going to attempt homework

anonymous asked:

Do you have any tips on how to raise your grade if you're failing a class?

Hi! Here are a few things to try:

  • be active in the classes - try to forget that you’re struggling with the class and make it your goal to focus and learn. Always go to class, attempt the homework (even if it is hard, at least you have tried!), take down the best notes you can.
  • find a note-taking method that is effective - everyone is different so figure out what kind style works for you. Mine is here - it is really simple and will probably be quite easy to follow for anyone.
  • review regularly - information goes in and out of you. You can’t be expected to remember every single thing from class. Here is a graphic on the curve of forgetting. As you can see with the blue line, most of what you learn is forgotten if you don’t review it. But what the other lines show is how is can be retained if you review consistently. Make an effort to review your notes after class, after a day, after a week, and after a month. If you find rewriting notes helps you, try that!
  • talk with your teachers - most teachers are willing to help you more than it may seem. If you show an interest they will generally give more time to help you when you need it. Explain your circumstances and say you’d like to do as best as you can so if you’ve got any pointers/tips/extra worksheets you can do, you’d love that. When you get an assessment and have maybe lost a few marks, make an effort to ask why and how you can improve!
  • make a study group - friends can make studying fun (with a little bit of distraction mixed in)! Having a study group means you can regularly meet up for a study session, share notes, debate ideas, get answers to things you might not understand in a very non-judging and easy-to-understand environment.
  • don’t avoid getting help - like I’ve mention in the two points above people are available to help you when you’re struggling. Don’t let yourself be convinced you’re in it alone. When you are doing some work and find it hard, make a note about what it is and what you don’t get. Try chatting with or emailing your teacher/friends and see if they can help you. It is better to ask for help than just forget about it and panic if it comes up in a test!
  • stay positive - try to remain positive when you’re thinking about the subject. Might be easier said than done, but if you’re constantly in a terrible mood you’re just making it worse for yourself. Find ways to make studying fun like with friends, watching explanatory videos on YouTube, listening to your favourite music to get you in a better mood! x
  • reward yourself - if you completed everything you need to for that subject, give yourself some time for fun!! Don’t feel guilty about having a break or relaxing. If you’ve done some hard work, you deserve it!

Hope that helps xx

Hey! Ive failed this subject in the past, but I have to pass it this year. The only problem is, I plan to study this subject - but when the time comes Im just so filled with dred that I dont even approach it, put it off and the feel very guilty and disgusted at myself. Please help :(

Hi! This is the worse kind of studying panic, isn’t it!? :-( Planning and actually executing your study time are two very different things. How I would look at it is, you’ve had a practice run already. You know the kind of things that will be taught, the types of assessments you’ve given or the exam systems that they use. You probably have an idea of how to do parts of the course but just need to refine your skills. You have the bonus that not everything will be brand new to you! Use the need to pass as your motivation. Or even better set a goal of achieving a certain grade and work to get there. Can you imagine how you will feel at the end of the year when it says you’ve passed and exceeded your own expectations!? You’ll know all the hard work was worth it!! Here are a couple of things that might help you as well:

  • organise all your past work - since you’ve already done the subject, you’ll have notes/worksheets/etc. Go through and order them. Put them somewhere you can find easily! That will make them easy to review when you’re going over the content.
  • be active in the classes - try to forget that you’ve previous struggled with the class and make it your goal to focus and learn.
When you get an assessment and have maybe lost a few marks, make an effort to ask why and how you can improve!
  • make a study group - friends can make studying fun (with a little bit of distraction mixed in)! • stay positive - try not to worry about your previous time in the subject, you’ve grown since then and know that it is important to study! Whilst you might feel doubt and dread looming over you, push it off and start doing something. Even if you do one task or dedicated 30 minutes of time to studying, you’re making progress! Just repeat until this are done!
  • reward yourself - if you completed everything you need to for that subject, give yourself some time for fun!! Don’t feel guilty about having a break or relaxing. If you’ve done some hard work, you deserve it!

