While ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ is a forbidden song for listening because I’ll cry every time, 'Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting’ will always remind me of 'spy-husbands-dancing(fighting)-scene’.
Drawing off another post I cant find anymore, the only people “villainizing” Allura is yourselves. Things haven’t really changed in fandom: We have a poc lady character who has bias and prejudice in contrast to her normally loving and protective nature; sometimes that bias influences her decisions and it makes her slow to see the good in people who have been, historically, bad, and slow to see the bad in her own race which she sees as inherently good. Please note, while Allura is brown, the rest of the Alteans? Come in all colours. There’s no coding of the Altean people as any specific earth race. Hell, they have British-sounding accents but people tend to ignore that earth connection.
But instead of the old days where people would blame and hate the character, the viewers instead are blaming the writers: this character behaves in a way that makes them dislike them but, they can’t dislike them because that would make them the racist ones (because you are fundamentally no longer allowed to dislike characters of colour). Ergo, they just must have be written in a such a way that makes them feel like that. Because if you cant dislike characters of colour because in this shallow internet culture that’s racist in of itself, then you have to demand that that character is not written in a way that you could dislike.
In other words its the viewers who are still holding female & brown characters to a high standard of moral, mary/gary stu perfection rather than accepting that female characters and characters of colour can have flaws and still be good. This is fairly in line with Tumblr culture and its demands we never do anything “”””wrong””””” and that there’s only one correct way to be a good person.
You can tell when a story cares about its characters and Voltron loves and revolves around Allura: that’s obvious. Viewers are the ones demanding she be written “perfectly”, they’re the ones who don’t like that she was written to have flaws just like every other character in the show.
If you’re seeing Allura as evil and unredeemable that’s because of your bias not because of the writing.
A sketch from Valentine’s day that I didn’t color until now, and in which tried to play around with camera angles - and failed miserably :,D Also breaking the tradition of Ash with a box and turned the tables this time with Gary returning the favour for once~ (This wasn’t originally supposed to be filled with sakura-like as I tried to do snow and bushes, but then the pic felt it wasn’t gay enough and took control, oops)
