One night after a difficult mission made Bruce even gruffer than usual, his children gathered for a group complaining session that featured sarcastic Bruce-impressions and comments like “it would be nice to get positive feedback every once in awhile”
“I get that he loves us and all, but he could stand to show it” “Or say it, even. Never heard him do that”
At that point Cass, who had been sitting quietly, confused all of her siblings by replying, “He says that a lot”
See, Cass’s understanding of language is different. She reads body language, and it allows her to understand how people feel when they aren’t necessarily communicating it to others. Technically, Cass has never heard Bruce say “I love you.” But she’s certainly seen him say it many, many times
And since her siblings found that hard to believe, she set about proving it to them. Through the rest of the mission, every time she saw Bruce say “I love you,” she approached the nearest sibling and whispered “There”
[Bruce adjusts Damian’s cape on his way past] “There”
[Bruce rolls his eyes as Dick and Tim strike intentionally melodramatic poses on the rooftop] “There”
[Bruce hands Duke a granola bar when his stomach starts growling] “There”
[Bruce uses excessive force on a villain that came slightly too close to Jason] “There”
[Bruce tells off the collective JLA for unprofessional behavior while they openly ignore him and continue said behavior] “There”
[Bruce turns away from the truly impressive kick flip Cass used to incapacitate three separate combatants with absolutely no change in expression] “There. See? He’s proud”
The others aren’t totally sure they believe her, but if she’s right…. wow. That kind of changes everything
And since Bruce had no idea any of that went on, she’s free to continue. Whenever Cass sees that one of her brothers is feeling down, she follows them around to act as Bruce’s translator. Somebody has to do it, she figures
Ok but you know why I ship Keith and Lance so much, aside from how interesting and alive their dynamic/interactions are?
It’s because they are good for each other.
For Keith, Lance is someone that calms his temper when it counts, someone that isn’t afraid to speak his mind when he fucked up. But he’s also grounding, supporting him when he needs support, cheering him up when he’s down and listening to him when he has concerns about his own behavior. With Lance, Keith can let loose and grin and joke around - the only time he has made a joke without Lance was with Hunk and there was a distinct lack of a teasing smile/waiting for a reaction. He also knows that Lance won’t make fun of him for not understanding certain jokes or social norms, he has learned to simply turn to Lance for explanations.
For Lance, Keith is someone that listens. He can be honest about what bothers him and knows that Keith will take him seriously. More importantly though Keith is his equal. They are rivals, “neck and neck”. Keith is someone that continuously challenges Lance to better himself and even if he might feel inferior/jealous sometimes because Keith seems to be good at everything, he doesn’t doubt that Keith is someone in his reach. Lance admires him but has no delusions about his shortcomings (as it might be the case with hero-worship, he just honestly admires him). Keith is also someone Lance has fun with, Lance is competitive, the repeated challenges and the teasing make him happy.
I’m just?? All of that comes on top of the general team stuff. Because they “make a good team”. They trust each other in battle. They repeatedly save each other’s lives. They miss each other when they say goodbye. They openly worry about each other when one of them seems to be in trouble.
No, they aren’t perfect. They started out on the wrong foot and still mess up a lot. But they are trying, they care about each other and they are learning, there is no doubt that they are someone special in the other’s life.

Can we talk about Morgana’s astute observations regarding Akechi’s true feelings for Akira? Can we talk about how (Morgana’s words–not mine) Akechi’s smile when he was hanging out with Akira had been genuine? This boy– who had distanced himself from everyone, who had wrapped himself up in layers upon layers of lies that he wears like a second skin, who had made revenge his one and only goal in life – had also, in spite of himself, serendipitously found kinship in the one boy whom he has decided that he has to kill.
