geeking out on

SDCC, thank you!

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to all the lovely people who came out to SDCC and attended the panel and signing; to all the queer folks who poured their hearts out; to the fans, both veteran and new; to everyone who just wanted to say hi or tell me they liked my art; and to those who helped make the presale books sell out every day of the con (DH had to overnight a bigger batch every day!):

THANK YOU. From my the bottom of my heart, thank you. I was unbelievably moved.

This job has me pretty isolated for most of the time until con season rolls around, and it’s always such a warm reminder of how special it all is. I love seeing all the discourse, both positive and critical, because it’s all so very thoughtful and makes us all better. I loved meeting fellow ATLA/Korra fans and geeking out with all of you (and Janet!). I hope y’all enjoy the book in one way or another, and if anyone is coming to the Bay Area comic shops I listed previously for signings this week, see you then!!

Trope breaking headcanons

Since a post got me thinking, I decided to throw some headcanons that aren’t what the usual fandom trope dictates. Have fun!

1. Bruce and Tony are science bros but Thor and Tony are also science bros. Thor doesn’t really use much of Midgard tech, not more than he needs, but he always loves giving inputs about improvement. Tony and him can debate space theories for HOURS and Bruce will drop in one-liners as he passes by, but will make his point in those quips.

2. Steve is considered the strategist but he always takes pointers from Thor because Thor has a varied extent of battle experience and can calculate probabilities just as well as Tony can through his tech.

3. Bruce is amazingly great at video games and geeks out over every new space based game that comes out.

4. Clint hates crossword puzzles and sudoku but LOVES riddles.

5. Rhodey can mix drinks like nobody’s business and always chats with the bartender when he goes out for a drink. He and Tony have similar tastes for most cases .

6. Steve is the Master of double entendres. Once he starts, you cannot stop him.

7. All the male Avengers, except for Bruce, get their chests waxed. Tony is used to it by now. Steve thought shaving was fine but apparently not. Natasha doesn’t wax her legs or arms. She and Bruce enjoy while the others hate everything.

8. Sam is NOT a morning person at all. He doesn’t like mornings. He feels functional only after a run pumps up his adrenaline enough to be awake.

9. Vision is very cautious about his wardrobe choices. Tony blames Happy for everything.

10. Wanda practices yoga to stay fit.

11. Tony is actually not at all a slob. He’s a neat freak and extremely organised. Everything has a place and everything in its place. His chaos has an order.

So I’ve read through this lexicon about Marvel Superheroes and there are around 200 or more in there (heck I didn’t even know there are this many).

And from what I’ve gathered and understood, Peter Quill and Tony Stark are actually the only human characters in there who have neither been enhanced nor improved with superpowers or science? Even Black Widow, who I’ve thought was a “normal” human up until then, apparently was enhanced with a super-serum akin to the one Steve Rogers was enhanced with, at least in the original comics.

I mean, sure, Tony has his suit most of the time when fighting, and this power source in his chest, and Quill is half Celestial (or whatever his father is in the original comics), but they are actually the most “normal” guys in the Marvel Universe, and they are still on par with the others.

That’s amazing and I’m a bit geeking out over here because I’m super proud of those two.

my dad’s best friend was murdered a few hours ago. we don’t know much but it hit us both hard. i’m going to go to tennessee for the funeral when we know when it is. my mother in law has graciously agreed to get me a plane ticket there.

he was basically my other uncle. he got me into wrestling, began my love affair with the rock and batman, and we both geeked out over castlevania.

i haven’t seen him in years. i didn’t want my first trip to my hometown in 7 years to be because of a funeral.

this will be… hard.

