getting rid of the words

I want to wash my mouth out
to get rid of all the hurtful things I said,
all the ugly words
that have escaped my lips.
I wish I could let water
wash away all the pain I’ve caused,
all the hopes I have shattered,
and start all over again.

You were getting ready for you and Jungkook’s date night. It had been a while since you two last went on a date, so you planned to look extra good today. You finish styling your hair, walking over to the mirror to check yourself. Your outfit was simple but cute. Smiling, you open your room door and head to where Jungkook was waiting. He sat on a chair, looking at his phone. Clearing your throat, his attention went to you. He didn’t gasp, he didn’t compliment you. No, he didn’t say anything at all. His jaw clenches and his eyebrows furrow. You could see a tint of anger in his brown hues. “What’s with the skirt? Why is it so short?” You look down at your skirt, not really getting why he was mad. “What do you mean? The skirt is supposed to be this short.” Jungkook stands up and a grin of mockery spreads on his lips. “Are you serious? You are not going out like this. Every guy’s going to be staring!” You raise an eyebrow and lean forward, “so?” Your boyfriend glowers at you, grabbing your arm. He sets you in your room, a black look on his face. “We shouldn’t be fighting about this! Take. It. Off.” Your eyes widen at his sudden attitude.

“Are you seriously commanding me?” you ask. Jungkook rolls his eyes at you, making you even more mad. “No, Jungkook. I’m not going to take it off! I try to look nice for you and you just bash at me for nothing!” His face gets closer to yours, hands grabbing your waist. You hated how hot he looked mad. It didn’t help in this situation. “You try to look nice for me? Babe, you’re trying to look nice for all the perverts who are going to look at you.” You push him off you, shaking your head at his unnecessary behavior. His hand grabs you again but you shake it off. “It’s ridiculous how you’re getting mad at me. You wear tight shirts that damn well show your figure but do I say anything? No. Girls look at you all the time regardless of what you’re wearing and I don’t complain, I don’t say anything! I don’t care what you say, Kook, I’m going like this to our date.” You walk towards the door, grabbing the knob and turning towards him. “Are you coming or not?” you ask him. Jungkook walks towards you and you sigh, thinking he realized his childish actions but no, he hadn’t given up. He picks you up, making you yelp, and carries you to your room. You fall on the soft mattress of your bed, Jungkook scavenging through your clothes. He comes to you with a pair of jeans in hand, still looking mad. “Take that skirt off.” he demands. You glare at him. “No.” He throws the jeans besides you, “I said get rid of it.

“I said no! Stop being ridiculous and let’s just go!” Jungkook shakes his head, pacing around your room. “You don’t get it Y/N, I don’t want you to go out like that! Other guys are going to be looking at you in a specific way. I’m the only one who should look at you like that! Some guy’s going to hit on you and knowing me, I’d probably end up punching the asshole! You’re mine, Y/N, mine. I can’t just let you go out looking like that, it makes me mad. I can’t bare the thought of some other guy with you.” Jungkook’s eyes went from anger to worry. He was frowning. Your anger faded away too and you smile at his words. A blush creeps onto your face. You reach for his hand and rub the back of it with the pad of your thumb. “Kookie..are you jealous?” His gaze drifts away from you. He wasn’t responding. “Just tell me.” you softly say. “Yes, I’m jealous. But can you blame me? I have a beautiful girlfriend. I don’t want to loose you,” He goes to sit down next to you, his head going to your shoulder. You hold him, leaning your head against his. Warmth passed through both of you. “I’m sorry I got mad..I just got jealous.” You sigh and smile. “I’m sorry too, I never took into consideration how you’d feel about it.” Your free hand plays with the hem of your skirt, willing to remove it if it meant you and Jungkook would have a nice night out. “You really do look good, though. You always do.” Laughing, you thank him.

“We should just leave, we spent too much time fighting about a skirt.” You agree with Jungkook and you two get up. You grab the jeans, but Jungkook takes them from you. “Don’t. Let everyone see how beautiful my baby looks.” You grin and stand on your toes, holding his cheeks in your hands. Your lips dance against each other, a sign of apology and love towards the other. Pulling away, you giggle at yourself. “You look hot when you’re mad.” Jungkook rolls his eyes playfully and holds your waist. “Okay okay, let’s just go.”