Hope that helps. Best of luck xx

What are your headcanons about Simon in high school? (Love you and your blog btw)

A lot of them will be covered in my saphael high school AU but basically:

  • He works super super super hard because his mum considers him getting anything less than As as a fail
  • Which also means he refuses to miss school for anything, he goes in even when he’s sick
  • He also tries to do too much at once. He’ll take too many classes, too many extracurricular activities, he’ll always go for the most difficult options with his homework assignments in an attempt to get higher grades
  • He spends pretty much most of his life just worrying about school
  • Even when Clary, Eric, Kirk or Matt come to see him, he’ll probably still do his homework while they’re there
  • The only time he’d really relax and forget about school for a while is during band practice
  • But he likes to help other people with their homework too. If he finds out Clary is struggling with something he’ll do everything he can to help her. She tries not to tell him when that happens though because she knows he’s trying to deal with too much at once already
  • Simon seems to be very logic-brained so I think he’d probably be best at subjects with definitive answers, like maths and science, while he’d find things like English much more difficult
  • I think he’d be pretty good at history. No particular reason
  • Gym is a big huge nono for Simon. Not good at that shit. He’s always picked last for teams on everything
  • I actually don’t think he’d get bullied all that much because he wouldn’t really speak to anyone much in school. Most of the people in his class would probably only notice him if he wasn’t there
  • Basically poor baby is just one huge ball of stress and anxiety determinedly trying to please his mum and get grades that will get him into a good college

Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ): Give students with long term chronic illnesses special considerations

I have a chronic illness which I have had whilst taking my GCSEs and my A-levels, yet when it comes to taking my exams we only get minor considerations.  We can  ·         have extra time (normally 25%) ·         have breaks throughout the exam (which doesn’t come from your time) ·         take the exam in isolation ·         take the exam at home ·         have someone write for us ·         use a computer to type instead of write ·         have longer to complete our coursework The JCQ states that ‘Candidates will NOT be eligible for special consideration if preparation for or performance in the examination is affected by: 2.3.1 long term illness or other difficulties during the course affecting revision time, unless the illness or circumstances manifest themselves at the time of the assessment.’ A lot of students are affected by brain fog, where symptoms include ·         Poor short term memory ·         Difficulty learning new things ·         Poor mental stamina and concentration – there may be difficulty reading a book or following a film story or following a line of argument ·         Difficulty finding the right word ·         Thinking one word, but saying another All of these not only affect our ability to take the exam, but it is extremely difficult for us to be able to learn the syllabus, despite being in the lessons, revising at home and going to study sessions.  Even though we look healthy we are still extremely sick, we have invisible illnesses, for example, I have Myalgic-Encephalomyletisis, the main symptoms are: 1.    Utter exhaustion, often to the point of collapse, totally different from ‘normal’ tiredness, and at its worst, you might look pale. 2.    You may suddenly need to sit or lie down very quickly wherever you are. 3.    People experience “post-exertional malaise”, which is fatigue that is delayed – often by one or two days - after too much activity. 4.    Pain, anywhere in the body but particularly headaches, and intense muscle and joint pain without redness or swelling, especially in the leg, which iss often difficult to relieve with standard painkillers. 5.    Cognitive impairment, brain fog where, you find it hard to remember things,  6.    it’s easy to get confused or mentally tired - your brain seems to run out of steam, it’s hard to concentrate, and you get stuck on words or working things out and you find it hard to plan or think ahead. 7.    You may feel too hot or too cold. 8.    A recurring sore throat is particularly common in children. 9.    You might get dizzy (especially when getting up from sitting or lying down). 10. You might find things are too bright or too loud for you. 11. You could also have sleep problems, feel sick, lose your appetite, find that your stomach and gut is playing up; you may feel moody, and experience panic or anxiousness; and you might find that you’re now sensitive to certain foods, medication, alcohol and chemicals. A lot of us experience the majority of these symptoms everyday, but we still go to class, even when we end up going home, we revise and attempt homework when we don’t understand the topic because of brain fog, we walk around school in pain, yet we’re expected to get the same results as are able bodied peers.  I’m not asking for JQC to just hand us grade A’s, I’m asking them to consider what we’re going through on a daily basis, I’m asking them to realise that if someone with a temporary illness is receiving 3% for a flare up of a congenital illness, or 2% for an illness at the time of assessment, then asking for a special consideration for someone who hasn’t been able to take in the syllabus during, class, revision or recall it in their exam through no fault of their own surely isn’t asking for too much.

