  • Plain wood clipboard
  • Sandpaper
  • One or two colors of acrylic paint
  • Foam or regular brush for paint
  • Foam brush for Mod Podge
  • Mod Podge matte finish
  • Heavy weight scrapbook or calendar paper in a sorority friendly design
  • Scissors
  • Paper corner rounder
  • Small squeegee
  • Your choice of accents: ribbon, pearls, glitter, decals, rhinestones, etc…
  • Hot glue for attaching embellishments

STEP 1: Sand the clipboard

  • Gently sand the surface front and back with a fine gauge sandpaper.
  • Wipe with a clean cloth to remove all particles.

STEP 2: Paint the back

  • With a regular or foam brush paint two coats on the back.
  • Wrap the paint around the edges to cover about 2″ on the front. Or paint the entire clipboard if you are not decoupaging.
  • Allow paint to completely dry.

STEP 3: Paint the clip

  • Cover the clipboard surface with paper for protection.
  • Paint the clip in an accent color, or a matching color.
  • Allow to dry completely. Apply a 2nd coat.

STEP 4: Decoupage the front

  • Cut heavy weight scrapbook paper to size.
  • For added interest you can use two different papers that compliment each other.
  • Round the corners with a corner rounder (sold at craft stores.)
  • Apply Mod Podge to the front of the clipboard.
  • Apply Mod Podge to the bak of the scrapbook paper.
  • Carefully lay the paper down on the surface of the clipboard.
  • Smooth it down with a hand squeegee to eliminate wrinkles and bubbles. This is an important step!

STEP 5: Total Mod Podge

  • After the paper application has dried, Mod Podge the entire surface front and back. This gives the clipboard a wipeable surface and protects the paper.

STEP 5: Embellish your clipboard

  • Add ribbon accents, pearl trim, or monogram decals,
  • Decorate the clip with pearls, ribbons, or rhinestones.

Alternative Methods:

  • Purchase a plastic clipboard and decorate with vinyl sorority decals and fun shapes like polka dots.
  • Spray paint your wood clipboard instead of hand painting.
  • Use blue painters tape to paint fun designs like a chevron pattern on the back and/or front.
  • If you are going to hand paint an artistic design, trace it first for a more professional look.
  • Paint a sorority design on a clear acrylic clipboard.
