that Kol had tried to compell him to leave earlier the same day Kai had left? Y/N had told him what Originals can do - compell other vampires , so he had started taking vervain. A little amounts every day just to prevent things like this from happening but after it had happened , he hadn’t had another choice but to go along with it. Kai had already been looking for a place of his own even before that , because it was getting harder for him to watch Y/N in Kol’s arms. “I’ve always wanted to build a life on my own. I didn’t get to have that back when I was a human and then afterwards… Klaus is awesome and his family is really nice and welcoming …well , most of them , but I knew I couldn’t stay there forever.”
Y/N gazed into his eyes and knew he was hiding something but pressing on the subject wouldn’t do her any good. It might backfire and she could lose him completely. Instead an idea formed in her head. Maybe she can get Kol to like Kai if they only got some time to spend together. There had to be something they have in common other than her.
“If I ask you to do something for me , will you do it ?”
“You know there isn’t a thing I wouldn’t do for you.” said Kai softly and Y/N felt a peck of guilt again. Last thing she wanted was to break his heart.
“Can you teach me your cupcake recipe ?” she asked suddenly changing her mind.
Kai grinned at her question. “Of course. Just say when and I’ll tell you my super secret recipe.”

Y/N spent the rest of the day at Elijah’s library , going through book after book. Being a vampire had its perks - she could read faster than before and she finished Wuthering Heights and started reading Mobby Dick. Her time with Kai had been perfect , though he seemed to tense every time Kol’s name came up. There had to be a way to get them to get along because she couldn’t exist without either of them anymore. Somehow both Kai and Kol had gotten under her skin and even if she tried hard , there was no way to shake them. When she got back to her room there had been flowers on her night stand and a note from Kol.

“The beauty of those flowers is nothing compared to you. - Kol”

Later that night she walked by Kol’s room , stopping at the door her hand hanging in the air about to knock when the door had opened. He looked surprised to see her there , a wide smile spread across his face. Y/N’s gaze dropped to the ground noticing he was wearing only his boxers. Her thoughts drifted to places seeing his bare chest and his chocolate eyes gleam in the dim light.
Kol ran his fingers through his hair.
“Hello darling. Wh-what are you doing here ?” he asked with a hopeful expression. Kol hoped she might want to spend the night with him talking and cuddling together on his bed. Ever since he had compelled Kai to move out , the thought had kept him awake at night , waiting for her to show up.
“I just … I wanted to say ‘thank you’ for the flowers.” she smiled nervously. “They are really beautiful. Who told you I like white roses best ? Was it your brother?”
“No. It was Hope actually.” he said taking her hand in his. “Y/N , I know what I said the other night hurt you and it was never my intention to do so. I love you and I’d never do anything to hurt you in any way and I hate myself for what I said.” said Kol. “I got jealous because you seem to want to be around him more than you want to be around me.”
Y/N sighed. “I am his best friend , the closest to family he’s got. Kai needs me and I can’t just … ditch him and start ignoring him completely just to be with you all the time.”
Kol brushed his palm against her cheek and smiled at her. Y/N was loyal in a way his family hadn’t been to him , it was one of the reasons he had fallen in love with her in the first place.
“Do you really mean it or are you just saying that because you miss me ?” she teased him. Kol laughed.
“I mean it , love.”
“So if I suggest you , me and Kai go on a dinner together - what will you say?” she asked hopefully.
“I’d say 'yes’ because I see how much it means to you.”
Y/N kissed him briefly on the lips and a smile spread across her face. “Great. I’ll call him and set things up… but first …” she trailed off leaning in towards him to kiss him deeply. Kol pulled her into his arms and Y/N’s mind started spinning having him this close , half naked barely an inch away from her.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too love.” said Kol. “Do you want to come in or … ?”
She smiled at him , feeling his hands slightly sliding under her shirt , his fingertips grazing her back sending jolts of electricity in her bloodstream. Her fingers tangled in his hair and she pulled him into another kiss. Kol’s hands found their way to her ass , scooping her up in his arms and he kicked the door closed. He carried her to the bed , gently letting her down on the mattress without breaking the kiss. Kol was drowning her with his kiss , his lips lighting up a fire everywhere they touched her skin. Kol’s body was pressed so firmly against hers , she could feel him getting hard against her. Y/N moaned into the kiss , rolling on top of him feeling his hands on her waist. He wanted her and she wanted him.
“W-wait.” she said rolling onto the bed next to him. “I .. We can’t … your family is in the h-house.”
Kol laughed under his breath. “It’s alright love. I don’t want to take things too fast.” he rested his hand on her lower stomach , lightly sliding under her shirt touching her bare skin.
Y/N’s breath got hitched in her throat wishing he’d move his hand a little further down. Instead Kol pulled her into his arms and not long after that fell asleep in each other’s arms.

Skyrim - Sweetroll

Happy New Year everyone! Here’s a request I’ve gotten from a few separate individuals, the renowned pastry of the Elder Scrolls series: the Sweetroll.

Unlike many of the Sweetroll recipes by other nerdy chefs I checked out, this procedure is essentially a popover made in a mini bundt pan instead of a cake or muffin. With a very hot oven temperature you’ll observe a dramatic rise in the batter that when inverted will yield this iconic shape with an almost hollow interior. Another happy coincidence in using a popover batter is that the necessary ingredients are exactly the same as those needed in game (although in different quantities) which I thought was very cool. So grab a salt pile and a jug of milk and we can get started on this Fus-Ro-Dahlicious pastry!

You can blame my friend Fox for the pun..