ideas for a new animal crossing game!!
  • windy days where the trees blow and bells chime and villagers comment about being swept away
  • sunflowers! water lillies!
  • more ways to group things like the fruit baskets such as bouquets of flowers
  • keep all your tools on a tool belt that takes up one slot
  • being able to choose where villagers live or bring back something like the signposts
  • more conversations+replies! Just more things for villagers to say in general i’m tired of the same thing every day
  • SKINTONES
  • letter system that recognizes key phrases/words and has villagers reply to it (like if you say “how are you” they would respond, if you write something mean they would get upset and not just thank you lol)
  • DAILY MAYOR DUTIES
  • duck villagers like the rain as well as frogs (i think ducks like rain?? not entirely sure tho)
  • meet villagers at the café, museum, beach, etc for a date sort of thing, like instead of meeting at your house meet at the café.
  • bring back constellations, or at least be able to tell Celeste she’s adorable again I miss flirting with her.
  • become friends with npc like u do with sable/ once you become good enough friends they get their pictures (ik u can get some special character pics but I want blathers and the able sisters and pete etc etc) at a certain level they can pop into your house uninvited
  • be able to send kk slider fanmail/ send mail to other npcs
  • a way to plant grass. Please.
  • fruit bushes, berries and things like that
  • MORE FLESHED OUT VILLAGER PERSONALITIES. I want villagers to be mean to me again and yell at me!! villagers that are cold at first and then build up a friendship with them! I want this more than anything else on the list tbh
  • christmas lights on houses and buildings!!
  • a main street similar to the one in HHD with more shops!
  • basically everything from HHD: furniture outside, furniture closer together you can squeeze through, middle slots for items on tables, villagers holding items like ice cream, ceiling decorations and curtains and windows oh my, possibly furniture outside but with a limit
  • resize things as a form of customization
  • ability to turn furniture in more directions
  • a big hide and seek competition like the fishing tourney where you have to find every villager or something?
  • give isabelle time off! Maybe a new character that takes her place when she’s on break, like phyllis in the post office
  • when isabelle has time off (sundays? Lunch time?) u can see her roaming around town
  • more colors/options for pwp, like the police station has two options. different color scheme choices for the campsite, café, any pwp could have multiple color choices basically
  • brewster stores gyroids again I loved seeing him geek out over them
  • something (like thanksgiving) where you can gather certain food, fish, other things, bring to a piece of kitchen furniture and make them into a food to bring to your villagers or sell (ex: gather a bunch of apples and make a pie) maybe a grocery store to go along with this? And you could buy exotic fruit from that store as well?
  • more stories like able sisters+tom nook, maybe blathers and brewsters gay lovestory or something
  • buy different styles of fish tanks and bug boxes, a big tank for a lot of fish, ability to throw fish food in
  • a new way to make paths instead of patterns with options for cobblestone, brick, asphalt, and sidewalk materials
  • in your encyclopedia an icon that shows if you’ve donated it to the museum
  • ability to rotate pwps/houses
  • more animations, for example Jock villagers can jog around town
  • NOCTURNAL ANIMALS
  • library pwp with a new uptight librarian character that likes you because you’re so quiet
  • pwp on beaches+ ones made specifically for it like beach umbrellas
  • villagers contribute to museum and donate more to Pwp
  • areas away from the village you could travel to and explore, similar to the island, like woods, a winter world, maybe even some sort of planet you could unlock! Each have a few villagers or npcs living there, like the islanders in older games

Feel free to reblog and add any more of your own ideas or tag your favs :)

-and then a figure in the shadow catches it
-GUESS WHO GUYS
-that’s right
-it’s STEEEEVE
-and the most important takeaway
-CAP. HAS. A. BEARD.
-I REPEAT. CAP HAS A BEARD.
-NOT A FULL GROWN EVANS BEARD.  But enough.
-I probably missed stuff
-but I was a little overwhelmed

I got to the convention center last night at 10 pm (panel started at 10:30 am).  I slept on the concrete floor in line (inside, thankfully).  It. Was. All. Worth. It.

GUYS GUYS GUYSS!! NEW ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!!

Life is like a hurricane here in… modern-day America. But in Duckburg, it’s a veritable storm of fun, adventure, and d-d-d-danger for fans awaiting Disney XD’s summer revival of DuckTales, the beloved ‘80s cartoon about Donald Duck’s nephews and their wild excursions with great-uncle Scrooge McDuck (voiced by Doctor Who’s David Tennant).Premiering in August, the series has been carefully crafted as a familiar reboot albeit with contemporary comedy updates to the Disney Afternoon original. “One of the things we always loved about the old show was that it was this family of adventurers, but the emphasis in every episode had always been on the adventure and plotline,” says co-producer Francisco Angones. “The basic conceit of growing our show was that this is a big blended family of adventurers, so it should feel like a combination of Indiana Jones and a blended Arrested Development-style family sitcom where every character has a different relationship to one another.”The revival sticks to its adventure-of-the-week DNA, but with a hint of season-long serialization — one big mystery of the first season involves a decade-old family secret about why Scrooge and Donald stopped spelunking together — as well as sharpened characterization for nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie (Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan). “Since everyone always says ‘Huey, Dewey, and Louie’ in that exact order, we decided to make that the birth order, and by defining that, we were able to assign traits that fit,” says executive producer Matt Youngberg. “So, Huey’s the oldest, a little more responsible, a little bit brainy. Dewey wants to stand out, and wants to break out of being labeled as just one of a set of three. And Louie is happy being the youngest child — he can slip under the radar.”Joining the pack (though decidedly not the Quack Pack), expect significantly more screen time for little Webby (Kate Micucci), Scrooge’s niece-by-affection, whom Youngberg says has “a stronger and more unique voice than she ever had before.” Angones adds, “We almost never say ‘the nephews’ or ‘the boys’ — she’s a crucial part of the adventuring team, and they really are this big, weird family. If Huey has Scrooge’s brains, Dewey has Scrooge’s guts, and Louie has Scrooge’s love of treasure, Webby has Scrooge’s heart.”The population of Duckburg doesn’t stop there. Not even close. In addition to previously announced treats like Beck Bennett’s Launchpad McQuack and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Gizmoduck, the city is thriving with new and familiar characters — so let’s cannonball into some exclusives.

