going back and rereading all of these

this has got to be one of the MOST well thought out lines in acomaf. take a look at this line. in this scene, all hell broke loose and feyre was pretending to be under rhys’s “spell”. obviously tamlin thought feyre was referring to rhys in this line. but if you reread it, you realize that she’s actually saying it to the inner circle too— telling them that she doesn’t wanna go back to tamlin and the spring court. she is saying it to both tamlin and the inner circle. god, sarah j maas is bloody brilliant.

So the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is coming up and I thought it might be fun to do a group reread!

This is for anyone to get involved in, no matter your house, so hopefully we can all go back and relive the magic together

I’m aware that people have different commitments and a lot of people still have exams so, by popular consensus, we’re going to be taking it slow so there’s no pressure to read particularly fast. We’re going to be reading one chapter a day on weekdays, and two chapters a day on weekends which hopefully is a pace everyone will be able to keep up with

This means the reread will last just under two weeks, so we will be starting on the 14th of June, meaning we’ll finish on June 26th, the actual 20th anniversary

It’s up to you how much you want to get involved and how to document your own rereading journey, but I’ll be posting my own thoughts on each chapter on this blog; things I’d forgotten, things I never picked up on before, favourite quotes and moments, how my thoughts on characters have changed, that kind of stuff

I’ll also be posing a discussion question based on the chapter so feel to chip in your own thoughts on that!

If you want to reply to me or make your own posts, artwork, questions, anything like that then use the hashtag #hogwartsreread so we can all join in each others discussions and talk to each other about our rereading experience!

Reblog if you’re interested so we can get as many people involved as possible! I’ll be posting reminders as we get closer to the day but I’m so excited and hopefully you guys are looking forward to it too!

Bucky winces as the front door creaked; he’d have to change the hinges soon. The floor boards ached underneath his boots, making awful creaking noises with each step. Goddamit, he was trying to be quiet for fucks sake and his 7,000 year old house was making that nearly impossible.

“You’re back early,” Bucky looks up from the old wooden floor to look upon his wife, standing at the foot of their stairs with a robe wrappedaround her body. Bucky can’t help but smile as he lowers his bag to the ground, immediately enveloping (Y/N) into a tight hug.

“Mission went off without a hitch,”

“Mmhh, that’s good,” (Y/N) hums softly as she runs her fingers through Bucky’s sweat matted hair. “No bruises, cuts, broken bones?”

“My leg has a small scratch, nothing to be too worried about,” (Y/N) releases Bucky from their hug instead taking his hands as she quietly led him up the stairs, stopping when the floorboards would creak gently. It took a few minutes but (Y/N) finally got them up the stairs and into their shared bedroom.

(Y/N) immediately drags Bucky to their bathroom, gingerly forcing him down onto the side of their bathtub, a vintage claw foot that Bucky spent years trying to install.

“Clothes off,” (Y/N) states matter of factly as she reaches under their sink, grabbing the first aid kit she always had on hand.

“(Y/N), it’s really nothin’ to worry about doll, just a little scratch-”

“Don’t make me tell you again Mr. Barnes,” (Y/N) clucked her tongue at him, smiling just a bit. Bucky smiled as he unbuttoned his vest, letting it droop to the floor as he began worming his boots and pants off. Before his pants were even off his leg (Y/N) pounced upon him, inspecting his wound thoroughly as though she were some kind of surgeon. She might as well have been a surgeon given how often she was stitching Bucky up, making him feel better and okay.

“I don’t think it’s going to need any stitches- this time,” (Y/N) adds the last part with a soft smile. “Probably just some cleaning and a bandage.”

“See, what did I tell you-”

“But you need a shower, you smell horrible,” Bucky chuckles gingerly as he shakes his head, still being mindful enough to be quiet.

“Only if you join me,” (Y/N) smiles softly, chuckling herself.

“I have to go make breakfast soon-”

  “We’ll help each other, promise,”

“James Buchanan Barnes, the last time you tried to cook in my kitchen you nearly burned our entire house down,”

“Yeah, but then we got to renovate, remember how fun that was?”

“I remember you nailing your hand to a piece wood, that’s for sure,” (Y/N) chuckles again, shaking her head fondly at the memory.

“Well, I have experience now and I promise I won’t burn our kitchen down,” Bucky smiles softly, his eyes twinkling with a warm sort of fondness for his wife. “Please join me?”

“Fine, but only because you asked so nicely,” (Y/N) slides off her robe as Bucky turns their tub on, letting it fill up with warm water before he and (Y/N) clambered In.

Bucky looks back as (Y/N) slides her bra off, leaving her completely vulnerable to his gaze. It felt like Bucky’s breath had been taken away; it didn’t matter how many times he looked at (Y/N), every time he did it felt like the first, every single time.

“You’re gorgeous,” Bucky whispers as he settles his hands on (Y/N)’s waist as his gaze rakes up and down her body, taking every chunk of her in. “So gorgeous,” Bucky leans forward, pressing a series of kisses along (Y/N)’s hips, stomach, and sternum. Her breath hitches in the back of her throat and her hands immediately fly to his hair, gripping it gently.

“Bucky, bath first, sex after breakfast,” Bucky smiles as he pulls back, looking up at (Y/N) adoringly.

   “You’re no fun,”

“Get in the tub you loser,” (Y/N) chuckles as they give his shoulder a gentle tap, before she clambers into the tub, taking up almost half the thing.

“God, we need a new tub,” Bucky mutters as he slides in, right between (Y/N)’s legs.

“And you’re not installing it,” (Y/N) presses a gentle kiss to his forehead as she grabs his shampoo bottle, flipping the cap open and squirting some onto her palm.

“Why not?” Bucky pouts adorably as (Y/N) uses her free hand to work some water into his hair.

“I don’t need to remind you of what happened the last time you tried to install something,” (Y/N) chuckles as she works the water into his hair, soaking it before working the shampoo in. Bucky hums in delight, sighing as he relaxes against (Y/N)’s body.