Rethinking CIS: finding a few grains of truth in a fucked up TERF story.

If a bullshit argument gets repeated over and over again, sometimes it’s worth weighing it again to find out what it is inside that argument that makes it so appealing. I’ve been thinking a long time about objections people have to the word ‘cis’. Most is just bullshit ‘blah, blah, I don’t want my privilege labelled’, ‘blah blah, I want to be able to label you as other’ etc.

But one argument stood out:

We’re assigned a gender too.

Now, before we start, some common definitions of Cis:

“Cisgender means that you agree and identify with the gender you were assigned at birth.”

“Cisgender is a t type of gender identity perception, where an individuals’ experiences of their own gender agree with the sex they were assigned at birth.”

“Denoting or relating to a person whose self-identity conforms with the gender that corresponds to their biological sex.”

“If the doctor announces a baby as being a girl, and she is fine with being a girl, then she is cisgender.”

“You’re cisgender if the doctor says “it’s a boy” and you’re basically like truuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeee forever”.

Now, there is something obviously absent here: transness. The experience of being assigned a gender that does not align with your gender identity. The experience of being transgender. But there is something implied in all these definitions too: agreement (notice the word agree in 2 of them), comfort, being ‘fine with that’, the absense of trauma. That, I think, is a mistake.

See, being assigned a gender at birth is not merely a word, it’s a pretty big package deal. It comes with a set of boundaries, a set of expectations, a set of pressures, a set of dangers, a set of assumptions. If you’re assigned female at birth, it comes with a second class status, a target on your back to subject you to violence and rape, and a worth almost completely defined by what you could mean to a man. We’re not just assigned a gender identity, we’re also all assigned a gender role in a violently sexist society.

And gender roles never fit. They’re designed not to fit. The ideal male role and the ideal female role are completely unachieable goals that we’re nonetheless pressured to meet. Sometimes, when a man loves cars and beer and the gym and doesn’t cry much, they almost feel comfortable. But on some level, they never truly fit any of us.

So, thing number one: We’re all coercively assigned a highly restrictive and violently policed gender role that does not fit us.

But that’s not all. A little side story: In 2009 I was sterilized against my will because I am trans. It was a very traumatic experience, a violation that turned upside down every right I believed I had and told me I did not have the right to exist.

Incidently, I also never ever ever want children and  had at several points in my pre-2009 life considered sterilization. Given enough time, I probably would have eventually chosen the procedure myself. As a result of that, I am not childless against my will and do not suffer the same grief and despair as my trans friends who wanted children and find that that option was taken from them. That is a struggle I don’t have. But that did not make my experience any less traumatizing. I don’t ‘agree’ with what’s happened to me. I’m not ‘fine with it’. It was a deeply violating nonconsentual act on my body that marked this body and this life as ‘not truly mine to control’.

So, thing number two: Being forced to walk a road that you would have walked anyway is still nonconsentual, coercive and potentionally traumatizing.

And finally- I lack the experience and knowledge to explain this last point in depth - quite a few trans POC have already pointed out that what our society defines as ‘man’ and ‘women’ are very specifically white gender identities. Stuck between hypersexualization and desexualization, ‘dangerous’, ‘exotic’ and ‘submissive’, men, women and genderdiverse people of colour all experience that their gender will always be viewed as deviant because it can not comfort to white womanhood or white manhood. For those at the receiving end of genocide, colonisation and westernisation, frameworks for what it means to be a man, a woman or some other gender within their own culture are almost completely inaccessable, erasured, destroyed and replaced with a white western gender binary.

So, thing number 3: Colonialism means people of colour are marked gender deviants by default while being denied to a non-colonialized understanding of their gender identity.

Now, put all those things together and I think we need to radically rethink what it means to be cisgender.

I don’t think we need to get rid of the word cisgender. It’s very valuable to have a word that describes not being transgender and not having to deal with specific trans experiences.

