gardenerism

Gardenerism was created after two drawings titled Pharmatopia and Pharmacopoeia which were laid down as the beginnings of how i perceive the products in our lives and how they may affect our development, I wanted to create a kaleidoscopic vision of opportunity and choice, something that has been ingrained in our lives. The way i chose the products started from picking items that could be vital for the well being of a child in poverty, water, food, pain killers, medicine, as the circle widens the items become more obscure, more banal, more everyday. Gardenerism has simply become a grander extension of this, showing over a hundred products circling around a new born baby.

Each item is hand drawn with coloured pencils averaging about 1.5 cm in width.

Gardenerism is on exhibition at The LAB Miami Dec 7th - Jan 7th.

GARDENERISM PRINT RELEASE

Tomorrow will see the release of three prints with the awesome company 1XRUN

Gardenerism, Pharmatopia & Pharmacopoeia will be available at a very affordable price. All three are Limited Edition, signed & numbered and printed on 330gsm Fine Art Paper with Archival pigments.

“The Gardenerism series is a collection of ongoing drawings, they are consumerist mandalas, they resemble the wheel of life for the western world. The objects that consume our lives from the day we are born are both sustaining and destructive, and as i have portrayed in pharmacopoeia (which literally means Drug-making), consumerism might have brought us our medicine and food to help our children grow, but it has also brought beer, liquor, whiskey, gin, a cornucopia of alcohol to consume, and a wheel of unhappiness, ever rotating.

They are also inspired by the dead butterfly and fly paintings by Damien Hirst, in addition to the Buddhist mandalas. The Gardenerism drawings are basically a critique on our dependency of consumerism. Each product, with it’s profound purpose and meaning rotates around the new born baby, ready to begin it’s life and it’s relationship with these objects. ”

This will be the only time i will be releasing prints of these three drawings and in addition to the print release there are 3 original drawings for sale, two of which already made in 2013 also at a very affordable price!
