Richard Linklater Baseball Comedy to Release April 15

Paramount has set Richard Linklater’s baseball comedy — formerly titled “That’s What I’m Talking About” — for an April 15 release.

The studio also moved its untitled comedy starring Leslie Mann out of that release slot with no new date set.

Megan Ellison is producing the baseball movie along with Sean Daniel, Linklater, Sandra Adair, John Sloss and Ginger Sledge. Daniel and the late Jim Jacks partnered with Linklater on his breakout 1993 teen comedy “Dazed and Confused.”

The pic is the first film for Linklater following his Oscar-nominated family drama “Boyhood.”

Blake Jenner stars as a new pitcher on a highly ranked college baseball team that also parties extensively. Tyler Hoechlin, Wyatt Russell, Ryan Guzman, Zoey Deutch, Will Brittain and Glen Powell also star.

Paramount picked up U.S. rights to the Mann comedy in May from “The Hangover” writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Judd Apatow and Josh Church are producing along with Block Entertainment and Merced Media, with Lucas and Moore writing and directing.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. Merced Media is fully financing the project; Bill Block and Merced’s Raj Brinder Singh are producing.

Paramount Pictures has set a release date for Richard Linklater’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Boyhood. The baseball comedy, formerly titled That’s What I’m Talking About, will bow on April 15, 2016. That’s the date formerly held by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore’s R-rated comedy Bad Moms, which had been undated following the departures last month of star Leslie Mann and producer Judd Apatow.

Linklater’s movie stars Blake Jenner  as an incoming freshman experiencing his first weekend in college as a pitcher on the school’s nationally ranked team. The setting is 1980, and the guys step into the freedom and responsibility of unsupervised adulthood. The film also stars Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Hoechlin, 22 Jump Street and This Is 40‘s Wyatt Russell, Ryan Guzman, Zoey Deutch (Good Kids), A Teacher‘s Will Brittain, and Glen Powell, who is coming off The Expendables 3 and Ride Along 2. Annapurna Pictures is backing it and selling foreign rights.
