godfrey's beach

Sometimes it pays to be up early - catching the sunrise on the sandy shores of Godfreys Beach in Tassie’s North West corner. Godfreys Beach is located just outside the the historic fishing village of Stanley, nestled beneath the imposing basalt plug of The Nut. It is an area that is all that remains of what was once a giant volcano, and evidence of its volcanic past can still be seen throughout the coastline, from the solidified lava flows that make up the steep walls of the Nut, to the eroded basalt boulders that stand guard at each end of Godfreys beach.