“It was my first time, I can do it so well now-”

“Bucky,” (Y/N) title his head up enough that she can lean down to press a kiss to his lips. “No more repairs or installations for you, we’ll get a contractor to come out and help,”

“What the hell kind of contractor is going to come all the way out here?”

“Bucky, stop squirming or you’re going to get shampoo in your eyes,” (Y/N) chuckles as she fondly strokes her husband’s scruffy cheek, just a barely there touch that she knew he enjoyed so much.

Bucky settles down, enough for (Y/N) to wash his hair, condition it, and manage to cover some parts of his body in soap.

“And I’m sure uncle Clint wouldn’t mind coming in to help fix the tub,”

“You’d pick Clint over me?” Bucky looks almost appalled as he looks up at (Y/N), his eyes narrowed and mouth open. (Y/N) smirks as she hands the soap over to Bucky, smacking the soapy bar into his outstretched hand.

   “Mhm, yes I would,”

“I’m offended,” Bucky mutters as he washes all the parts (Y/N) wasn’t able to get, namely anything past his pecs.

“Boohoo,” (Y/N) chuckles as Bucky begins to work on his legs, having to sling one of them over the edge of the tub to clean it. “I’ll make it up to you later,”

“Yeah,” Bucky grumbles as he works on the other leg. “I’m sure you will,” (Y/N) smiles as she tilts her head, just enough to kiss the side of Bucky’s head.

“How about waffles for breakfast and me for dessert?” Bucky hums as he sets the soap down, tilting his head up to smile at (Y/N).

   “That sounds heavenly,”

“Well let’s get going then Big guy,” (Y/N) chuckles softly as Bucky clambers out of the tub, grabbing a towel for himself and two for (Y/N).

“Thank you,” (Y/N) gets on her tiptoes to press a kiss to Bucky’s lips before quickly pulling away again. “You’re running out of clothes to wear,” (Y/N) comments as she throws him a pair of boxers and loose sweats. “We’ll have to go shopping soon,” Bucky Hums as he gets dressed, sliding his clothing on as he watched (Y/N). God- he could just look at her all day. She was beautiful in his eyes, any little imperfection that she hated Bucky loved, any stretch mark or unwanted mole, any “fat” that she claimed to have he loved it.

Bucky can’t help but wrap his hands around (Y/N)’s waist as she slips a shirt on, letting it bunch around his arms.

“I missed you,” Bucky whispers as he nuzzles his face into the crook of her neck. “I missed this,” (Y/N) sighs as she settles her arms over his, grasping his hands gently and giving them a gentle squeeze.

“I missed you too…how long will you be staying this time?”

“Whenever Fury calls me back,” Bucky presses his lips to (Y/N)’s neck, giving her a series of open mouthed kisses. (Y/N) hums pleasurably, tilting her head to the side a bit to give Bucky better access.

“We miss you,” (Y/N) whispers, stopping Bucky dead in his tracks. We. (Y/N) and their children; their children. Sometimes Bucky forgot he had a life here, a loving wife, three amazing kids, he was so caught up with Shield and missions and hydra that he forgot that he was past that part of his life; he didn’t have to worry about hydra, shield and missions weren’t his day and night anymore but (Y/N) was, his family was.

“I know baby,” Bucky sighs as he breaks away, rubbing at his forehead as he does. “I need to resign, I need to do something-”

“Don’t do anything you don’t want to do, I don’t want you to feel like you have to give up shield for us-”

“But I want to,” Bucky hangs his head, sighing once again. “I want to leave that chapter of my life behind. It’s like I’m stuck on the same damn page twenty four seven and I hate it. You guys are my new chapter, I just need to stop going back and rereading the last ones…” (Y/N) smiles softly as she reaches out, holding Bucky gently.

“Then take a break, stay at home, learn how to cook, fix our tub and walls-”

“I thought you said no more renovations for me?” Bucky smiles just a bit, one quirk of his lip is all.

“Mh, I’ve changed my mind, plus if you’re going to be here all the time you’re going to need to learn how to do some work,” Bucky chuckles as he holds (Y/N), a sweetly almost earthy sound filling the air.

   “You’re rude to me,”

“Yeah I am,” (Y/N) smiles as she gently kisses Bucky’s bare chest. “And you love me for it,” (Y/N) pulls away, taking Bucky by the hand as she gently guides him down the stairs and into their kitchen.

“Yeah, unfortunately I do,” (Y/N) gasps, feigning hurt as she clutches at her heart.

“I’m hurt, wounded,” Bucky chuckles as he wraps his arms back around (Y/N)’s waist, smiling as he squeezed them gently. “No, stop, I’m mad at you,” (Y/N) laughs as Bucky nuzzles his scruffy face in the crook of her neck, tickling her gently. “Bucky, stop, we have to make breakfast!” (Y/N) whispers harshly to the soldier but her smile betrayed her tone.

“If you keep yellin’ like that you’re gonna wake the kids up,”

“Yeah, and it’ll be your fault-” (Y/N) smiles as she waddles towards their fridge, dragging Bucky with her as he refused to let go of her waist. “I thought you said you were helping,” (Y/N) smirks as she reaches for the milk and eggs, holding them both in one hand while the other retrieved a small pack of bacon.

“I am,” Bucky chuckles as he grips (Y/N)’s hips gently.

“Then get me some flour and salt,” Bucky smiles as he presses a kiss to (Y/N)’s cheek before sauntering off to retrieve all the necessary items for waffles.

Bucky’s hand stalls as he reaches for a bag of sugar- He stared at the metal plating, stained with years of wear and tear, bodily fluids, and plenty of chalk and paint from both Steve and his children. It didn’t seem like too long ago when he’d used that same hand to choke innocent victims, it didn’t seem like years ago when one day a certain woman came up to him, held his hand, and begged him to help her. That’s how he had met (Y/N). She was being followed by a few shady men and she came to Bucky’s side for comfort. She didn’t even know him, he looked like an ex con for fucks sake and yet she still took his hand and begged for help. He remembered looking into those shining eyes of hers and feeling his heart clench as he was met with a fearful gaze. She begged him to pretend to be her boyfriend, which he gladly did.