Hey guys, please can you sign my petition, even if you don’t live in the UK, it will only take you a few minutes. If you don’t want to read the big block of text, it’s to help students get special considerations in exams.

I could not ask for more- Isaac Lahey imagine for I-am-alpha-now 's contest!

I Could Not Ask For More- Isaac Lahey imagine

“ISAAC! Please, please don’t go with him, please! I’ll do anything, Isaac, but you can’t go with him. He-he’s bad news Isaac, please. He’s only going to get you into trouble. I’m begging you, don’t do this.”

You pleaded with your best friend, you were about to get on your knees and beg like the dog that dark, troublesome man was going to turn your best friend into. You’ve seen how this so called ‘gift’ could ruin a person. When they said ‘The bite either turns you or kills you’ they were wrong. The bite either kills you, or sends your life into turmoil. You saw how it changed Scott, your  brothers best friend. You couldn’t stand beside and watch the man you loves difficult life, get even worse.

Isaac looked at you, and the man in the leather jacket behind him, and back at you. You could see it in his eyes before he even said it. You could see the conflict in his eyes. You knew. You knew what he was going to choose, but you had to try.

“I- I don’t have any other choice, Y/N. I have to. He’s the only one who can help me now.”

Your eyes filled with tears as you shook your head no.

“That’s not true, Isaac! Please. I’ll do anything. I’d die for you, Isaac. If you won’t do this for you, do it for me. I- I love you Isaac. And I can’t watch you turn into one of those things.”

You felt sick to your stomach, you felt like you were about to vomit any second. You couldn’t even begin to imagine what your life would be like without him. Not having Isaac in your life would be like trying to live without lungs. With Isaac around, you could breathe. He made everything easier, and you knew you couldn’t do this without him.

He sighed and wrapped his arms around you in a tight embrace. You sighed. You did it. He wasn’t going to go through with it. He kissed your forehead and looked into your eyes.

“I love you, Y/N. I love you so much, and that’s why I have to go with him. Things will be better, I promise. Give me time, and I’ll be back to you in no time. I’ll be better, stronger. I can protect you. Just wait for me.”

Your heart stopped. You actually believed for a second that he was going to listen to you. You couldn’t help it as the tears that welled up in your eyes started to cascade down your face like a waterfall. And it didn’t stop even after he left you standing alone in the eery cemetery that night. He did the one thing he promised he would never do; leave. And that was something you could never forget, for what happened that night, haunted you in nightmares.

That was the last time Isaac Lahey talked to you. The man you loved who supposedly loved you back ignored you ever since he had been bit. It killed you to walk past him in the hall or be forced to sit next to him in class because Mr.Harris hated you as much as he hated Stiles, that being because you were his sister, and he couldn’t stand either of you. It was clear to everyone at school that you and Isaac were the closest of friends, so when you two stopped being attached at the hip, people took notice. One of those people being Mr. Harris, so of course he had to pair the two of you up as partners, just to watch you suffer. He was disturbed, really. So when the day came that you and Isaac had to work on a project together, outside of class, you were nervous as all hell. Being that you and Stiles were close, you of course had gotten wrapped up in all of the werewolf problems. You didn’t know how in control he was. It was like he was a completely different person. He wasn’t your Isaac anymore. You had no idea who this newly bitten, arrogant wolf was. And you weren’t sure you wanted to know.

You were at your locker at the end of the day, gathering the last of your books. You were going to attempt to get some homework done while ‘watching’ lacrosse practice, waiting for your brother to bring you home. You shut your locker and jumped about ten feet in shock when you saw the curly haired wolf leaning with a smirk against the lockers next to yours.

“Christ Lahey! If you’re going to be doing that, at least make some kind of warning sound.”

You went to turn when he grabbed ahold of your arm.

“Hey, we gotta start that project eventually. Be at Derek’s after practice and we can talk.”

You rolled your eyes. He wasn’t the one to be giving commands right now.

“ A: There is no way in hell I’m going to Dereks with you. B: Don’t you dare tell me what to do or I’ll shove wolfsbane down your throat.”

You turned and attempted to walk away when Isaac moved in front of your path.

“Woah, what’s with the hostility? Last I checked we were best friends babe.”

That one sentence was just enough to push you over the edge. You lost it.

