I never thought it would last, truth be told. The Wolverine school for gifted youngsters. Sounded to me like a disaster in the making. But look at this place now. Look at you.  [Wolverine and the X-men #42]

A long, long time ago, I promised you to make some posts about being a translator… Finally, I have some free time to do it! Sorry, for being so late! As I said before, I’m not super experienced in translation, but on the other hand I don’t feel like a total beginner anymore, so I want to share my knowledge with you. Let’s start with the basics.

Some people will tell you that you don’t need any qualifications. And sometimes it’s true. There are people, who work as translators even though they have no official qualifications. But of course, it’s much easier when you get the right education. There are some things that will look very well in your resume.

That’s probably the best thing you can do. You can learn the language really well, you have opportunity to work with professionals, you are going to be well-prepared and you will get the right knowledge. Your future employers will appreciate a degree in languages for sure, if you want to work as a professional translator.

Taking part in language course is also a good idea, especially if you can get a diploma that proves your participation. You can learn many useful things and sometimes you can also enroll in a course abroad. Learning with native speakers is a great way of practice!

Some language schools organize special courses for translators. They can teach you about translation methods, special software for translators etc. It can be very useful.

Many translators study one or two languages at university, but they are also fluent in other languages. To prove their language proficiency, they get language certificate. The higher your level, the better. C1 or C2 level is always impressive.

Translating is not always as easy as it seems. Sometimes you have to translate a text about something and you don’t really know the vocabulary in your native language… That’s why translators often choose their own specialization. Some specialize in translating technical or medical texts, other focus on literature, art and psychology… The list is endless. So if you are interested in something, try to read about it in your target language, too. There are also special courses where you can learn specific vocabulary.

Learn languages on your own. Take a Duolingo course, learn on your own, read foreign books. Not everything can be taught at school, you need to put a lot of effort in learning languages. The sooner you start, the better. Practice make perfect!

Debunking the Triangle Myth

It’s very hard to find ways to keep up with all your college work and still keep a balanced life. Many people say that when you get into college, you need to choose from two vertices of the first triangle while sacrificing the third one. Well, I need to tell you that that’s completely not true!

If you plan and organize your life, you will be able to manage your sleep schedule, your studying sessions and your night-outs without sacrificing one of them.

The first thing you need to do is being realistic. Instead of sleeping 9 hours a day, perhaps you will need to cut back to seven hours a day, which will probably provide enough energy throughout the day without letting your feel the burnout. On the other hand, you need to ration the time you spend with your friends and family. The best way to do so is scheduling a fixed schedule to be with them and dedicate yourself 100% during that time. It’s not how much time you have available that matters. What matters is what you do with the time you have available. Cutting back on fundamental aspects of your life will really hurt your grades – and if it doesn’t hurt your grades right away, it will hurt your body and state of mind sooner than you think. Sleepless nights have a mark on your body. On the other hand, depriving yourself of time spent with your loved ones can hurt and destroy relationships and in the end of the day, you’ll find out that those grades aren’t as worth as much as that.

Another thing I recommend is finding some sort of physical activity that helps you manage energy levels. Even running 10 minutes a day will do wonders for your physical and mental health, letting you cope with high stress levels and the feeling of burnout. Try to unplug from your college activities, listen to some music and concentrate on your body rather than on your brain.

You also need to prioritize. Choosing tons of classes just to feel productive is a waste of time. Having a heavily crowded schedule just for the sake of it will result in lower grades and a lower ability to focus on those classes. Pick classes that you think you can personally enjoy but can also help you on your chosen career path. Try to keep both of those aspects in mind when you’re picking subjects for the next semester, or else risking signing up for classes that are just filling you with stress and won’t even matter when you get your diploma.

Find a way to get help. You are not alone in this path and many of your classmates are probably feeling the same way. Try to get together and find a way to share some tasks or somehow trade notes and materials to help each other. If you can attend a lecture for any reason, don’t hesitate to ask for the class notes and assignments. If one of your classmates skips a lecture because they are sick, don’t hold back and hand them those notes. Finding a reading group is great to divide huge books into manageable chunks and distribute them between the members, so you have less reading to do and are able to summarize your part in a better way and then share your summary with your colleagues.