They had walked around, stopped at a cafe, talked, and eventually stopped at Central Park. Bucky was having such a fantastic time that he didn’t even notice when the men stopped following the two of them, and apparently so did (Y/N).

“They stopped,” (Y/N) had whispered as she looked around the park. “Oh my god, thank you so much Bucky, thank you so, so, so much. How can I repay you?”

“How about a real date, one where we don’t have to worry about men following us around?” Bucky knew it was a long shot, he was the infamous winter soldier after all, there was no way (Y/N) would ever agree-

“I’d love that,” (Y/N) had whispered, giving his hand a good squeeze. It was in that moment Bucky realized for the first time in forever he wasn’t scared. He wasn’t afraid he was going to hurt (Y/N), he wasn’t afraid that hydra was lurking around the corner, he wasn’t afraid of what the next mission would be, for once he could finally just be.

“Buck, I need that sugar,” (Y/N) smiled tenderly at Bucky as she held a whisk in her hand, parts of it dripping in thick batter.

Bucky clears his throat as he reaches for the sugar, snatching it up before handing it to (Y/N).

(Y/N) had given him a second chance. He had been a broken shell, something of the man he once used to be but when (Y/N) showed up the pieces slowly started to fall back into place. He didn’t feel so scared anymore, he slowly adopted the old Bucky Barnes back into his life, the fun, playful, loving one that everyone had missed so much. (Y/N) had given him a second chance at life.

“Daddy!” Three high pitched voices break him away from his thoughts. Three pairs of feet hit the hardwood as Bucky’s kids come barreling after him; Elizabeth, Collin, and Ben. Ben and Collin were his first two kids, twins, and Elizabeth was the youngest, daddy’s princess.

All three kids latch onto Bucky immediately, shouting happily as they climb all over him. Bucky laughs as he picks up Elizabeth and Ben, letting Collin climb (more like Jump) up onto his back.

“Yeah, yeah, daddy missed you too you goofballs,”

“Daddy, I drew you a bunch of pictures!” Elizabeth cries happily, pointing to the fridge with a small finger. Bucky looks surprised as he looks at them, smiling widely when Elizabeth giggles.

   “They’re beautiful baby,”

“Daddy! I finally hit our baseball into that meadow!”

“Did you now?” Bucky looks at Ben, who was looking up at his father adoringly.

“Oh yes he did, he went in to retrieve it and I couldn’t find him for half an hour,” Bucky laughs as (Y/N) continues to whisk and fold the batter.

“And Collin,” Bucky tilted his head backwards, smiling at his son. “What have you been up to Buddy?”

“Mommy’s been teaching me how to read big boy books!”

   “Like what?”

   “Harry- Harry-”

   “Harry potter?”

   “Yes!” Colin smiles excitedly.

  “That’s so cool!”

“Yeah!” Collin nods as he wraps his arms around Bucky’s head, making it impossible to see anything.

“Kids, why don’t you go play on the swing and daddy will come play once breakfast is almost done?” The children squeal happily as they jump off Bucky, rushing to the back door and out into their endless backyard.

Bucky smiles fondly as he watches them scurry off, his heart clenching just a bit. Years ago he never would have believe he’d settle down, get married, have a family, he had been too dangerous for that but here he was, making breakfast for his wife and children and in his own home too, not some tower or sanctuary, his own home with rooms and a kitchen and a backyard.

Bucky can feel the tears burn at his eyes but he ignores them for now. Instead he wraps his arms around (Y/N) once again as his lips find purchase on her temple.

“Thank you,” Bucky whispers hoarsely, making it obvious he was on the verge of tears. (Y/N) immediately looks at him, her beautiful eyes shrouded in worry.

“What for?” Bucky smiles gently as he rubs his nose against (Y/N)’s, inhaling her comforting scent deeply.

“For giving me a second chance,”

~MASTERLIST~

“Baby. Babe, you gotta wake up. Come on, let’s see those pretty eyes.”

Squeezing your already closed eyes, you flipped onto your stomach to bury your face in the pillow as your brain began to bring your body back to full consciousness. The familiar sounds of an early Friday morning poured into your ears as your boyfriend began gently rocking your stiff body.

“You hit snooze in your sleep again. You’re lucky your loud ass alarm woke me up so I could stop you from oversleeping.”

E,” you groaned, your voice being muffled by the pillow.

“Yes, love?”

You nearly fell back asleep as Ethan’s long fingers pushed the hair that had fallen to the sides of your face back and over your shoulder, twisting a couple strands between his digits as he did so.

Finally opening your eyes, you turned your head and allowed your tired, blurry vision to focus on the most gorgeous man you’d ever laid eyes on. He was propped up on his right elbow, greeting you with a small and sleepy smile. His lower half was still tangled in the sheets up to the hem of his boxers, leaving his naked upper body on full display. Turning onto your left side to face him and get a better look, your sleep-heavy right arm extended in front of you to sweep the messy strands of bedhead away from his eyes. Ethan watched your eyes intently as they followed your movements. You dropped your hand to his jaw, your thumb automatically grazing over your favorite amount of stubble. Tracing his jaw down to his chin, your eyes locked on those full, flushed lips. As if on cue, his tongue poked out and licked the soft skin. They were so… velvety. Your thumb was drawn to them like a magnet, outlining their rounded shape.

“I love you,” you whispered as the pad of your thumb lightly stroked the plump skin of his bottom lip.

A low and breathy chuckle slipped from Ethan’s lips as the corners of his mouth turned upwards, flashing you his bright, toothy smile. Your favorite sound followed by your favorite sight. His little laughs sent shivers down your spine and his beautiful smile made your heart leap. You wished he wouldn’t be so overcritical of his bright smile.

