How to Wash Your Hair in Space. Seriously.

We’ve seen some pretty interesting beauty tutorials on YouTube before, but we don’t think we’ve been quite this amazed. Astronaut Karen Nyberg took some time off her duties as an Expedition 36 crew member to show the world how she washes her hair in the International Space Station (ISS) and it’s possibly one of the coolest things ever.

Low gravity and all, Nyberg squirts packets of water and space shampoo while we watch droplets of liquid float through the air. (Our favorite part: the space station is so high tech that all the water ends up going through a processing system to make it drinkable.) The whole time, her hair floats upward and resembles the classic Troll Doll toys in the best way.

Her hilarious fellow crew member Luca Parmitano made a video response of his own hair routine. He’s bald so you might think it wouldn’t be all that interesting, but it’s 15 seconds of pure magic.

Alexa Chung Teams Up With Eyeko Cosmetics

One of fashion’s favorite “it” girls, Alexa Chung, is growing her resumé. Announced today, the style maven has inked a deal to be an advisor for London-based Eyeko Cosmetics. According to Chung, the partnership with founders Max and Nina Leykind is currently very collaborative and easygoing: “I send images and different inspirations to Max and Nina and we go from there. It’s quite free form at the moment.”

As soon as we heard the news, we knew this was a match made in beauty-style heaven. While we love Chung’s quirky wardrobe, we’ve always admired her signature cat eye beauty look. There’s no denying she’s good with liquid liner and the fact that’s she’s also a Brit makes this celebrity endorsement a fantastic fit.

The first collab between Chung and the brand will be a limited-edition $45 set that includes a waterproof black eyeliner and waterproof black mascara. It will go on sale in November at Selfridges, Sephora, and Space NK.

Birchbox Summer Interns Say Their Farewells: Intern Diaries

You might recall the Birchbox Intern Diaries with former editorial intern Charisse. This summer, our interns Julia, Katrina, and Geraldine heroically took over the series (though without a video camera). Sadly, since school is starting soon, this is the last time they’ll be sharing their discoveries from around the Birchbox office. Today, they’re shining the spotlight on all the Birchbox interns and their experiences here.

Where has the summer gone? It seems like we only just started working here, and now many of the interns are heading back to school. As sad as we are to leave, we’ll always be proud Birchbox alumni and look forward to future visits. This week, we’re ending the summer series on a sentimental note with some of our favorite BB memories.

Julia Casella, Social Media

“Spending my summer here has been a dream come true. What impressed me the most was how welcoming everyone was; I never felt like an intern and was always treated as a team member. I’ll look back on this summer and remember the warmth, energy, and passion that the team radiates. I’ll also look back and remember how great my skin looked when I started applying my BB cream with a beautyblender.”

Geraldine Lai, Editorial

“My internship with Birchbox allowed me to learn about the many skill sets that come together to create the box, especially concerning content. Not only was I encouraged to pitch and write blog posts, but I always felt supported and welcome here. Every day was a happy one, and felt so short! Time really does go by when you’re having fun, huh?”

Charlene Lee, Beauty Analytics

“My favorite summer memory was going on a field day outing with my team in Central Park, where we played outdoor games like potato sack races and water balloon tosses for a whole afternoon. Probably one of the best days of the summer.”

Katrina Lee, Content & Editorial

“This summer has been such an invaluable experience that I will always look back on and smile about. I’ve met amazing people, made unforgettable memories, and learned so much (not to mention becoming even more obsessed about Birchbox!). It was truly a blessing to be part of such a hardworking team. :)”

Iva Milo, Tech

“I’ve loved my experience as an intern on the tech team! It’s been so much fun and I’ve learned a lot from some incredibly talented people. I also like that everyone here seems to love cupcakes as much as I do. Best memories: intern trivia night, my mentor and I feeding squirrels at Madison Square Park, and the warehouse trip!”

Kate Neisloss, Planning

“The interns took a day trip to the BB warehouse, which was definitely one of the many highlights during my internship (obviously, I had to Insta it!). It was so nice to finally see everyone’s hard work and long hours at the office come to life. I had the best summer here and couldn’t have asked for a more organized program and amazing group of people to work with. Thank you, Birchbox—it was definitely a summer to remember! xo”

Ananta Pandey, Tech

“I had the most incredible summer as a software engineering intern. My favorite thing about Birchbox is the company culture. I feel a lot of respect here, and no team or person is considered a second-class citizen. I never imagined I could fit in so well on a tech team, but I do! I’m truly sad to be leaving this week.”

Savannah Sachs, Beauty Partnerships

“It’s impossible to sum up my experience in a short sound-byte… but it’s been amazing to see first hand just how much work and love goes into creating every Birchbox. Bonus: I now know how to apply highlighter and rock hot pink lipstick, so I’ll be heading back to school with a fresh set of beauty savvy. Thank you to everyone for making me feel welcome this summer!”

Jessica Tomkiewicz, PR & Events

“My greatest learning experience while interning at Birchbox was working on behind-the-scene details for events. It was awesome to help run, set up displays for, and greet consumers and bloggers at Birchbox events! It really made me feel like I was a part of something important—and I was!"

xoxo,

Geraldine, Julia, & Katrina