I do think we need to get to an understanding of cis that acknowledges that assigning a gender to a person who turns out to be cis is still restrictive, colonializing, potentially traumatizing and ultimately nonconsentual.

This is not fine. This is not in agreement. This is, in fact, still violence.

lexxyle asked how I did my lettering on my biology notes, so here it is!
1. Write your word out in cursive(preferably in pencil)
2. Double the downstrokes
3. Grab your favorite pen and out line and color in your letters/ word
4. Grab an eraser and get rid of the ugly pencil marks from the beginning
That’s all there is to it. Hope this helped.

anonymous asked:

can you get rid of someone for me

Rick looked up from his paperwork, raising an eyebrow. “What?”

You leaned against the doorway of the study, the varnished wood cold on your bare shoulder. One of the windows behind him was open, and the night air came in a breeze that danced over your skin, giving you goosebumps.

You swallowed, the words feeling heavy on your tongue. “Can you? Can you get rid of someone for me?”

“Why are you awake?” Rick looked back down, shuffling documents around before typing something at his laptop. His fingers flew over the keys, eyes darting between you and the screen. “It’s late. Go– go back to bed.”

“Is that a no?”

Rick heaved out a sigh. Though he had been giving you the barest amount of attention he could afford, he couldn’t ignore you away any more. Slumping back in his chair, he crossed his arms, looking you up and down.

“Wh-what do you mean? Like protect someone? Hide their existence from police? Make a new identity?” He rolled his chair forward, the wheels sliding on the hardwood. “Y-you got a friend in trouble?”

“No.” You stepped forward, back straightened. “I mean, can you get rid of someone.

You let the words sink in, watching the realization come to his eyes. He stood, pushing the chair back and walking around the desk. His footsteps were soft, quiet, and he came to stand in front of you. You felt his fingers under your chin, and looked up at him, his voice low, soft, dangerous.

“Is someone hurting you?”

You said nothing.

Rick clicked his tongue, sauntering around you in a circle. He was predatory, angular, and though you knew it wasn’t meant for you, your heart raced with fear.

He stopped, standing behind you. You felt warmth radiating from his body, his arms wrapping around you. His lips pressed into you neck, and another breeze came in, rustling the papers on his desk.

He murmured. “How long?”

Kissing your neck, his breath felt warm on your skin. Rocking you from side to side, you were intoxicated with the scent of him.

You let out a breath. “For– forever.”

Rick stopped moving, though you still felt him nuzzle into your shoulder. He hummed, as if in thought, the noise muffled. Raising his head, he dropped his arms to his sides, walking back over to his desk as if nothing had happened.

“That will be– expensive.”

“How much?”

“A lot.”

“I’ll pay it.”

Rick chuckled. “W-with whose money, b-baby?

You looked at the ground. “I don’t know, I have some stuff in savings– I did have a life outside of you-”

Rick waved his hand, and you stopped speaking. He leaned back in his chair, the lazy ease back in his grin, feet propped up on the desk.

“Listen, b-baby, I can do it. You belong to me now, your problems are therefore my problems. It– it doesn’t matter how much, because I’ll deal with it. The only question is-” he raised a hand, looking at you. “-if you’re ready to deal with the consequences. Are you ready to be responsible for that?”

You nodded.

“Then it’s done.” He smiled. “See? Easy.”

You folded your arms, unsure of what to do. “Th-thank you… Rick.”

He waved you off, picking up a folder from the side of the desk and flipping through it. “Don’t– don’t worry about it. I’ll get further details from you in the morning. Now go back to bed.”

And just like that, he was gone, his mind shooting off to some other issue or calculation. As you stood in the centre of the room, it was as if you weren’t even there. Though he was right in front of you, it seemed like a wall had been thrown up again, leaving you completely on the outside. He was cold, efficient, and for the briefest of moments, you had been his entire world.

You left the study, turning back to look at him.

“Goodnight, Rick.”

“Goodnight.”

Know Who You Are

Summary: In which you come home and remind Bucky who he is.