“You love me, huh?” He sighed, lips pulling together in a teasing smirk. Goosebumps dotted your skin at the barely there feeling of his hand gliding down your side, palm landing on your hip. His fingertips softly dug into the swell, his thumb caressing your skin and allowing the faint scrape of his nail.

“Mmm,” you hummed in response as your eyes fluttered closed.

The deduction of your vision gave rise to the heightened ability of your remaining senses. Suddenly, every touch receptor in your body was notifying you of the presence of Ethan’s hand lovingly kneading at the curved softness of your hip. Your ears centered on the barely audible, continuous cycle of his slow and deep breathing. The faint and worn smell of his woodsy cologne still lingered on his hot skin. The bed shifted slightly where Ethan was laying as you sensed him leaning forward, planting kisses on each of your closed eyelids and one on the tip of your nose. Scrunching your face with a smile, you slowly opened your eyes immediately noticing just how close Ethan’s face was to yours. You could make out every shade in the melting pot of color within his irises and count each of his long, black eyelashes. The same playful smirk was plastered on his face as he whispered his response in a gravely tone, his palm adding more pressure behind the squeezing of your hip.

“Well baby, that’s quite the relief to hear, considering I love you as well. Maybe we should date.”

“Maybe,” you giggled, once again bringing a hand up to his hair, your fingers softly digging into his thick, dark locks. Ethan’s eyes closed as a quiet, innocent groan rumbled in his throat. A similar smirk played on your own lips as you continued your taunting: “Or maybe not.”

Without missing a beat and with eyes still closed, Ethan’s hands firmly grasped your sides, easily hauling you forward, emitting a squeal from your lips. He guided you on top of him in a straddling position, the palms of your hands flying to his chest in order to keep your balance.

Immediately, you bent down to press your lips to his in a brief kiss before placing the left side of your head on his right collarbone. Your arms snaked easily around his neck, hands instantly twirling and playing with the puffs of hair on the nape of his neck. Your eyes closed as well as you listened to his steady pulse and focused on the light scratches his nails were giving your back. These sweet morning moments were few and far between, but you wished they happened everyday. With Ethan’s career and your college schedule combined, many times one of you would be gone before the other even woke up. Today, however, Ethan had the entire day off, but you still had class. You were seriously considering playing hooky for the day, but you knew Ethan wouldn’t allow it. Especially considering the struggles you’ve been known to have in certain subjects. His voice brought you back to reality the moment he noticed you beginning to slowly drift to sleep again.

“C’mon sweetheart,” he mumbled into your hair. “You gotta get to class.”

The whiny groan that  vibrated from you made Ethan’s heart melt. He lived and breathed for the many effects he had on you. That being said, he was still fully aware you had him helplessly wrapped around your finger. The idea of staying in this same position: legs twisted, arms wrapped, and faces buried as you soaked in the warmth of the other was something you both craved. It was nearly enough to break Ethan’s strength and keep you in this bed all day. Almost.

“I’m sick of it,” you muttered into his neck as your right hand traced his prominent clavicle. “You know it’s my worst class. I’m the most stressed I’ve ever been.”

Ethan’s hand rubbed your back gently in comfort as you spoke. He knew just how much you hated this class in particular. You studied yourself sick night after night, often not coming to bed before two or three in the morning. He witnessed too many tears of frustration and defeat slipping down your cheeks as you read and reread sections in your Power Points, handwritten notes, and textbooks containing the most complex information of each chapter. The immense pride he felt when you finally had a breakthrough of understanding was indescribable.

Unfortunately, those moments of glory never came easy.

You were on the verge of one, he just knew it, but you needed to get to class to take another step towards it.

“I know you’re sick of it, but you have to go,” Ethan soothed, still rubbing circles into your lower back. “When you come home, we can come right back to this same position and stay here all weekend if you want.”

You sighed, instantly relaxing at the thought. Taking in his words, you unraveled one of your arms and reached out to press the home button of Ethan’s phone laying on his nightstand.

8:15 AM.

45 minutes until you had to leave. As you read the large, bright numbers on his screen, you felt your boyfriend’s arms wrap around your abdomen tightly in a comforting embrace as he pressed his lips to your forehead.

“I’m all yours the second you come back home.”

As you began weighing the pros and cons in your head, your thoughts were soon interrupted by a swift, playful slap to your backside causing you to shriek in surprise.

“Up,” Ethan commanded with a chuckle and another slap.

“Okay, okay,” you whimpered, pushing yourself off your boyfriend and onto your feet.

You padded into your connected master suite and turned on the shower, allowing the water to heat up before poking your head out of the doorway to catch a glimpse of Ethan. His long legs were sprawled across your shared bed, one arm behind his head and the other attempting to rub the sleep from his face. You tiptoed to the edge of the bed and waited until he noticed your presence. His movements froze as he caught your eyes wandering across his torso.

“Take a picture, princess. It’ll last longer,” he teased with a raised eyebrow.

You rolled your eyes at his tone.

“Wanna shower with me?” You asked in your sweetest voice in hopes of convincing him.

Ethan chuckled as his arms reached over his head, proceeding to stretch out his body head to toe, making the most adorable whine as he did so. He let out a deep sigh as he propped himself up onto two elbows, causing his biceps to flex and bulge. He took his time lovingly studying your perfectly messy hair and makeup free face. You were stunning through and through in his eyes. A lazy smile crept onto his face as he noticed your eyebrow raising in response to his stare.

He untangled himself from the sheets, stood, and positioned himself directly in front of you. Before you could speak, he cupped both your cheeks and gently encouraged you forward as he tilted his head down to press his lips to yours in a sweet, leisurely kiss. Slowly pulling away, his hands floated from your cheeks to the sides of your waist.