Donald Duck (Tony Anselmo)
Expect to see a lot more of this world-class walking temper tantrum in the new reboot, which bumps Donald Duck up to main cast status. “He’s been a single parent obsessively taking care of the boys, and he’s a little bit overprotective and doesn’t want to take a lot of risks, whereas so much of Scrooge’s success is based on the fact that he’s willing to take risks,” says Angones. “In our world, about 10 years ago, Scrooge and Donald used to go on these big, crazy, rip-roaring adventures, and then they stopped talking to each other, to the point where when we start our show, Huey, Dewey, and Louie don’t even know that the richest duck in the world and this legendary explorer is their great uncle.” By the end of the first episode, Donald reluctantly moves his whole family in with Scrooge, but maintains some degree of his own independence — by keeping his houseboat in the pool.

Gladstone Gander (Paul F. Tompkins)
Few things can unite Scrooge and Donald like a shared nemesis, and we find that in Gladstone Gander, a dandy old character who always irked Donald and now gets under Scrooge’s feathers, too. Angones says, “The great thing about Gladstone is that since Donald is fundamentally unlucky, Gladstone is supernaturally lucky, and so Scrooge and Donald can both agree that they hate Gladstone because he does nothing and gets everything.” (Also worth hating: Gladstone’s father’s name is Goosetave. GOOSETAVE.)

Gyro Gearloose (Jim Rash)
You’ll notice Scrooge’s in-house mad scientist has gotten a fairly hipster makeover, but neither his wild inventions nor vocal exclamations (by Community’s Jim Rash) are any less manic. While his intern Fenton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) moonlights as local superhero Gizmoduck, presumable fan-favorite Gyro Gearloose keeps the spirit of DuckTales’ crazy super-science alive.

Goldie O’Gilt (Allison Janney)
Returning as Scrooge’s longtime paramour is Goldie O’Gilt, a fellow adventurer who has a curious relationship with old McDuck. “In our adaptation, Scrooge is more of an adventure junkie than a gold addict, so we kept saying, ‘Well, if Scrooge is like Batman, then Goldie should be like Catwoman,’” says Angones. “She’s equally adventurous, every bit Scrooge’s equal, and he hates and loves that. They have this amazingly contentious relationship that’s been going on ages and ages, spanning back to the Gold Rush days.” Plus, the producers say it was David Tennant who geeked out the most about Janney joining the cast: “He heard us play a line she had recorded and he said, ‘That’s C.J. Cregg!‘”Ma Beagle (Margo Martindale) and the Beagle Boys (Eric Bauza)
The perennially annoying villains are back in full force to block Scrooge’s adventures, with beloved character actress Margo Martindale on hand to voice the maniacal matriarch of the family of genuinely idiotic criminals. Big fans will note that they actually look like dogs this time. Relatively

Flintheart Glomgold (Keith Ferguson)
One of Scrooge’s wealthy equals in Duckburg is Scottish showman Flintheart Glomgold, whom Youngberg describes as “this kind of go-go ‘80s billionaire who made all his money from branding and getting his face on every storefront.” Angones says, “Glomgold is bigger, faster, and cheaper. An in-joke we had for him was that originally in the comics, he was South African, and then they made him Scottish in [the original] DuckTales, so we really leaned into that and decided that when Glomgold saw that Scrooge was a Scottish billionaire, he decided to be the cheap knock-off. More Scottish and even richer.

”Mark Beaks (Josh Brener)
The Silicon Valley actor adds fresh blood to the echelon of wealthy ducks that dominate the city. “We had a bunch of old money billionaires — Scrooge is the oldest money, this billionaire of the industrial revolution, and we have Glomgold — so we included somebody who’s representative of today’s billionaires, which is the tech industry billionaire,” says Youngberg. “Mark Beaks doesn’t care as much about money as he cares about status and being buzzworthy and how many followers he has.” Angones adds, “Josh Brener was so incredibly on all the time, selling and pitching. He’s a character who’s so broad and over the top, you love to be annoyed by him.

DuckTales premieres on Disney XD this August.

How long have you been planning for Coulson to be the Ghost Rider – and what was Clark Gregg’s reaction to finding out that news?

Jeffrey Bell: To say he was happy, it would be an understatement.
Jed Whedon: I think what he said when we told him was, “I didn’t think I could geek out more,” but he was like, “It seems I can.”
Jeffrey Bell: Yeah, that was what he said. [x]