Schedule some “me-time”. Don’t look at your personal space as a failure towards your productivity goals. Try to incorporate at least half-an-hour with yourself in your busy schedule, and stick to it religiously. I always read a novel from 10 p.m to 10.30. Even if I reach that hour without finishing all the tasks for college that I had set out for myself to accomplish, I will just close my laptop, put away my notes and I will just allow myself to be relaxed for that half an hour.

“Let me go! I can help!” you exclaimed loudly, your voice resonating through the Batcave. Your posture was rigid and one of defiance and you knew that going against your father was a grave idea, but you couldn’t help it. Bruce stared at you coldly and shook his head, ignoring your pleads again. That only fueled your anger. “Dad!”

“I will not risk your life, [F/N]. This mission is dangerous.” he said calmly, moving to prepare himself, Tim not too far behind him. “You are much more useful here.”

Though those words stung, you bit back your insults and instead tried to convince him that you were capable, at least, that was your intention. What came out of your mouth instead made you sound like a whiny brat.

“But Tim gets to go! And Dick! Why can’t I?!” you complained furiously. “I’ve trained all my life, I have been on countless missions, yet you always keep me sheltered! How am I supposed to learn?! Are you not proud of me, is that it?!

With a sigh, Bruce turned to look at you, “no, [F/N], it’s not like that… it’s–your graduation is tomorrow, I don’t want you hurting yourself. We can afford to take a punch to the face, but you can’t.”

“What kind of excuse is that?!” you snapped, “graduation? Last time I checked even when you had a meeting with the American president you still went on patrol and missions. A bruise or two can be fixed with make-up. You’re just making excuses because you don’t want me to go!” Your voice rose in volume as your rant continued, all that pent up frustration and anger you held came rushing out all at once. “You know, I can never learn because you are always trying to keep me safe, but I don’t need your protection! I can handle myself! Just let me go and I’ll prove to you–”

“Enough!” Bruce yelled, causing you to stop immediately and shrink back slightly. He looked and sounded angry, and you knew when your dad was angry, there was no convincing him. “You are to stay here, assist us any way possible and you do not, under any circumstances, leave the premise. Is that clear?”

Is that clear?” he repeated, his eyes glinting with fury, warning you to stand down. You reluctantly nodded your head.

With your teeth gritted, you managed to say, “yes dad.”

Bruce released a deep breath and recomposed himself. “Good. Then we’ll get going now. Tim?” The younger boy stepped forward, but stayed behind when Bruce walked to the Batmobile. He placed a hand on your shoulder.

“Sorry [F/N]…” he murmured, looking guilty. You shook your head, not trusting your words to be genuine and kind. You were absolutely, abominably furious and you knew anything that came out of your mouth would be nothing short of venomous.

You watched them take off and stared at the way they exit even after they left. On any other day, you would calm down, but this time you couldn’t but grow increasingly resentful of your family’s decision to leave you behind. Hadn’t you proved time and time again that you were capable? You were born for this life. You had began training ever since you could walk and you could proudly say you matched Dick’s flexibility and Tim’s wits. You were as skilled as any of them, and you were going to prove it.

With a surge of confidence and indescribable rage, you changed into your costume, hopped on your motorbike and sped off into the city, defying your orders for the first time in your life.

It was almost laughable, the sight that you were staring at. The sight was pitiful really–the polluted night sky, the smog obscuring the stars that made the darkness a priceless piece of art. You wanted to turn away, turn away from the very thing that showed how the world had fallen, but you had no power to move.

You winced every time you breathed. Blood oozed out of the wound on your chest, the wound that was inflicted to you while you were trying to shield a little boy from harm. Now, you were lying on an abandoned street, hand pressing just a minimal part of the large wound.

You felt lightheaded and everything was blurring out. You were so tired, but you fought to stay awake. At the back of your mind, you knew what the fatigue meant, but you didn’t want to go.

You heard rapid footsteps approaching you and your heartbeat increased in fear of who in may be. When you saw your dad, your fear only increased. You couldn’t tell his expression under his mask. You felt his arms snake under you but when he tried to lift you up, you cried out, causing him to stop. He placed his hand over yours, helping you press against the wound even when you two knew it was hopeless.