You barely had time to register the smirk that had found its way back to his features before he was scooping you up, throwing you over his shoulder, and marching you back into the bathroom.

xx

Let’s face it, we bookworms tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves, when it comes to our reading, because we’re weird like that, but in a good way. And, the truth is that reading should always be fun. Guilt free. ALL THE FUN SO MUCH OF THE FUN BECAUSE WORDS ON PAGES *insert screech* You know what I’m talking about. So I thought that compiling a list of the reasons that bookworms feel guilty and why they should just stop would be a great idea

  1. Not reaching our Goodreads challenge/lowering our goal for the year

In the past few years, the Goodreads challenge has become a staple of measuring achievement when it comes to reading. It has become insanely popular and it’s honestly such a good tool to keep track of everything you’re reading. But it also adds an immense amount of pressure. I’ve been there. When December rolls around and you see that you’re to the Goodreads challenge what Pluto is to being a planet in the Solar System (a.k.a. not even close; also VIVA LA PLUTO because Pluto deserved better smh), the panic sets in. You’re left with two options: lowering your goal or not finishing the challenge. Both make you feel like crap. But honestly, life makes us feel like crap far too many times, thank you very much, so let’s not let reading add to the ever growing pile of crap, am I right?

There’s no reason to feel guilty. If you read one book that year, you’re still a bookworm and it’s still a HUGE achievement. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t reach your challenge. It’s just a stupid tracking tool on the internet, it’s not something to measure your worth as a reader or as a person. You’re still awesome, even if you read just a page. Even one page counts. We’re busy, school and work get in the way 99% of the times. Unexpected life events occur. Shit happens. It’s normal and it’s expected, because life is fun and all that jazz.

Also, may I suggest a great idea: set your goal to one book for the year. Boom! Pressure off. You’ll still be able to see what books you read, how many pages and all that jazz, with the bonus that you don’t feel like hyperventilating every time you open your Goodreads account

  2. Not finishing books (the dreaded DNF)

Let me tell you something right off the bat: life is too short to waste on books that you’re not enjoying. Yes, I know, if you’re like me, you die a little on the inside every time you are at that point where you want to scream at the book you’re reading: BUT WHY ARE YOU NOT GOOD WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME WHO DID I OFFEND IN A PREVIOUS LIFE FML FML. It’s a reality. But let’s face it: you’re not going to enjoy every single book you pick up. It’s just not written in the stars. Which is why it’s perfectly acceptable to just…stop reading it. Put it down. Hug a kitten. Contemplate the universe. Leave it be. Maybe pick it up at a later time, maybe not. But don’t feel guilty. You didn’t disappoint the book, yourself, the book gods or literature as a whole. It just wasn’t meant to be and you should never force yourself to read a book you’re not enjoying. In my case, every time I force myself to keep going with a book I’m not enjoying, I tent to end up in The-Thing-That-Should-Not-Be-Named a.k.a. the Book Slump™. Just…no.

  3. Not reading classics

80% of the classics I’ve read have bored me to tears. I mean. I want me some dragons, magic and lost princesses. There are no such things in most classics (a huge oversight on the part of the writers, but I’m not pointing fingers). I’ve stumbled upon some that I really enjoyed, but too few to really make me actively pursue reading classics. The trouble is that a lot of people cringe so badly when you tell them that you don’t read classics.

“So yeah, I don’t really read or like classics”
“OMG HOW DARE YOU I AM OFFENDED”
“Um, I just..don’t really enjoy them/relate to the stories/want to live while I’m reading them”
“BLASPHEMY. SACRILEGE. BEGONE HEATHEN. SHAAAAME”

Whenever people react like this, it puts me off reading classics even more, because I hate judgy people. But I digress. My point is, the amount of classics that you read or don’t read doesn’t indicate how “good” of a reader you are (fyi, there are no good or bad readers imo). It’s just indicative of the genres you enjoy reading. That is all. People who read classics aren’t THE BEST BOOKWORMS™. They’re just people. Like you.

  4. Rereading books

I will shout this from the rooftops: I LOVE REREADING BOOKS. It’s something so refreshing and comfortable to go back to a book universe you fell in love with. To revisit favourite characters and go on adventures with them again. I reread at least a few books every year. Last year, I actively tried to reread at least one book each month. It was so much fun!

Rereading books can get you out of The Slump™. Rereading books is an excellent alternative for when you can’t afford to buy new books because stupid life costs money booooo. Rereading can be so insightful, because you notice so many things you missed on your first (or second, or third or…you get my drift) read. Rereading can be a whole new experience years after reading that book for the first time. Rereading a certain book can be the best for you at a certain time, because everything is familiar and safe. Rereading is absolutely no reason to feel guilty – people usually say they’re wasting time when they’re rereading (um, no), missing out on new releases (they’ll still be there a week later when you finish rereading your favourite book thank you very much), they fear not liking it as much the second time around (fine, I’ll give you this, it’s a possibility, BUT I ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE). Long story short: reread more books 2k17.

  5. Neglecting books because life

We’re bookworms, yes. But we’re also People Who Need To Live and Function in Society. What does this mean? That we sometimes don’t have that much time to read (I know, it’s just so rude). Days may pass when we don’t read at all. Weeks. Sometimes months. Years? (all my college years were spent reading almost academic books exclusively; it was a dark time in my life). But that’s okay. There’s no reason to feel guilty for doing our best to live out lives. Doing that sometimes implies giving up certain things, because we simply don’t have the time or energy to do them. That doesn’t make us bad people or bad readers. Your books will still be waiting for you when you have the time to devote them your full attention. Books don’t judge.

Surprisingly or not, this is just part one. I have many feelings about this particular topic, because I really really want people to read books guilt free. And live the bookworm life to the fullest

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these points. And if there was ever a time you felt guilty for something book related

Happy reading, bookish people <3

Fanfiction Appreciation Post: Haikyuu!! (KuroTsuki)

I am super grateful for all the wonderful people who put all their hard work into writing fanfiction beautifully. So, since Fandom Fic Rec Days are coming soon, I’m going to make a couple of posts dedicated to my favorite fanfics! I have too many in Haikyuu!!, so there are subsets based on the main relationship in the fic. Enjoy!