Pairing: Bucky x Reader

Word Count: 2,081

A/N: Inspired by Know Who You Are from the Moana soundtrack. This was supposed to be a drabble, but apparently I’m no good at the whole short and sweet thing.

If a man tortured by his nightmares is crying and no one is around to hear him, does he actually make a sound?

For months, the answer to that question was no.

No one knew about the way Bucky thrashed around like a madman in his sleep. They had no clue that the blankets that covered him became a cage that he couldn’t escape every night. They didn’t realize that his mind was exactly the same.

They didn’t know that he woke up with tears in his eyes that he didn’t remember shedding. They failed to hear him shout for the help that wasn’t coming. They were unaware that the first thing he did when he woke up was jump out of bed and search his surroundings, looking for the evil monster that lurked in his dreams. They were never there to watch the light leave his azure eyes when he looked in the mirror and realized that the monster he was running from was himself.

To write about something that will get rid of this longing to put words into poems, into rhymes, into art.
I wan’t to write about something that will drive others to write beautifully, so beautiful that I’d wish I’ve written it myself.

Revision Advice: The first draft is complete…Now what?

This one is going to be a long one, so feel free to simply go to the section you need.

General Tips:

  • Keep notes of things to fix while you’re writing the first draft. Leave them for revision and just keep writing that first draft. (Post about that here)
  • Revising is about plot and characterization. Editing is fixing grammar, spelling, word choice, etc. Focus big picture when revising.
  • It’s probably going to take a couple drafts to get it just right.
  • Even when I delete scenes/paragraphs, I like to keep them in a separate document. Sometimes the deleted scene/paragraph was simply misplaced and can be rewritten and added somewhere else.
  • Think about other stories in your genre (and even outside your genre) that you’ve read. Why did those work? What did you like about them?
  • Take your time to think about the story you’ve written and different possibilities regarding areas you find troubling or feel could use more help. I like mindless tasks to help me do this (i.e. walking, showering, sweeping, coloring, listening to music…).
  • You’ll probably here every writer say this, including me: Revision is really where the story comes alive. It’s where things start to smooth out. Of course the first draft is essential, but revision is where you refine and hone it. It’s where you can add little “Easter Eggs”.
  • Also, can I just say, revisions are the worst and best things ever. After working so hard to finish writing, you then have to tear it apart. But trust me, it’ll be better for it. Save copies of your various drafts and keep pushing forward.

If you need help figuring out what to revise:

  • Read it through—out loud. Not much to say here. But reading it out loud does help.
  • Take a break from it: Honestly, sometimes the best thing you can do is let yourself forget about it for a while. Then come back and reread. It simulates having another person read it (which is, of course, also a good idea), without actually having to give it over (which is also incredibly difficult).
  • Story planning: I have post already about this, but I want to add a few things that relate specifically to revisions
    • Write the story out exactly as it is, in really broad strokes. One sentence (or two) to describe each chapter. When you’re finished, read it over. Does the plot make sense? Is there another way to think about it? Are there too much “opening” chapters before the conflict gets going (the general rule is that it shouldn’t take more than three)?
    • Now, add the characterization the broad plot outline. How does the character change (or not) through the book, in relation to the plot? Balancing the characterization and plot progression is difficult. I know for me, I am either solid at one or the other, depending on the book. If you feel like the characterization is on point, but the plot is weak, focus on the plot. Same goes vice versa.
      • See Plot Changes or Character Changes for more advice about revisions regarding those subjects
  • PLOT changes advice:
    • This is difficult to talk about generally, but here we go…
    • Pacing: Basically, the pacing is about the number of scenes and how quickly they play out. This may seem obvious, but if the pacing feels fast than you might need to add more detail to a scene or else add another scene or two between big, major story-line scenes. There should be a bit of filler but not too much. If the pacing is slow, then perhaps you can pare down a scene or two, or even remove one.
    • Plot Arcs: Of course you have your main arc that is moving the story forward. But there should also be the smaller but related arcs that are usually more character related.
      • Large and small arcs should all tie together or be related in some capacity, otherwise it won’t feel cohesive.
      • Look at both small and large when reviewing the plot.
      • You can leave some arcs hanging. Usually the smaller arcs—which can even turn into large arcs in future books!
      • For large arcs, people typically know to add the major climax and resolution. But sometimes the climax can feel a bit weak. One way to make it feel more dramatic is to have a sort of “false climax”. Basically, this is where the reader thinks it’s going to be the climax and the scene resembles the actual climax later, but it somehow goes wrong or falls short.
        • Example: the main hero goes to battle the villain and….loses. Hero goes away, regroups/re-plans, and tries again. Maybe even loses a second time. On the third attempt—Hero wins (for the most part…you can make this dramatic as you want as well. It doesn’t have to be a perfect win, after all).
        • That is a very, very weak example but I hope that makes sense. If you have a lot of rising action up to one, single battle in which the hero wins, it’s probably going to feel less dramatic.
  • CHARACTER changes advice:
    • How can and does the plot affect the character’s life, thoughts, and beliefs? Do they overcome their fears? Do they create fears?
    • How do the other characters—including and especially the villain—change the character?
    • I guess my main piece of advice here is think of your characters as actual people. Everyone is flawed. No one is going to do the right thing all the time. Really take the time to think about your character and who they are. You can even make lists about their hopes, dreams, fears, favorite flavor of ice cream, hobbies, etc. Every little thing helps.

