going to make this book a thing

A Littles Halloween🎃

I want everyone to be able to enjoy the cold weather, fun costumes, cartoon specials, soft sweaters and sweat pants. So here are some things littles and caregivers can do while the weather gets colder, everything turns a soft orange🍁🍄🍁

🍄Try having a backpack full of some little things ready to go. It’s hard to be in your head space and not have anything with you.

🍁Ask your caregiver/mommy/daddy if they will get matching sweaters with you. Nothing makes me feel as small as having a big soft and comfy sweater that matches my daddy

🎃Go to a cheap store near you with your caregiver/mommy/daddy and get some cheap coloring books and crayons and color with each other. A coloring book I suggest is “let’s color together”

🍄Go on walks with your little/caregiver/daddy/mommy. I love going on walks with my daddy. It’s calming and fun.

🍁Caregivers/mommys/daddys try and surprise your littles with their favorite food/drink on random days. Tell your little that if he/she/they are good they will get a surprise

🎃Offer to go to a Halloween store with your little. Say that no matter what there is at the store you’ll protect them from the scary things. Trust me it makes littles feel very little

🍄Littles, offer to watch some of your caregivers/mommys/daddys favorite Halloween/scary movies and in return caregivers/mommys/daddys offer to watch your littles favorite cartoons with them

🍁Forehead kisses as essential in the cold seasons. Wrap your little up and give him/her/them a forehead kiss. It will make their cheeks flush.

🎃🍁Stay safe and happy this Halloween🎃

OMG Nakamura dating headcanons?? Please ^.^

  • Nakamura is literally the funnest girlfriend ever
    • She’ll never run out of dirty jokes to tell to her s/o, and they never find out if she gets them from somewhere or just makes them up
  • If anyone hurts her s/o, she’s just instantly wherever they are to give the person who offended them a piece of her mind
  • Always makes sure her s/o knows they’re amazing no matter what
  • She’s up for pretty much anything, she’d be totally into going scuba diving or chill about just relaxing and watching a movie
  • Loves eskimo kisses, honestly thinks they’re the cutest thing
    • Isn’t HUGE on PDA, so eskimo kisses and simply holding hands is all she’s willing to do in public
    • She’s huge on cuddling and affection in private though
  • Texts her s/o about books she’s reading, whether they like it or not. Having an s/o who’d just be happy to see her enthusiastic and excited is a must for her
  • Super fun to talk to, she can keep conversations going without it being awkward at all

I just finished draft 2 of my novel, and I'm so excited abut it!!! finally, the plot holes are filled and the characters make sense. How do you go about editing? Do you do it in stages- like you focus on character and plot the first run, then get down to line edits as you go through it more and more? Kinda like focusing in as you go?

Ah, editing. I need to make an updated editing process video. The thing is, my editing process changes a lot based on what the book needs so my draft by draft process isn’t always the same.

First, I do any developmental edits that I know I want to make. But sometimes, I don’t know what those edits are? That’s why I usually start by reading the book and cleaning it up, or in my case, fleshing it out since I’m an underwriter.

People will generally tell you to focus on developmental edits then line edit, but I really struggle with this because I a) need to read the book first to get scope and I’m gonna line edit if I’m reading, and b) like to work linearly. So, once I figure out all the shit I want to add/remove/change, I make what I call a revision map. Basically, it lists all my changes scene by scene. I go through the book in order, line editing, but also applying those changes. Helps me keep track of what I’m doing, kill two birds with one stone, and generally is just the system that works for me. It’s not a generally advised thing, though.

Fetlife makes me giggle

So, I deactivated my Fet account, months ago. I decided to look at it today, as I heard about some local literature events going on and wanted to read about them.

This one “Dominant” messaged me. I looked at his profile, which started with 3 sentences that were plagiarized, word for word, from Fifty Shades.