“Last time I checked babe, best friends don’t ignore each other for months on end. Best friends don’t turn to a man who is nothing but trouble and will only get you killed in the end. And last time I checked, best friends don’t leave you when you need them the most. I was there every single time and more when you needed me, Isaac. I was the one who gave you a place to stay when your asshole of a father was locking you in a freezer. I was the one who consoled you through every nightmare, who helped you after your mother and brother passed away. Yet you still went with Derek that night. You chose him over me Issac. And to top it off you just left me in the dust, and that’s not a best friend.”

The second you started your rant, you could see the hurt in Isaac’s eyes. But right now, you didn’t care. He wasn’t the one who got to be hurt in this situation. You did everything in your power to help him, and he left you. He promised he would never leave you. But when he broke that promise and left anyway, he promised he would come back to you,and he never did. And with that you practically ran out to the lacrosse field, wiping the tears on your way.

You walked straight past Stiles and Scott, who immediately were throwing questions your way when they saw you crying. You went to the top of the bleachers and tried to distract yourself from your feelings with homework. And distracted you were until you heard the collision of two lacrosse players, and a scream of pain.

You looked up to see Scott looking up with wide eyes, hoping you didn’t hear what happened. You saw Isaac laying on the ground, holding onto his knee, which seemed to be very out of place. And then you did something you wished you hadn’t. You ran down onto the field and before you knew it, you were kneeling in front of Isaac. You knew he would heal, but it would take a little longer now, since Scott was an alpha, and he was the one who dislocated Isaac’s knee.

“Oh, what the hell McCall?!” Coach yelled as he saw Isaac’s knee.

“Uh. Sorry coach?”

Unsurprisingly, Scott didn’t look sorry at all. He was every bit as protective of you as Stiles was, regardless if you were only months younger than them and in the same grade. They’d always be like that, but you couldn’t complain.

“Uh, female Stilinski, help Lahey back into the locker room.” Coach said after he popped Isaac’s knee back into place. You were about to tell him no when he interrupted you,

“Don’t you give me grief! I thought you were the better behaved Stilinski? You know what, no. Go!”

You rolled your eyes and threw an arm under Isaac’s shoulder and helped him walk into the locker room. The second you reached it you dropped him and started to walk out.

“Y/N! Please. Just. Wait, give me a second. I need to talk to you.”

“Isaac, I’ve given you months to try and talk, and you acted as if I didn’t exist. Why should I bother giving you a second of my time now?”

You were about to spin on your heel to walk out again when your eyes caught sight of those damned puppy dog eyes of his.

“Please, let me say what I need to, and after that, if you still want nothing to do with me, I’ll leave you alone.” He was about to start begging like a dog, and you didn’t want to see that, so you took a seat next to him on the bench.

“Y/N, Derek promised me he would get me away from my Dad and I needed to get out desperately. He promised me I would become stronger, faster, almost invincible. I needed to be able to protect you. And with the bite, I’d be able to do that. And I know you would have been able to get me away from my Dad, and if you couldn’t you’d die trying. You knew how he was, and I couldn’t let you get hurt and mixed up in my crap more you by being on my dads bad side.”

He took a second to look away and down at his now healing knee, trying to keep a level head, and reminding himself you were sitting next to him. His father ruined so many things for him, he wouldn’t let him continue to do so. Not now and not with you. He jumped up and started pacing before you while continuing.

“You were right about Derek, but he isn’t as bad as you think. But that’s an argument for a different time. After I was bitten, I never intended to break our promise and leave you, but Derek knew how much you meant to me, so he made me stay away from you until I could control myself. He knew it would destroy me if I slipped up and hurt you by accident. I needed to find an anchor, something to keep me level, something that would be able to keep me human before I could come back to you.”

This was when he stopped pacing, thankfully, because it was really putting you on edge. He kneeled down in front of you, gently tilting your face to look him in the eye, he needed you to see what he was feeling. He was never good with words, and he was desperate. He couldn’t lose you, not now, not ever. With his hands gently sitting next yours on your lap, he continued.

“ It wasn’t until recently I was able to figure that anchor out. I knew that if I was near you, I could lose control at any point, and I’d rather die than hurt you. I worked my ass off to find my anchor, and I figured it out.”