If you know what to change:

  • FIRST REVISION:
    • Make big changes first: delete those extra sections, write the new scenes, add in the extra dialogue or description, etc. Save smaller changes (like a name or place change or even going through and changing/tightening a paragraph) for the next read through and revision.
    • The reason to do the big stuff first is because things might change. For instance, if you go through and edit a paragraph or even combine two paragraphs, it might change if you’re planning to make some series plot overhaul. And all that hard work might be wasted.
    • If you’re writing a story with any type of mystery, make sure you planted enough large and small hints.
  • SECOND/SUBSEQUENT REVSION(S):
    • Continuing make any other major story altercations as needed…
    • Focus on the “medium changes”. Mostly, I like to think of this as the paragraph by paragraph revising. Combining, adding, revising, and cutting paragraphs. Make the writing and storytelling smooth and tight as you can. If you are questioning whether you want to keep something or not, you probably don’t. Or else, there’s a simpler way to say something. I’m definitely of the mind that less is more.
    • Cut any repetitive statements/areas. I have the habit of repeating myself a LOT. Basically saying the same thing twice. I mean, I say it in two different sections and in different ways, but usually you don’t need to do that. Often times it bogs it down. I blame my high school writing word count minimums for this one…Get rid of the filler!
    • Not everything has to be said. Not everything has to be described. If a scene seems off in some way, play around with switching some dialogue to description and vice versa. I already have a post about dialogue/description balance . If you know that post or have read it, this is honestly a good place to think about those changes.

Hope this helped…Happy writing everyone.

“Hey Geoff, it’s y/n” I said, after pressing on Geoff’s number on my phone.

“Hey, did you land already?”

“It’s fine, you’ll surprise Shawn after the concert” Geoff told me, which made me smile widely.

“Come on, come on, come on,” Y/N repeated as she paced back and forth in her bathroom while looking at the timer on her phone in her hand.

Two days ago Y/N realized she was late and bought a pregnancy test at the drug store on the way home from school. For two days, she had the brown paper bag with the test hidden inside behind her towels in the linen closet of her bathroom. As soon as she woke up this morning, she double-checked if the house was empty as her parents were supposed to leave early for a business trip. When the coast was clear, she took out the test, peed on the stick, and was now experiencing the most torturous three minutes of her life as she waited to see if the test was positive or negative.

Y/N’s phone vibrated as the timer finally rang. Y/N closed her eyes and took a deep breath before she grabbed the test and sat on the toilet. She silently prayed the test would be negative. She was never a religious person, but right now she hoped some higher power would answer her prayer. She was only a junior in high school and a werewolf. She wasn’t ready to be a mother.

She took a deep breath before she opened her eyes and turned the test around to look at the results.

Positive.