Even if you do “exercise control in all things,” etc., etc., maybe try to be a bit more convincing by using your own words, rather than from a book that had more typos than a 3rd grade book report.

talking to amanda and just seeing some meta posts in my drafts i realise i do a lot of theorising and ~explaining~ of things, specially regarding the show last season and this may or may not come off as apologising of the show mistakes but it’s really not??

when i take a scene or a dialogue and give it an explanation or some background to *justify* it i’m not doing to for the benefit of the show or to defend dumb and dumber. i do it for the benefit of my own writing because i just find more interesting to see how things could make sense and incorporate that into my writing than complaining, rejecting it altogether (when knowing the books inevitably will go more or less down the same route) and never attempting to write it better.

just putting this out there.

i wanna make a book of shadows to pass down to my children cause i want them to be witchy. how would you go about this/make one? i've never made one and idk what to put in and i get all panicky

Hey, that’s a great idea! First of all, you can put in anything you want. Not helpful, huh. Start with a notebook, any type. You can just buy one, you don’t need to make it fancy or artsy or whatever if that’s not your thing, but if it is, go ahead! Next, fill it with the basics. What you believe, what you practice, type of witch you are. Then put in spells, info on elements or correspondence or stuff you find helpful. You can then use it like a magical diary, write down the spells you do, what you’ve experienced, spirits you work with, basically anything magical! I hope this helps!

Endless list of Harry Potter fandom things that frustrate me: #1 of ?

Why didn’t Remus/Dumbledore/Minerva/SOMEONE believe Sirius was innocent???

Guys, guys, guys–JKR spent a whole book establishing how damning the evidence against Sirius was.

  • James and Lily didn’t tell anyone they had changed Secret-Keepers. There was literally no record that they had switched.
  • Sirius, on top of that, did not chose to act like an innocent man, going to kill the guy who really committed the betrayal instead of going to Dumbledore and explaining.
  • A whole street full of Muggles heard Peter say ‘Lily and James, Sirius HOW COULD YOU?!’ Before the street was blasted apart. There were eyewitnesses, guys. Witnesses are a very hard thing to make a case against.
  • Not to mention, literally no one knew Peter could change into a rat because he was an illegal Animagus. Sirius saying that he could turn into a rat would just make it look like he was trying to save his own ass by lying.
  • Then, when we met Peter in POA, he is EXCELLENT at looking like a victim. Before Sirius and Remus strip his excuses away, he fiercely maintains he is afraid of Sirius, going on and on about how he went into hiding because he put Voldemort’s most faithful follower into jail. He goes on this line for several pages until he can’t anymore, and when he can’t deny he wasn’t the spy anymore, he continues his victim act, saying, “I’ve never been brave like you guys! I had no hope of standing up to Voldemort!”
  • ^ Continuing my above point, people are forgetting that Peter is sneaky and a very very good liar. When Sirius corners him, he literally has seconds to decide that he’s going to yell that Sirius did it, cut off his finger, blow up the street, and disappear. He probably sent months developing his victim persona while working as a spy. I mean, for crying out loud, Lily says she’s worried about Peter in her letter Sirius! She’s not feeling suspicious of the traitor, she’s feeling pity for him!
  • “But what about Remus, huh, Allison? WHY WOULD HE BELIEVE SIRIUS WOULD DO IT???!!!!11” Uh, because Remus as of 1981 doesn’t trust Sirius because Sirius told his greatest secret to Snape, of all fucking people, for laughs. And in SWM, Sirius doesn’t seem to fully get how hard full moon is for Remus, saying that he wishes it was full moon so he could have something fun to do. Assuming Remus has resented Sirius privately since fifth year, all Peter has to do when he’s alone with Remus is just take those seeds of mistrust and run with them “did you see Sirius yesterday, Moony? What was he doing, didn’t that look shady, Remus, huh?”
  • “What about Dumbledore/Minerva/whoever?” Sirius tried to kill Snape when he was sixteen–he has his own history of being murder-friendly working against him. On top of that, like I’ve said, Peter has made everyone do a whooping job of loving him. Minerva burstings out crying over him in the Three Broomsticks. Sweet Merlin, even Sirius himself didn’t suspect him, even saying that he would die for him.
  • Times were so dark, you literally didn’t know who you could and could not trust–to a person like Minerva, the idea of Sirius becoming a Death Eater would be sad, but not impossible. “Terror everywhere… panic… confusion… That’s how it used to be.” –Sirius, GOF, chapter 27.
  • “What about a PENSIEVE, Allison???” As I’ve said this whole post, the evidence was so damning, people wouldn’t see a need to use things like Veritaserum or a Pensieve.
  • You also have a Trump-sque guy like Crouch in the Ministry who fights fire with fire, and this is honestly I think my most powerful point about why no one doubted what happened. Crouch told Aurors to kill instead of capture, he fought violence with violence. He is the guy who sent Sirius to jail without a trail, because he felt the evidence was so overwhelming, it would just make it look like he was being soft on a Death Eater. Crouch didn’t want to be thorough, as far as he was concerned, it was obvious Sirius had killed those Muggles, Peter, and the Potters, no need to draw it out. If he was so eager to throw his only kid into jail to keep his name spotless and advance his career, why would he stand up for Sirius???
  • No one also believes Sirius because Peter is really the only proof they have. As long as Peter is at liberty, avoids capture, etc, there is no real proof Sirius is innocent other than his word.
  • Then, when Sirius is out of jail, as Dumbledore himself says, Sirius does things that someone who is innocent really wouldn’t do–attacking the Fat Lady, breaking into Gryffindor Tower with a knife.