“D-Dad… I’m sorry…” you gasped, feeling tears well up. Your lips trembled as you tried to apologize, apologize for not listening to him, for not trusting him. “I-I’m so sorry, I-I–”

“Shh, it’s okay, it’s okay.” Bruce cooed, holding you closely, yet still being gentle. He sounded so lost, so utterly broken. You tried to nod, but you couldn’t.

“C-Can you… ta-take off your cowl? I want t-to see you.” you requested quietly. He did as you asked him and you couldn’t help but smile when you saw your dad’s face. Although he looked like he was on the verge of tears and was desperately trying to keep it together, you couldn’t help but remember all the times he put you to bed, found time to read you bedtime stories when you were little and allowed you into his bed when you had a nightmare. You couldn’t help but remember him ruffling your hair after the end of each training session and congratulating you in his own, special and unique way when you did something right. You remembered all of that, and your heart ached because you knew it was ending. You could never have any of that again.

With a small, feeble voice that could be lost in the wind, you whimpered, “Dad… I-I’m scared… I-I don’t want to d-die.” You began to cry and he stroked your hair, trying to calm you down. His eyes glistened with unshed tears.

“Hey, you’re not going to die.” he said the beautiful lie in a wavered voice. When you wouldn’t stop weeping, he continued, “listen to me, let me tell you what’s going to happen.” Through the tears, he smiled.

He began in the gentlest of voices, “tomorrow… we’ll be in the auditorium of your school for your graduation. When they call your name… you will get your diploma, and your brothers and I will be in the audience, clapping the loudest of all. And–” he swallowed as he tried to keep his voice steady, “–and when you come down, we’ll be waiting for you.” He sounded distant now, but you could hear how his voice cracked. “We’ll hand you a bouquet of [F/F], and we’ll embrace you, and I will say…” a tear fell from his face when he saw how your eyes were slowly losing their shine, “I’m proud of you, [F/N].” You smiled; all you wanted was to make your dad proud.

No father is as proud as I am of you.”

And with those words, you were at peace.

I want teen wolf to end with the last scene being graduation. I want braedan and Derek in the stands smiling as they see everyone graduate. I want to see Danny getting his diploma and joking with Stiles. I want to see Isaac come back to congratulate everyone. I want to see Lydia walk up to Stiles as everyone is throwing up their caps and to finally kiss him passionately, confirming her feelings. I want Malia to be hugging her father and feel a tap on her shoulders and turn and see Kira there. I want it to end with the camera following Scott as he walks into the woods into a cemetery, cap and gown and all, and end up at Allison’s grave, placing his cap on the ground, smiling fondly as the camera pans out.

Can I tell you something?

Can I ask you something?

It was a slow day at the auto-repair shop in the town-of-the-month, so you were let off early.

Sam and Dean weren’t due to be picked up from school for another couple hours and your dad was still out on a hunt, so you went back to the motel with the intention of getting some rest.

As you let yourself in, however, you realised the room wasn’t as empty as it was supposed to be.

Your voice was low, commanding, and he looked up at you with a hint of regret in his eyes.

“Y/N, I-”

“Should be in school, yes, you should,” you finished for him, closing the door and walking over to him. You took a seat opposite him, running a hand over your face in frustration. “You can’t keep skipping.”

“You don’t understand,” he sighed.

“I understand perfectly,” you assured him. “You don’t like going to school because you think you’re stupid - which, you’re so not, by the way - and you want to go hunt with Dad.”

“Or work at the shop with you,” he added, and it was your turn to sigh.

You shook your head in disbelief, after nearly a year of dating, was Minghao really just going to break up with you so he could become some superstar.

“This is ridiculous Minghao, why did you even bother asking me out if the relationship couldn’t last?”

The voice that came out was timid and soft, and you could barely hear him.

“I didn’t know they would accept me.”

You sighed, you couldn’t blame him for that.

“We can’t even skype?”

You were desperate, and that was the last thread of hope you were holding onto.

Minghao went silent, as if considering the option carefully.

“I mean, we could, but there will come a time where I can’t afford to video call or talk to you anymore, and I think that’s not an ideal way of saying goodbye.”

He was right, it was better to cut off all contact right now while you could still see him. Standing up from your seat, you grabbed your coat and prepared to leave.

“Then don’t call me anymore.”
