My mommy is in town this weekend (hence the treats I’ve been receiving). We made nachos with guac and salsa fresca for lunch. Yummm. The nachos are Daiya pepperjack shreds, sliced black olives, pickled jalapenos, tomatoes, and onions. I just ran into my old manager at the Asian market today and he was like “You have to come back. It’s decided” hhhmmm decisions.
Don’t do it! Fresh avocado is one of my favorite summer ingredients to use. Slice it up on a sandwich, put it in a salad, make some killer dip, etc. It has such a creamy and refreshing flavor.
For some reason, I’ve seen a lot of fast food joints add avocado to their menus this summer, and they’ve tricked me into buying it.
Subway charges you an extra $2 to add avocado to your footlong sub and I figured I might as well try it out, I was having a super craving for that glorious green stuff. Too bad it actually tasted like pureed vomit.
Tonight I tried a avocado chicken sandwich from Denny’s. First mistake was going to Denny’s, second mistake was assuming they knew how to serve fresh avocado. This sandwich was an abomination. I paid $8 plus tax and tip for a sandwich that was covered in bits of month old green mush, and my stomach paid the price.
I guess the moral of the story is, don’t ever, ever, ever, ever, ever trust any fast food or late night restaurant to serve fresh avocado. Don’t buy into the craze! Don’t pay the extra cash for this false promise of glorious guacamole… you will pay the price later.