TLDR: No one believes Sirius is innocent both because the evidence against him is damning; Peter, for all people like to call him stupid, did an amazing job framing him; and because Sirius didn’t act like an innocent person.

Hey, Shaelin! I'm currently writing a contemporary novel, and I want my main boy and girl to be best friends, nothing more. I'm frustrated by the lack of platonic girl-boy relationships in YA, and I want to change that. As my novel deals with mental illness as well I didn't want to perpetuate the "falling in love cures all mental illness" trope that I know is so pervasive in YA. How do you think I should go about portraying this friendship in my book without romantic subtext slipping through?

I just love this. I’m a big campaigner for the ‘more friendships in YA!’ thing. Like please. Friendships. Yes.

Just make sure there’s no sexual or romantic tension between them. Don’t describe the character in a sensual or sexual way. I think it’s fairly easily avoided, but beta readers will be super helpful in pointing that out. Although, do keep in mind that some people have a tendency to just ship everything.

Back to school tips🌹

Alright y'all, with school season comin back, here are some prime hoe tips to get y'all ready to slay.

🌹1. Develop a skincare regimen at least once daily: wash, exfoliate*, mask*, toner, essential oils, moisturize.
*once weekly, to avoid overshocking your skin.
🌙2.Tea tree oil is bomb for acne and acne scars. Apply that shit.

🌹 Coconut oil and castor oil for brow/lash growth every night.

🌙Go through your closet, and toss clothes you don’t wear. Invest in more neutral colors and fits to configure a wider variety of cute ass outfits.

🌹 Don’t be afraid to thrift shop; places like TJ Maxx and The Goodwill have bomb ass brands for cheap.

🌙 Get your books/supplies ready a week before. Prepare yourself.

🌹 Have all of your test dates/assignment due dates in your phone before classes start. Make sure to request off days of work the nights before major assignments and exams if you can help it.

🌙 Things to keep in a bag in your locker: pads/tampons, an extra pair of panties, a spare change of clothes & shoes(in case of a wardrobe malfunction), hairbrush and hairtie, nail file & clippers, makeup remover wipes, concealer, masacara, gum, water bottle, extra pens, some spare cash, phone charger, and earbuds.

🌹 Keep a water bottle in ya bag at all times. A hoes gotta be hydrated.