(These are in no particular order)

Days without you are horrible by boy101 (T; 1.1k; English; Complete)

Tsukishima comes home late after a shit day at work and mentally beats himself up for it. Kuroo’s there to make things a little more OK again.

Comments: I’m not even sure why, but I loved this one so much when I first read it, and sometimes I go back and reread it just for the heartwarming feeling it gives me.

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? by MelissaWritesStuff (@melissawritesstuff) (G; 6.4k; English; Complete)

“You don’t have anyone to kiss at midnight, do you?”

Tetsurou could sense Kei tense up beside him as he hesitated. “…No. I don’t.”

Tetsurou took a deep breath before looking up at Kei, and Kei’s expression was impossible to read, so Tetsurou just said it. “Would you mind if I kissed you?”

Comments: OMG ONE OF MY FAVORITES IN THE “GETTING TOGETHER” CATEGORY. Just, all that pining, and how they finally, finally realize how the other feels. Ugh, my heart.

xiv by ronan  (@kasbrekker) (M; 7.2k; English; Complete)

He counts the many moles on Tsukki’s unblemished skin and kisses the ones on his back. He’s always joking about them composing a constellation.

“This one looks like Scorpius’,” he lied once, tracing a random pattern between Tsukki’s shoulder blades.

Comments: I love the well-done details in their moments and the delicate fashion in which this fic handles things like coming out. Sexual orientation is difficult to explain as it is, but romantic orientation is a whole other uncharted territory. Also omg the plant.

Two Week Fold by surveycorpsjean  (@zanimez) (E; 28k; 7 chapters; English; Complete)

Tsukishima is a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas.

A gorgeously rich businessman keeps stopping by his table- cat eyes so dark, swirls of interest dragging where ever they look.

“I need something pretty to take with me to the match.” He purrs, “And you certainly are pretty.”

Comments: I tend to avoid AU’s that are canon-divergent, but goddamn this one just stole my heart. Amazing!

to the beat of my heart by kittebasu (chanyeol) (E; 68k; 2 chapters; English; Complete)

Former boyband member and acting idol Tsukishima Kei’s continued entanglement with Nekoma’s lead singer Kuroo Tetsurou is just a series of missed steps in choreography he can’t quite master. (It doesn’t help at all that Kuroo Tetsurou makes a habit of constantly changing the music.)

Comments: Again, I usually don’t read fics with AU’s that are canon-divergent, but this one just blew me away. Incredible fic.

This list is in no way complete. These are just five of the several fics that have given me the feels, warmed my heart, made me melt, brightened my day, and/or inspired me. Even if those fics aren’t up here, I really appreciate the hard work of all those writers.

Stay tuned for appreciation posts of fics with other Haikyuu!! pairings, and for appreciation posts of fics for other fandoms!

anonymous asked:

Any chance of a few good modern au fic recs for this piece of enjoltaire trash?

oh I’m sure I could think of a few… *winks with both eyes at the same time*
(also, here’s a list I made from a while back of some good e/R fics!)

Still the One by kjack89

Enjolras and Grantaire’s 50th wedding anniversary.

I don’t want to give it away, so I’m just going to say you should read it. Seriously

Word Count: 3,438

Oblivious by kjack89

The trouble with approaching your relationship the same way you approached your at-times contentious friendship is that apparently, no one realizes you’re actually dating. Or else Enjolras and Grantaire just have the absolute most oblivious of friends.

Or both.

I’m so used to the “everyone except Enjolras and Grantaire knows they like each other” trope, so this one was really fun to read!

Word Count: 4,567

flightless bird by sarahyyy

Combeferre grins. “How long did you wait before you called me?”

There is a short pause. “Two minutes?” Grantaire says, and Combeferre can’t help but to huff out a laugh. “He said three hours!” Grantaire says defensively.

“He’s fine,” Combeferre says, shaking his head in amusement. “He’ll call. He always calls.”

Damn….it’s the slight ambiguity at the end that gets me… (not to be read if you’re in the mood for fluff!! You might cry!!)

Word Count: 1,883

Years Since It’s Been Clear by lady_ragnell

Grantaire really doesn’t expect Enjolras to force him to move in with him when he hears how shitty Grantaire’s apartment is. And he definitely doesn’t expect Enjolras to want him to stay, or how easy it turns out to be, or the way Enjolras has a habit of doing his studying in the sunshine on the living room floor …

Yeah, he may be in some trouble.

Everything. Everything about this. SO GOOD (ps there’s some smut at the very end, just in case you’re not into that)

Word Count: 10,726

Of Roommates And Hallways by madlyie

Prompt: “we both got kicked out of our rooms because our roommates are having sex so now we’re standing in the hallway avoiding each other” au

Enjolras learns that the guy from apartment No. 27 is much more talkative than a closed door.

Ok this is super frickin cute and the ending is just perfect. 11/10

Word Count: 1,376

I’ll be your Shelter, I’ll be your Storm by missandrogyny

Just pay me back with one thousand kisses.

Fluff! So much fluff! Good things and happy thoughts!

One Hundred Ways to Say “I Love You” by the_sky_is_forever

In which Grantaire and Enjolras take a very long time to actually say those three special words, but if you pay attention, the words are there.

Love love love love love. I felt super content (in an “I’m wrapped up in a warm blanket sitting in front of a fire on a cold winter’s day” way) after reading this and honestly that’s one of the best feelings to have after reading a fic (for me personally)

Word Count: 16,484

nothing alike by nightswatch

Enjolras comes across a guy who’s trying to steal his car. Except that he’s not actually stealing his car.

The second hand embarrassment is real (I may or may not have buried my face in a blanket while reading this)

We’re All Stories, In The End by theglitterati

Les Amis discover fanfiction. About themselves.

