Can you turn most of the Heathers song titles into Disney songs? Like this- Beautiful - "Out There", Candy Store - "Friends from the Other Side", Freeze Your Brain - "Love is an Open Door", Big Fun - "Topsy Turvey", Dead Girl Walking - "Kiss the Girl" or "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", The Me Inside of Me - "God Help the Outcasts", Our Love is God - "Savages", Seventeen - "I See the Light" or "If I Never Knew You", Shine a Light (Reprise) - "Not One of Us", Meant to be Yours - "Hellfire"

This took me… forever lol. And obviously it’s not going to be accurate because the context of Heathers in general vs Disney. Obviously but still.

I sat on this for a while because I had a lot of different opinions but I had to line up exactly which ones I thought lol Big fun i agree probs would be topsy turvey, but almost all the rest this is my thinking.

Beautiful - “Go the Distance” Hercules also  “When will my life begin REPRISE” tangled
Candy Store - “Mother Knows Best” Tangled also “Poor Unfortunate Souls” From Little Mermaid
Freeze Your Brain - this one was hard lol “When She loved me” Toy story 2 ((thank you @freezerbrain ))
Dead Girl Walking - “Let Me Be Good To You” Great Mouse Detective
The Me Inside Of Me - “Reflection” (Mulan)
Our Love Is God - “Trust in me” Jungle Book “My Lullaby” Lion King 2
Seventeen“Out Of Thin Air”  Aladdin 3 - sorry that one is more obscure which is why I am linking it lol!! also - “Love will find a way” from lion king 2
Shine A Light (Reprise) - "Prince Ali (REPRISE)“ Aladdin, though I agree Not one of us suits too. The Aladdin one is more mocking/humiliating for the sake of it vs casting out a villian.
Yo Girl - “Mother Knows Best (REPRISE)”
Meant To Be Yours - hhhh hhhHHHHh…. I can’t find a song  at the moment I’ll keep thinking about it, but i am opposed… morally lol! just having any connection between Frollo and JD doesn’t sit well with me. I’ll get back to you on this lol
I Am Damaged - “Poor Jack Reprise”  (most of it, anyway)
Beautiful (Reprise) - “I am moana” from … Moana obviously  hah

Here’s a bonus for Heather C lol

Putting this here for safe keeping. Friend on fb asked why the hype over Let It Go, said that it was just ok as far as Disney songs went, said that God Help The Outcasts always makes her cry

so i responded

God Help the Outcasts is undeniably one of the most heartwrenching songs Disney’s put out. But Let It Go is– well, it’s Defying Gravity 2. It’s such a perfect song for so many people. It’s a coming out song, it’s a personal anthem for people with anxiety, depression, bipolar, or any number of mental disorders, it’s the journey from self-loathing to self-acceptance and self-love.

There’s a funny gifset going around tumblr where someone captioned the song sequence with “Fuck it all, fuck it all!” instead of “Let it Go, Let it go” and “I don’t give a fuck!” instead of “Let the storm rage on!” But essentially that’s what it is. It’s a giant “Fuck it, I’m tired of hiding and fearing who I am."

It’s a song about embracing who you are despite any repercussions you might receive from the people around you. And while Disney has done "be yourself” songs before (True To Your Heart) Let It Go packs a punch because it’s so atypical for Disney. Even from the narrative standpoint, Disney doesn’t usually deal with characters who have that degree of self-doubt, anxiety, and depression, particularly in their princesses.

Snow White was chipper about her prince coming. Cinderella was sad when her family hurt her, but it wasn’t an ongoing thing– even during her servitude, she was upbeat with an air of irritation. Belle and Ariel and Tiana and Pocahontas and Jasmine and Mulan were all sad when it was appropriate, but primarily optimistic and determined and sassy (I hate that word). They were all independent and confident. They had their doubts, but nothing like Elsa, whose entire existence was a constant state of “Get it together… Don’t feel. Don’t feel.” Which is why Elsa’s song packed the punch it did.

Yeah, in the course of a musical number Simba grew up, Hercules went from zero to hero, and Li Shang trained a bunch of couch potatoes into a great army. Development through song is nothing new. But when you start out a song like the first image and actually show her progressing in a realistic manner to the second image, and when the music supports that…

Let It Go is so popular because there are so many people who can relate to it. A lot. People with anxiety disorders, with depression, bipolar disorder, LGBTQIA+ people. It’s not a cutesy song about being yourself, it’s weighty as hell. Compare it to the life-advice or massive character-growth songs we’re used to: I See The Light, I Won’t Say I’m In Love, Belle Reprise, Go The Distance, Hakuna Matata, Almost There. Most of those are upbeat and jazz-hands-inducing, and the others are sweet or longing.

People are used to Disney hitting hard, but they’re not used to Disney portraying its princesses as vulnerable and strong in the same musical number.

Sorry sorry this turned into an essay. I have a lot of feelings about Let It Go.
