gears of the heart

“We hold our rifles in missing hands. We stand tall on missing legs. We stride forward on the bones of our fallen. Then, and only then, are we alive. This "Pain” is ours and no one else’s. A secret weapon we wield, out of sight. We will be stronger than ever. For our peace… Still, It doesn’t feel like this is over…“

A lot of you guys wanted to see Honorary Chocobro Sora in an Assassin costume… Here he is! :D

Differences in coping with killing one’s mentor

Big Boss: I’m going to remain on the battlefield and spend the rest of my life in bloody revenge, fighting against the world that killed her.

Solid Snake: I’m going to go to Alaska and hang out with some dogs.

Big Boss: I’ll recruit everyone I meet into my own inescapable, unstoppable war machine that’ll set a precedent that will expand across the entire world.

Solid Snake: Like, a lot of dogs.

Big Boss: No greater cause, no ideology. Nothing but warfare for its own sake.

Solid Snake: Dogs are great.

What? It’s not like I camp out in the hanger in case Amanda or Cayde say things about each other and that it has finally paid off.

“Amanda Holliday is a rapscallion and a liar, don’t listen to a thing she says about me. Especially if it’s about me and a…certain queen of hearts.”  - Cayde 6

“To everyone else, Cayde’s this hard case always going on about treasure. I’ve always known him as a big old softie. I dunno why. Maybe I remind him of someone he used to know?” - Amanda Holliday

I’ve never played a Kingdom Hearts game outside of the GBA one but every time I take a cursory glance at it, it just seems like this insane melange of bad ideas.

Like, crossing over Final Fantasy and Disney cartoons already seems like a silly idea, but to make the story deathly serious is incredibly silly.

Then, they gave KH a story so convoluted that kids who like Disney cartoons couldn’t possibly follow it, released the story completely out of order, and released it across nearly two decades of different video game systems.

And every game holds important plot information, so if you skip even one you’re gonna miss something important. Even the phone games.

I’m incredibly impressed with how the Kingdom Hearts HD Collections attempt to put all of the Kingdom Hearts lore in a comprehensible package. Even then, each HD collection has like five games and two CGI movies per collection. Who has time for all of that? Why did they make it that convoluted to begin with?

Metal Gear Solid, a series known for being convoluted and hard to follow, only has six canon games you need to play to understand everything. 1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and V. Play all six of those games in release order and you’ll understand Metal Gear Solid.

But with Kingdom Hearts, it’s like “play these fifteen games, chronological or release order doesn’t matter, and watch these three movies summarizing the events of pre-smartphone phone games, and MAYBE you’re SORTA understand what’s going on in our game about Mickey Mouse.”

Don’t act like you don’t recognize him, KH2 crew. You don’t forget this kind of suffering.

Carry these words for me.
Life tasted sweet,
It let me live,
It let me breathe.