🌙 Keep up with ya studies

🌹 A week before school starts, develop getting sleep schedule for school by going to bed half an hour earlier every night. This’ll make waking up earlier less of a hell, trust me.

🌙Have a go-to makeup look for school that takes 30 mins or less as a default, if you beat your face in the morning.

🌹 Replace coffee with tea for a more healthy caffeine fix before class.

🌙 Prepare yourself a decent breakfast before you go to bed, so you can easily grab and go in the morning. Breakfast kickstarts your metabolism and decreases cravings throughout the day, and generally boosts your mood and brain power.

🌹If you wear a uniform, make sure that shit is comfortable and actually fits you. Make sure nothing hangs off of you, cuts off circulation, itches, irritates, etc.

🌙Need a break from studying? Work out. Burn some calories, clear your mind, and stimulate your brain with some exercise. Swear to god this keeps my grades up and my body lookin fly.

🌹Invest in a hair mask (any pharmacy or makeup outlet will have them), or make one yourself. They make your hair super soft and shiny for flipping it when you walk past that group of girls who hate you lol

Thats all I can think of for now beauties, get good grades, I believe in all of y'all✨🌹

how to survive bad school days, from morning till night

my last year of high school starts rather soon, and i’ve had more than my fair share of days when i wake up wanting to cry. there aren’t many things you can do when obligations like school force you to get over it as soon as it starts, so here are some tips to make your day better.

1. dress opposite the way you feel. even though sweats might be super tempting, dress up. wear your favorite pair of jeans, or a dress, or your cutest sneakers, even. wear bright colors at least. sweatpants and such will just make you feel even more blah and unfocused throughout the day.

2. moisturize! this might seem like an odd idea, but moisturizing and going into school glowy and soft definitely helps me feel more comfortable and less ugh during the school day. it helps keep me in my home-y comfort zone, if that makes sense.

3. carry something from home. this can be a book (even if you don’t read it), a tube of chapstick, a big waterbottle, etc… i have even gone as far as wrapping myself in a small blanket and walking around like that for the day. if you like this option and don’t feel comfortable wearing it, fold it up and place it in your backpack, just so you know it’s there.

4. plan out your day. even if it’s just making a mental note, tell and remind yourself of the things your going to do and when. this will get rid of any unnecessary stress and pressure. if something unexpected comes up, this will also help you manage your time a little better.

5. eat and drink happy things! pick today to pack a lunch, no matter what your usual routine is. drink plenty of water throughout this day, and eat as many fruits and veggies as you can. fill a reusable water bottle with water, fruit (like lemon or strawberries), and chia seeds! it’s perfect to sip throughout the day for a reboot or just to boost your mood.

6. when you get home, bathe immediately! wash off the day’s dirt. drop everything as soon as you get home, and either jump in the shower or relax in a bath with your favorite soaps and scents and a book. give yourself a break before you have to get back to work.

7. don’t ignore your work. by work, i mean school work. if you’re having a bad day, don’t hesitate to take a break from talking to people or running (low-priority) errands. you don’t want to ignore schoolwork, though, because teachers aren’t the most lenient people in the world, and getting it done will take a lot off of your shoulders. pushing it away will only gain you more bad days.

8. go to bed. get sleep! you want to be refreshed and happy for the next day, even if it’s a weekend. there’s a good chance your bad day began because you didn’t get enough sleep, or because you were ripped out of bed. reward yourself with rest after a long day.

Taking textbook notes is a chore. It’s tedious and boring and sometimes challenging, but hopefully these tips will help you improve your skill and shorten the time it takes you to do textbook notes!

Give yourself time: Realistically, you can’t knock out 30 pages of notes in 20 minutes. Take your time with textbook notes so they’re a good studying tool in the future. The general rule is to take how many pages you have to do and multiply it by 5: that’s how many minutes it’ll take you to do the notes.

  • Also, divide you notes up into manageable chunks to increase your productivity. I am personally a huge fan of using pomodoro timers, and I adjust the intervals for however long I need to.

