Geoffrey Holder as Baron Samedi | 007 Live & Let Die (1973)
The religion is incredible. Why I use the religion in my vocabulary as a choreographer is because we adore the Greeks. We go to the opera to see Greek tragedy, and we love Apollo and David and what-have-you.
[But] they are the gods of the Greeks, and the Africans have theirs. When I came and saw Martha Graham doing Clytemnestra on Broadway and she’s doing her modern dance… I say, fine you do your modern dance, and I’m going to take my ballet and use the Haitian dance.
[Take] Baron Samedi, the classical character I played in Live and Let Die. I am not a “voodoo witch doctor”. I am the god of life and death.[x]
RIP Sawyer Sweeten who played Geoffrey Barone on ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. Suicide at 19- so young, so sad.
“I’m shocked, and terribly saddened, by the news about Sawyer. He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family, and his friends during this very difficult time.” -Ray Romano
“Sawyer was a funny and exceptionally bright young man. He is gone from us far too soon. The loss the Sweeten family is experiencing is unimaginable. Tonight hug your children a little tighter and please keep Sawyer and his family in your thoughts and prayers.” -Patricia Heaton