I had to put this one on here just for fun because I was cackling when I read it

Word Count: 2,210

Ice Ice Baby by sigh_no_more

In the almost four years that Enjolras had known his friends, he always managed to avoid ice skating with them. This was very purposeful. It had to be. After all, they lived in the Northeast, so plenty of opportunities arose for him to go ice skating. He just never took advantage of them. Because Enjolras had a secret. A dark, terrible secret.

Given how nosy and internet savvy his friends were, it was kind of a miracle that only Combeferre and Courfeyrac knew about his past.

But it was time.

(Or the Amis go ice-skating and find out a surprising truth about Enjolras.)

Ok I had to include this one on here too because when I was rereading it just now, it kinda reminded me of Yuri on Ice and that made me happy sooo :)

Some of these may be fairly obvious, but I feel that sometimes people (me included) overlook the obvious. Hopefully by following these tips you’ll be able to study more effectively and see an improvement in your language learning!

1. Know how you learn best. You can take quizzes online to find out what kind of learner you are, whether you learn best by writing things out, listening to information, reading, etc etc. This might be obvious, but if you’re not using studying techniques that work for you, you won’t learn much (or it’ll take you much longer than necessary). Following on from this- DON’T LET OTHER PEOPLE TELL YOU WHAT TECHNIQUES WILL/ WON’T WORK FOR YOU. This happened all the time at school, teachers would tell me I can’t study by just writing/ reading my notes. Jokes on them, I got 7 A’s.

2. Do a bit everyday. This doesn’t mean you have to sit down in front of a textbook for 2 hours a day. Even just reading over the notes you made the previous week will help commit it all to memory. Honestly, rereading notes is the way to go when you’re tried/ just feeling lazy (we all have those days). Repetition repetition repetition!

3. Use more than one resource. Only using one textbook/ app/ website is only going to give you one definition/ explanation for what you’re learning. Having a ‘back up’ resource will mean if you come across something you’re not sure about you can easily look up another explanation which should help you understand it better! It may also cover something that isn’t mentioned in your ‘main’ resource, so you’ll be learning even more! That being said, try not to overload yourself with textbooks and online courses. Using too much will slow you down.

4. Set goals. Breaking it down into smaller chunks will prevent you from feeling totally overwhelmed with the idea of learning a language. Setting goals like ‘5 grammar points and 20 words a week’ will mean that you can easily progress and achieve what was set, which will not only make you feel great about achieving those goals, but it will also mean you will be learning at a good pace. Following on from that…

5. Go at your own pace. Just because someone claims you can be fluent in 3 months (ya’ll know who I’m talking about) doesn’t mean it’ll work out like that for you. Sure, some people can learn a language to a high level in a year, but for others it may take them 2 or 3 years to get to the same level. That’s totally fine! If you try to rush, chances are you won’t actually learn much at all. It’s much better to take all the time you need (be it 3 months or 3 years) than trying to learn it all at once but never remembering it or learning it wrong.

6. Use the language in everyday life. You don’t have to travel around the world to do this. You can change the language on your phone/ laptop, make friends online who are native speakers, writing a diary, even just talking to yourself.  Using the language will help cement it in your mind and make it feel more natural when you speak it. Even just narrating your day in your head will help you become more familiar with the grammar and words used.

7. Write things down. Even if you don’t write out pages and pages of notes from a textbook, keeping note of new words or grammar structures you’ve learnt will help you remember them, and if you forget something it’s all there in writing! It will save you from having to look it up again online or in your textbook, and the process of writing it out will help you become more familiar with it and commit it to memory.

Why are we not talking about how quickly and how personally Harry understands Krum’s motivations in the World Cup. It’s not just because they’re both great seekers - this is a moment that is set up to establish that Harry identifies with Krum. Sure, he’s presented to us as much more innocent and much less arrogant, but Rowling is taking this moment to let us know that Harry understands the impulse to make sacrifices for the sake of retaining control. And isn’t that essentially the superobjective of the end of the series? Harry sacrifices everything to walk into those woods - he knows that Voldemort is going to beat him, and he wants to end it, but on his own terms. That trait becomes a such a crucial theme of the last book, and Rowling was pointing to it all the way back in book four.

I love rereading.

Okay, so I was rereading Journal 3, and I noticed this at the back. I hadn’t paid much attention to it before, ‘cuz it sounded like a completely ordinary thing for Grunkle Stan to say.

At least, until you realize what he’s REALLY saying.

“This book is amazing!” He’s talking about the Journal. As in, HIS BROTHER’S JOURNAL. He’s literally calling it amazing.

I mean, maybe he doesn’t really mean it, and it’s just sales pitch, but he wouldn’t go through the trouble of marketing it in the first place if he didn’t think it was worth marketing at all.

Also, notice that the quote is credited to HIM. Not some famous person he made up. Throughout the series, it is shown that Stan isn’t jealous of Ford at all. He’s PROUD of his brother, his smarts, and everything he’s accomplished, up until he’s disowned. Now that they’ve made up, perhaps that pride is coming back.

Then again, maybe I’m just overanalyzing everything.

Honestly....

If you think you can separate T'Challa’s race from his value as a hero, then you don’t understand his character or story at all.

T'Challa IS a good superhero with a good story, sure. But if you can only like him by ignoring his race, or feel the need to diminish his race to affirm that he’s a good hero, then you don’t understand the character or his story. Go back, reread the comics, and learn about the events surrounding the times it’s been in print.

87/366 - Nodus Tollens : the realization that the plot of your life doesn’t make sense to you anymore—that although you thought you were following the arc of the story, you keep finding yourself immersed in passages you don’t understand, that don’t even seem to belong in the same genre—which requires you to go back and reread the chapters you had originally skimmed to get to the good parts, only to learn that all along you were supposed to choose your own adventure.

Tower of Dawn cover musings...