Skim before you start taking notes: If time is an issue, don’t read your 40 page in depth before even picking up a pen, but make sure you know what you’re reading about by skimming a bit ahead of your notes. Read over section titles, and look at charts, maps, or graphs. Writing and highlighting as you read the chapter for the first time isn’t effective because you don’t know if a sentence will be important or not, so make sure you’re reading a paragraph or section in advance before writing.

Use the format they give you in the book to help take your notes: In a lot of textbooks, there will be a mini outline before the chapter itself that shows all the headings and subheadings. Those will be your guidelines! I find this super helpful because long chapters can be daunting to go into without any structure. If you don’t have one of those, use the headings and subheadings provided for you. If you haven’t already been doing this, it will help you so much.

Read actively: It’s so easy to “read” a textbook without digesting any information, but that is the last thing you want to do. Not only does it make taking notes a million times harder, but you’ll be lost in class discussions because you didn’t understand the reading. To keep from passively reading, highlight, underline, star any important information in the book itself.

  • Have a color coding system for highlighting or underlining and write down a key somewhere (here’s a few that you can adjust for your needs: x,x)
  • Use sticky notes or tabs to mark any questions or important points to come back to

Summarize important information and paraphrase: When taking the actual notes, don’t copy down full sentences word for word. Not only does writing full sentences waste a lot of time, it’s not an effective way to learn. If you can paraphrase the information, then you understand it. It’s also easier to study notes which are in your own words instead of textbook academia writing.

Be selective: You shouldn’t be writing down every fact that comes up in your textbook. If a fact ties into the bigger topic and provides evidence, then it’s probably something to keep, but you don’t need every piece of supplemental information (but do make sure you always write down the vocab). Learn your teacher’s testing style to help you decide what to write down. Could this be on the quiz/test? If the answer is yes, make sure you write it down.

Learn to abbreviate: Just like writing full sentences, writing out full words will waste time. Implement some shortenings (make sure to use ones that you’ll understand later!) into your notes. Some common ones are: b/c=because, gov=government, w/o=without, and here’s a great list of a ton of examples of abbreviations and shortenings.

Answer margin and review questions: A lot of textbooks have margin questions on every page or so that sum up what’s really important about that information. Make sure not to skip them because they’re really helpful for understanding. Write them down and answer them clearly in your notes. Most textbooks also have review questions after the chapter that check for reading comprehension, so make sure to answer those because they’ll show you if you really understood the chapter.

Don’t skip over visual sources: Maps, diagrams, illustrations, charts, and any other visuals in textbooks are so helpful. If you’re a visual learner, these things will be so essential to you and how you understand what you’re reading. Charts, tables, and diagrams sometimes also summarize information, so if you’re a visual learner it might benefit you to copy those down instead of writing it out.

  • Add visuals if it’ll help you: As said above, copying down charts, tables, illustrations, or diagrams can be super helpful for visual learners. They’re clear and concise, so pay attention to them.

Write your notes in a way that’s effective and makes sense to you: Mindmaps, Cornell notes, or plain outline notes are all really good forms of notetaking. Find which one works best for you to understand them and which one is most effective for your class, and use it (stuff on mindmaps and cornell notes).

Combine your class and textbook notes: If you rewrite your class notes, add in information you think is relevant from your textbook notes. Mark anything both your book and teacher said were important–you don’t want to forget any of that. If you don’t rewrite class notes, then put stars next to anything repeated.

People actually expect me to believe that if you throw a group of only one sex inside a fucking maze with no memories, no social, cultural or religious discourses forced upon them, no outside influences of any kind for years and years with only each other to grow close too, trust, survive with, protect, build with, bond with etc.

