Men We Love:

In honor of his new film, Super 8 hitting theaters Friday, our first man we love is Kyle Chandler.  He’s best known as Coach Taylor on the phenomenal show that everyone should have been watching from the beginning, Friday Night Lights.  He’s the everyman.  In InStyle magazine, he recently said about men and style: “Guys are all about watches, boots, sunglasses, jackets. For us, simplicity is best.”

If you’re a fan of chick lit, this is the book for you.  It’s actually a series of books, and it starts with this first one, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation

This book has it all- espionage, love, history and intrigue, action- all with boys in knee breeches.  The story starts out in present day London, where Harvard grad student Eloise is in England doing research for her dissertation, which is about espionage during the Napoleonic wars, on the elusive identity of the Pink Carnation, one of a handful of flower-named spies.  What she find though, in the home of the aunt of a new love interest Colin Selwick, a direct descendent of one of the spies, the Purple Gentian, is a story that captivates her and the reader, as we go back and forth between her story and the one that she is discovering in the archives.

I’d highly recommend this book- it takes an exciting topic- spies, and combines it with a sexy and fun love story.  I couldn’t put it down when I got it, and when it ended I wanted more.  The main character, Amy, is feisty.  Her love interest, Richard, is a devastatingly perfect character, and the whole commentary on English society in the early 1800s makes for a fascinating read.
