Front + back game covers and the disc’s front cover for the North American Xbox release of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee.

This specific version of the game was released on April 16, 2003. There was originally going to be a PAL Xbox version in addition to the NA release, but it was later cancelled for unknown reasons.

My reaction this morning as I see how dumb people in this fandom have gotten.

Guys. Stop. Seriously Guys. I mean, I think a lot of us who posted “HEY GUYS GO VOTE GODZILLA” just meant. At least go vote once so we can say we tried. Not “LET’S SHOW THE WORLD HOW INSANE WE ARE A FURTHER DEPRECIATE NORMAL HUMAN OPINIONS OF A GENRE AND FANDOM ALREADY MOCKED AND DERIDED.”

It’s like with the Criterion cover. Yeah, wrong Godzilla, it’s weird, but IT’S A CRITERION DISC, SO IT STILL LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND HAS TONS OF GREAT FEATURES.

Or slip ups in subtitling on Classic Media DVDs years ago. I’m sorry, we really should have stuck to the barebones five pack whose only special feature was a Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Trailer. THAT SHIT WAS SUPERB.

I get where a lot of this is probably coming from. The most zealous of our fandom coupled with the fact Godzilla and a lot of kaiju films get mocked relentlessly by people who don’t know what they’re talking about or can’t wrap their heads around the fact that practical tokusatsu is more of a stylistic choice anymore. I mean, did the Planet of the Apes people do this to us when we were up against them in a STUPID MTV MOVIE POLL? No, because…well…they’re probably unaware of a STUPID MTV MOVIE POLL.

In the end, I’m not saying don’t vote. I’m just saying. Open your damned browser at least once a day and go vote for the Big G. That’s it. This using some sort of add-on and assaulting fans through the anonymity of the internet is just…like the most basic of.day one on the internet rules: DON’T BE THIS DUMB/ANNOYING/SUCH AN ASSHAT.

Also, let’s all remember that one of our fandom’s founding fathers, Ishiro Honda, PREACHED BROTHERLY LOVE AND WORKING TOGETHER TO BETTER THE WORLD. Look at Gojira, Gorath, Atragon, The Mysterians, Battle in Outer Space, and look at Matango for what happens when we don’t. All people who put aside the worst part of themselves to help one another. Ugh. Sorry for ranting, but I’ll leave you with this quote (Dub version, which I feel is slightly more eloquently worded) which embodies Ishiro Honda’s feelings:

Just as you distrust us, so we distrust others as well. It’s wrong. We’re all human. As humans we are responsible for each other. We are related. Refuse us and you abandon your brothers. We must learn to help each other.” - Ichiro Sakai (From Mothra vs. Godzilla)