After School Special, 4.13

Do you see this right here? Dean making sure Sam has his books and then saying he doesn’t need books, himself, because he won’t be around long enough anyway. That pattern-the one where Dean believes Sam’s life is worth more than his own–that’s being established right here. Dean obviously knows that books are necessary to be successful at school because he makes sure Sam has his. He can see that Sam is successful at school when Sam’s jumping around too, so Dean knows the jumping around thing isn’t what’s going to stop him from doing well. But Dean’s already learned from John that he’s a good soldier and nothing more. He’s already given up any hope for anything different for himself. Following what John’s been telling him his whole life–look out for Sammy. Never: look out for yourself.

all for the game posters  ⟢  the foxhole court.

Exy was a bastard sport, an evolved sort of lacrosse on a soccer-sized court with the violence of hockey, and Neil loved every part of it from its speed to its aggression. It was the one piece of his childhood he’d never been able to give up.

Dany is actually the rightful heir of the 7 kingdoms (in the books at least)

I was scrolling through Freefolk and I find a great post by EigengrauDildos. Basically he’s explaining how in the books, Jon is actually NOT the rightful heir of the 7 kingdoms. He is spot on. Now, D&D will probably brush that off but it makes for some good exchanges and conversations. Here what he had to say…

This has only occurred to me like half an hour ago.

As we know, the Westerosi crown follows agnatic primogeniture as its law of inheritance.

According to agnatic primogeniture, the order of succession is:

0) King
1) Eldest son of King
2) Eldest son of the son of the King, and, in succession, any other sons by order of birth
3) Second son of the King

In other words, the grandson comes before the uncle.

Here’s the snag nobody’s considering. Viserys, the uncle, was crowned King before the grandson, Jon/Aegon was born.

I’ll try to keep it the simplest possible.

The rightful king of the Seven Kingdoms was Aerys. At the moment of his death, he had only two kids: Rhaegar and Viserys (Daenerys was still a fetus in Rhaella’s belly).

Rhaegar was dad to Rhaenys and Aegon with Elia, but he annulled his marriage and possibly bastardised his first children. When he died, Lyanna was, unbeknownst to the world, pregnant with his kid (who had 50% chances of being a girl, mind you).

When news came of Rhaegar’s death, Viserys immediately became the heir to Aerys, the Crown Prince. When Aerys was stabbed by Jaime, Rhaella crowned Viserys King of the Seven Kingdoms.

This was absolutely rightful: when Aerys dies, Rhaegar is already dead, and Jon hasn’t been born yet - he literally doesn’t exist, and as a fetus, has 50% chances of being a girl anyway. At the moment of Aerys’ death, Viserys is the only possible heir to the Targaryen crown.

So, Viserys was king before Jon was born.

The timeline went like this: Battle of the Trident (Rhaegar dead) -> Aerys sends Rhaella and Viserys away to Dragonstone -> Aerys dies, Viserys becomes King -> Jon is born.

So, normally, the line of succession now would be:

Viserys -> Jon/Aegon, unless Viserys has a son, in which case the line would look like Viserys -> Viserys’ son -> Jon/Aegon.

Now, grown up, Viserys explicitly nominated Daenerys his heir. Which would mean that the rightful Targaryen heir is Daenerys and not Jon.

One could argue that Viserys didn’t know about Jon, but it’s really, really unlikely that he’d nominate as his heir, as the head of the Targaryen house, a kid raised as a Stark by one of the Usurper’s dogs, instead of his Targaryen born and raised sister, a sister he, even if in a twisted way, loved.

The fact is that Jon’s birth, even with a better claim as son of Rhaegar, wouldn’t dethrone Viserys. Kingship doesn’t get revoked because a baby with a better claim comes along. And if Viserys elected Dany as his heir, that’s a King’s word - it’s law.

To be honest I don’t think we’ll get any treatment of this in the show. The show seems to be going rather mindlessly in the “Jon’s the rightful heir” route, unless all of this gets brought out next season. Which would make for some compelling political drama.

I’m sure though some discussion of this will get brought up in the books.

As a book fan, I feel a bit ashamed cause I completely forgot thi important element about the books. Element that could change a lot of things in the grand scheme of things.