He paused, looking down at his hand that was so close to yours, and decided to take some sort of action. He took your hands in his and looked deep into your eyes. He was pouring out his heart to you. He needed you to see every emotion he was putting out there for you.

“What was your anchor then?”

He looked up at you smiling with tears welled up in his ocean blue eyes.

“You. I love you, Y/N. I always have. My feelings for you kept me anchored, because without you, the thought of you, to keep me leveled, I’d become a monster. And I could never do that to you. I need you. Please. Just, let me back in.”

It was then you could see every emotion in his eyes. You could see how scared he was, scared of rejection, and terrified you wouldn’t take him back in. He didn’t have a backup plan incase you wanted nothing to do with him. He needed you. But more importantly, you saw the love in he held in his eyes for you. You were wrong all this time. Looking at him now, he was still your Isaac. And that was enough for you.

At this point you had tears in your eyes. The man you loved since you were a kid, who broke you heart over the past few months, loves you back, and did all of this to protect you. You couldn’t keep it in anymore. You couldn’t hold it in anymore, you jumped into his arms with yours around his neck, holding him closely and never intending to let go. The two of you quickly lost balance and fell to the floor of the foul smelling locker room. You both started laughing as he sat up, holding you in his lap. He smiled up at you and did the one thing you had dreamed of for years, kissed you.

“Does this mean I’m forgiven?” He asked as he pulled away.

You leaned back a bit, forging a face of thought before answering,

“Wellll, I don’t know. I might need a bit more convincing.” You looked at him with a smirk.

He leaned up and delicately kissed you once again.

“And now?”

“You’re getting closer.”

He shook his head and laughed at you. He went to kiss you one more time when-

“Hey Stiles! Think you might wanna take a look at this.”

The two of you looked up to see Scott leaning against some lockers in front of you smirking, when Stiles came barreling in, quite clumsily per usual, and threw his arms in the air.

“OH COME ON, Y/N! DOES IT HAVE TO BE HIM? WHY NOT DANNY?! HES A NICE BOY.”

You, Isaac, and Scott burst into laughter at Stiles’ reaction, ignoring him as he continued to ramble on about God knows what. This was what you had been craving for a long time now. Everything, right here and now, was everything you wanted. And you couldn’t ask for more.

A/N: And there it is! Whoever reads this, please give me some feedback! Hope you enjoy! And wish me luck in the contest!

Nino waved to Marinette when he saw her rush through the door to the potions classroom. She waved back and started to make her way over to where he was sitting, weaving in between the desks as she went.

“Hey girl,” he said when she sat down with a huff. “How’s it goin’?”

“Good! I almost didn’t make it on time, but I’m here!” she said, trying to catch her breath.

“Isn’t your common room, like, down the hall?” Nino asked. “It shouldn’t take you that long to get here.”

“Well I woke up 5 minutes ago,” she shrugged, “and no, my common room is actually on the other side of the dungeons, so it is possible for me to be late. Plus I had to eat breakfast, so yeah.”

“Ah,” he said with a nod.

Day 19: School Days: Opposites Attract.

The dynamic of their relationship seemed off to most people. He was Uchiha Sasuke and she was Hyuuga Hinata. They were total opposites in every way.

Still… Their relationship was baffling but subtle. Very subtle.

The way he would lean back in his chair and rest his seemingly trespassing elbows on her desk. Hinata would smile, a small smile. It was his way of greeting her.

Or maybe it was because he would wait until she finished packing to carry her heavy bag. They bickered through playful glaring. Hinata took his lighter bag in the end.

“Hyuuga,” he would called as she walked towards their usual lunch table. He would steal her tomatoes while saying, “You need to eat more vegetables.”

Hinata took his cookie and shrugged with a growing grin. The lack of sweets has made her friend quite bitter.

They had a system going. Effortless. Sasuke would wait at her locker, she would attempt to do homework while he was at basketball practice. Hinata would end up cheering for him and tomorrow’s assignment would scatter on the bleachers.

Afterwards, they would walk home until it was time to part ways.

That’s where things got complicated. When it was time to leave the other, one would initiate a farewell hug. It was a longing hug. His chin rested on her head and her ear pressed to his heart.

