going through some old art and

faironstern  asked:

i have seen a lot of people reposting your work they always say it's yours but i can't find half of the things they do, do you have any other site where you post everything? i tried going through hasthags but i can't find half of it :(

Okay. Well.

  • I post pretty much everything here on tumblr (LINK).
  • I do post sketches and works in progress on my twitter (LINK).
  • And I have some art that I’ve done for my comic over on plusKJ (LINK)

It’s possible that what you are seeing is artwork that people have scanned from one of my books, in which case I may not have it posted online. It is also possible that what you are seeing is artwork so old that I’ve since cleaned it out of my very full tumblr. But I haven’t done a cleaning like that in a long time so this is pretty unlikely. But yes, this tumblr and my twitter are the best places to find all of my work. I try to keep things all in one place because I want them easily found.

Now, lemme sidetrack.

When people repost work that I’ve been paid to do, it doesn’t bug me much. I’ve been paid for it and I consider that artwork to be out there- not just mine. I don’t mind (well I mind, but I’m resigned) when people repost these things as long as they credit me (and a link back to me would be best!) The bad part about this is that I don’t get to see how popular the images are. I don’t know what people like. When things are reposted, I don’t get to see the audience’s reaction. If it gets barely any notes on my own blog, I assume it was received badly and I won’t draw it again, or much. I’ll move on and draw things that I perceive people are more interested in seeing. So keep that in mind, people, when you repost my work.

Every once and awhile I get a message like this and it’s pretty depressing. People say things like “I finally found you! I’ve seen your art all over and only just now found out who you are!”. It’s sad. It means people throw my art all around and never credit me. I want people to find me, I want to share my work with you. It delights me! Please help people find me by crediting me and linking back to my original post!!

Was flipping through my sketchbook when I found some months old mikayuu that I didn’t like for whatever reason, but I fell right back in love with their stupid happy smiles–so here take them and go dnviebvkskv

I think I could watch dust forever.

so I stayed at this cabin earlier this summer. one day I woke up at 5a.m. and saw the incredible light coming through the front door. I couldn’t just let it go and fall asleep again. I set my camera up, shook some old pillows and caught this beautiful second before the wind blew all of this out

The Art of Kiyohiko Azuma

Kiyohiko Azuma is a manga artist perhaps best known for his series Yotsuba&! about the naïve 5-year old Yotsuba who humorously stumbles her way through life. Stylistically, Yotsuba is always drawn more cartoonishly while her surroundings take on a different, more realistic look. And the astounding level of detail that can go in to some of Azuma’s backgrounds can render them as standalone works of art.

Some digital sketches and design concepts for my SU fan fusions (+Some chibi designs). As you can tell, some of these sketches are reeeally old. Hopefully this gives some insight as to how I go about designing things.

I’ve already posted some of Unakite’s concepts, I’d say that she went through the most drastic changes out of all of them. Links to the finished designs:

Rainbow Quartz ~ Milky Quartz ~ Cherry Quartz ~ Spectrolite ~ Spirit Quartz

Some thoughts on young Harold

I think some people are forgetting Harry is a closeted, very likely confused, young person navigating his own identity and his place in the music industry, and he hasn’t lived a day as a normal kid since he was sixteen years old. Even without PR strategists and their ham-fisted promo and transparent lies, he’s going to fuck up. He’s going to contradict himself. He’s going to do things which don’t sync up with the image we have of him because we don’t actually know him. He’s going to make mistakes, and he should make mistakes, because he’s twenty three years old. I look at some of the art I made at a 23 year old and it’s an absolute mess of poorly articulated ideas and cross-firing impulses and half of them are ripped off of the artists I loved because I hadn’t found myself yet. That was three years ago and I’m still struggling to find myself, because I, too, am a confused young person trying to create art in a world that’s hostile and homophobic. And that’s me, where there are no cameras and no privacy invasion and no closet and no million dollar brand. Harry is under an enormous amount of pressure from the people he’s working for AND the general public, AND US, the fans who love him, sure, but are also tense and poised and constantly ready to attack and drag and place blame and analyze.

It’s ok to analyze, in fact I think it’s necessary to be critical and conscious of all the media we consume? But at the same time…people really need to look at the big picture and keep everything in perspective. Harry probably doesn’t know who he is yet to some degree, as a person and as a solo artist, and he’s been media trained since he was a kid, and now that he has a slightly longer leash, he’s going to be struggling to reconcile all that. So he’s drawing from a variety of influences and musical traditions, some of which are archaic or dated or fucked up, and attempting to forge an identity and still sell records and we’re ALL WATCHING! What an enormous challenge! Even if his team was promoting everything perfectly, there would still be cracks running through this mess. Give him a break. Remember how old he is, and what kind of world we live in.

I do think there is fandom manipulation happening, I do think there are strings being pulled and I think some of those string pullers are tone deaf old white men. Yes. But frankly, that’s capitalism, which sucks but is the very real framework which art is manufactured within. We’re not going to be able to escape that anytime soon, it’s just the way things are. Personally, I’m excited to continue to watch Harry grow and find himself and figure out what he wants to do and what he wants to say within the constraints of capitalism/the industry.

I just rediscovered my developmental artwork for one of my uni projects, in which I collaborated with @ts-porter to illustrate their short story about steampunk lesbians. Most of the early art was getting a feel of the setting.

yo man, you dont have to reply to this, but i see whats been happening to you, and its really worrying to see a 14 yr old get fucked up with all this shit. my suggestion if you want, go make another blog. tell only your closet friends, and leave this one. seeing you like this really makes me want to do something, you deserve none of this bs. i hope you can get through this. goodluck sa school btw. -Dante

i’ve actually been thinking on doing that for the past few months. i’m just scared that some of those toxic people(be it following me or not) find me again. or that my art will be reposted/traced/sold w/o permission/etc. i don’t know what will happen if and when i do that and it scares me and that’s why i haven’t done it yet.