My box is flooded with Q’s for my thoughts on this cover. Here they are. Short and sweet.

[Ahem]

It looks like an owl/parakeet/hawk/eagle thingy.

Chaol is from Anniel—a people known for their guardian warriors. And yes Chaol carried around/threw away his eagle pommel sword when he chose loyalty to Dorian over the king. It could be the pommel.

I still think the ruby in Damaris is a maybe witch mirror which has nothing to do with this cover other than if this is a sword pommel then all the emphasis on swords in this series is probably not a coincidence.

Last thought: We still don’t know if the creepy owl that sometimes follows Maeve around is a person or not. Was it @sparkleywonderful who thought it was her “dead” sister? (And before you all start to post that the owl is Maeve’s shift form, go back and reread. It chills in the room with her in HoF and it’s never clear when it flies off if it’s Maeve in a shift form or the owl that chills with her.)

it’s amazing what baking can do

Okay so, this is my first attempt at writing and I’m not even sure myself what is going on here but anyway here it is. A massive shoutout to @elsaclack and @peraltiagoisland for being incredibly supporting and encouraging and for helping me and letting me yell about this.

(Title from “what baking can do” from Waitress)

Amy’s reading is interrupted by a loud clashing sound coming from the kitchen. She looks up from her book and listens, wondering what Jake could possibly be doing. They rarely cook anything, most of their meals consist of takeout or whatever Charles brings them, and when one of them does cook, or at least tries to, it usually ends in complete disaster. It is quiet for a bit so she decides to pay no mind to it and continue with the book as it is finally getting interesting.

No more than five lines later she hears the noise again, this time followed by what sounds very much like Jake cursing. She sighs and puts the book down. It is better to check what he is doing before he can make a mess, or break something, or hurt himself.

She is too late, though. Almost every single pot they own is on the counter, along with some bowls and plates of different sizes. The mixer is there too, all ready to be used, and is that the flour container by the coffee maker? He’s too focused looking for something in the fridge to notice Amy standing in the doorway.

“What are you doing?” she asks.

It is only after he found whatever he was looking for, took it out, and placed it on the counter (how he found free space to put it, she has no idea) that he finally turns to her.

“It’s Boyle’s birthday tomorrow,” he says, matter-of-factly.

How to write an AP World DBQ

Each AP History class has slightly different DBQ rules. The average score for the DBQ is a 2 out of 9 which is bad for how easy the essay is. In my opinion, it’s the easiest essay. You have to know how to write it but you don’t need to know any actual history. Last year I didn’t even know the topic and I ended up doing well enough. Make it your strength. One good essay is key. This essay is a pain to write but it’s easy when you know what you’re doing.

During the reading time

  • Read the question and rewrite exactly what it’s asking. This sounds stupid but it really helps. It’s super easy to answer the wrong question. Make sure your essay talks about the question.
  • Take small notes about each document as you go, use easy words like positive, negative, social, political, economic, ect. You won’t know the groupings until you finish all the documents so it’s nice to have a few quick options.
  • After you read them for the first time, you probably have a better idea of your groups. Make sure you have three groupings. Make sure the groups answer the question. Go back and take note of what group each document is in.
  • Circle the author or the thing next to the author saying who they are. You’re going to need to notice this.
  • Underline a quote or a line. Just use that for your paper. Don’t try to reread the whole thing every single time.
  • Write your thesis. Write it. Seriously. It makes for an easier start.
  • Typically I like to have my groupings on the front of the paper, just a header with the numbers. It makes it quicker.

Writing it

  • Start by writing the document numbers on the front page of the documents. Cross each number out as you use that document. It’s the easiest way to keep track. You need to use all the documents or all but one. Make sure you don’t lose points on this.
  • Write a strong thesis. The thesis is worth one point. Make sure it’s good. You don’t even need an intro paragraph. Just write the thesis and move on. Three part thesis works best. It gives you structure.
  • Try to use every document. If there is one you don’t understand, ignore it. Otherwise, at least make an attempt. Use the word perhaps! Perhaps isn’t absolute so it can’t really be wrong.
  • You only need to identify bias for three sources but try to identify bias for all of them. It can be as simple as “they worked for the government thus they support it as they want power and a job.”
  • Don’t use the word document. Use the author’s name or the document’s title. Example: “Document two says that the French revolution was a total failure” is not a good sentence. Instead say something like “DeGaulle believed that France was dishonored in World War II(Doc 4).”
  • Do put (Doc 1) at the end of the sentence where you reference the document. Just do it. The graders want to see it. It’s also easy to look back and check that you used all the documents
  • I have always been told to not quote the documents. Paraphrase them. Use at most ten words. Analyze the words don’t just use them.
  • You have to include a sentence or two about a document that should be there and tell why. If the topic is imperialism or Europe generally taking over the world, just say the voice of a native because they are the other side of the story. BS this part. Pick a voice that should be heard on the topic. It’s just going to be BS. Make it simple. But make sure you have this! It’s one point, it’s important. Do it first thing or do it last thing. DON’T FORGET ABOUT IT. Basically, it’s a point of view thing. What other point of view should you have to completely understand the issue?
  • You’re going to get bored and lazy. You don’t need a conclusion or an intro. For an intro, just a thesis works. For a conclusion, just scribble more BS down or just restate your thesis.

Other helpful tips(with some help from my friends)

  • Don’t cry even though you will want to
  • Make inferences. Doesn’t have to be right, just sound right.
  • The essay is long and dull. Just treat it as a marathon(because honestly with the three essays, it is). Keep a steady pace. You have time but not too much time.
  • Honestly, take your time. Your other essays can write. You probably don’t know much about the other prompts. Make sure you have all the points for the DBQ before moving on to the harder essays.
  • Believe in yourself. Believe you can do it. Trust yourself to do it right and do it well
  • Make sure your handwriting is rather legible.
  • You have to write in black pen. Be comfortable with writing in pen.
  • Am I missing anything?
