ganesh immersion

The receding monsoon marks the beginning of the long Indian Festive season. Different gods are worshipped in different festivals. The season begins with the festival of Lord Ganesh, the deeply loved elephant headed god. It is celebrated for ten long days, with the idols being immersed in the sea on the last day. Herewith some of the images I have captured on the recently concluded Ganesh Festivals with my Leica X2.  Each of the frames appears so real that it will open a dialogue with you on the rich Indian culture. The moods & moments are captured in a span of a few hours on the immersion day.

DAY 2106

Jalsa, Mumbai           Jan 20/21,  2014           Mon/Tue  1:17 am

Rajesh Kejriwal …. 50 years !! Congratulations, greetings and all happiness on this historic accomplishment. Your birthday wishes come from us all and shall ever remain with you .. love

Its been a while, since I shook my body to dance .. on camera ! Now at 71, it does seem incongruous .. but truth be told .. its exceedingly enjoyable, so long as the number of takes are within tolerable limits .. !!

Its Ganesh the choreographer, the one that has created some of the most unusual moves in the movies, and the one whose dance moves look incredibly graceful, despite his enormous girth … !

At the shoot for ‘Bhoothnath Returns’ he informs me he was in the 'group’ dancers for one of the songs in 'Agnepath’, when I am taking the Ganesh ji for immersion ! Today he is an accomplished director of dance, has directed a film and produced it, opened a dance stage and a kind of school for training and continues to devour tons and tons of 'kaaju’ and 'rewari’ and 'gajak’ !!

In the Film Industry when you possess talent and drive, miracles do happen, fortunes change overnight, unreachable skies do come within reach, and adulation is unbounded !!

Equally, here the ratio of success, is paled by the ratio of failures. Those that linger on and persevere, find space again. Those that give up the battle, lie back on proverbial rocking chair and watch the world go by. That is not too unexpected an occurrence .. it happens to the best of us !! Much like sportsman our time periods are limited and dependent on your physical appearance and attributes !!

The one to watch out for is the defiance and the belief that all shall be as it was in the times of glory. Glory shall evade you, recognition shall be scarce, importance shall be limited or not at all, and ego shall not permit you to accept or even attempt to acknowledge, the one that takes your place.

Learn to accept then that the face of fortune has now been made opaque. That it is dripping age-folds cosmetically - each one screaming with exclamation, the limits are over ! Learn to live with it. Your turn has expired as has your term. Live and survive in the glory of your own works of the past. Question not nor explain nor insist on the continuance of what 'had been’ to become a 'has been’. It has happened to all others, it shall and will happen to you as well. You are no different.

My affection to all .. with immense love and care …

Amitabh Bachchan

ps : Celebrating 9 million on FaceBook ! Large .. but not large enough !!
