One of the biggest challenges was, hands down, going to be getting Maximus. Not just making him look good but making him functionally optimal for the people at Mercury that would be animating him. Not to mention retaining his very specific personality from the film. Regrettably, by the time I started working in on Max the production schedule was starting to demand that we begin working on other areas. I only did two pages of poses, this page focusing more on the naturalistic horse poses that would inevitably come up. I was dreaming of doing a lot of break-downs of exactly how horse bodies work but the time just wasn’t there to do it. Everyone says it, and it is absolutely true: horses are HARD to draw.