The moment they removed themselves, opal and onyx eyes said three unspoken words. There was a weak smile, the sound of a throat clearing. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Hinata nodded and forced herself to walk away. They were opposite in every way. He was Uchiha Sasuke and she was Hyuuga Hinata. The dynamic of their relationship seemed off to most people.

Even themselves.

Calum:

“Thanks for offering to clean the attic, sweetie,” Your mum said, quickly kissing your cheek as she let both you and Calum into the house.

“I already told you, mum, it’s not that big of a deal,” You shrug.

She turns to Calum, “And thank you too, Calum.”

“No problem, Ms. [Y/l/n].”

You lead Calum to the open attic in the guest room, and the moment you set foot in the attic he starts to complain.

“Why did I agree to this again?”

“Because some of this stuff in here is yours too,” You inform.

He raises an eyebrow, “Like what?”

You quickly scan the dusty area and your eyes land on an old pair of shoes you just barely recognized resting in the corner.

“Like those,” You point out. “Or this,” You say, bending down to pick up a slightly deflated football.

You quickly drop it the moment you realize a big black spider crawling over its dirty interior. Out of instinct, you toss it as far away from you as you can which results in it knocking down several things from an old book shelf.

“Wimp,” Calum mutters jokingly before walking over to pick up some of the stuff. You had distracted yourself by drawing patterns with dust on some of your mum’s boxes until Calum called for you.

“Hey, [y/n], what’s this?” He asks, walking over to you with thick book in his hands.

“I don’t know, Calum,” You start sarcastically, “But the big, pink, sparkly letters that read ‘Photo Album’ really leave me wondering.”

He rolls his eyes, opening the thick book in his hands. “Aw!” He gushes, “Look at little, baby [Y/n].”

“Shut up, Calum.”

He flips the page. “Look at this one!” He exclaims. His finger is pointed towards an embarrising photo of you being potty trained.

“That’s it.” You snatch the photo away from his hands and flip a few pages towards the back.

"Look at this,” You giggle, showing him an picture of him with his two front teeth missing. “No, no, this one is the best.” You point to the one below of Calum hiding behind his mum’s legs from a harmless-looking clown.

He looks onto the next page, examining a picture that your mum had taken of the two of you years and years ago.

"I remember this,” He smiles.

“Yeah, me too. This was your ‘adorably sweet’ phase.”

“It wasn’t a phase!” He defends.

You roll your eyes. “I look so tiny compared to you.”

“Well you are younger than me,” He smirks.

“By a year, Calum, only a year.”

He shrugs, taking the book from your hands and setting it on a cluttered box before wrapping his arms around you. “I loved you then, love you still—”

You smile cheesily, “Always have, always will.”

Luke:

“[Y/n],” Luke sing-songs as he bounds down the stairs of your home. He eagerly plops onto the love-seat of your home, some sort of paper in his hands.

Assuming he’s only going to make an attempt to distract from your homework again, you groan. “What now, Luke? This is the—what— fourth time you’ve come pestering me about your boredom.”

“It’s something important this time, I promise.”

“What is it?”

He pats the cushion next to him. You sighed, pushing the chair back so you could stand up and walk over to him. The moment you sat down he pulled you into his lap.

“Alright, guess what?”

“What?” You raised an eyebrow.

“I was talking to my mum and she said she found some old pictures of us—”

“Oh, God.”

“No, no it gets better. I wanted her to send me some so she did!” Luke sticks a small stack up photos in front of your face, the first one being a very old picture of you two taking a bath together.

“That’s so cute,” You marvel.

The two of you spend the next thirty minutes admiring several old baby photos of you two. Some you didn’t even remember having taken and others you wished you hadn’t taken.

“Wow, I forgot how cute of a baby I was,” You smirk as you turn to look at him.

He rolls his eyes, allowing them to look over to the coffee table where one last picture lay.

“We forgot one.” You reach over to grab it and almost instantly smile as you recognize it. “I remember this,” You giggle.

Luke takes the picture from your hands, “Oh yeah, our parents all went out, so they left me, you, Ben, and Jack with that awful babysitter.”

“She completely forgot about us. She wouldn’t even read me a bedtime story.”

“So I did it for you,” He smiles.

“Or at least you tried to. You know, at three years old it was more about the pictures than the story itself.”

“Whatever,” He rolls his eyes, “I’m just glad Ben took the picture.”
