galesnjak island

The isle of love

Located off the Adriatic coast of Croatia near the town of Turanj, this heart shaped island is called Galesnjak. At a kilometre and a half long and a mere 36 metres above sea level at its tallest point, this privately owned paradise was snapped by a high resolution satellite. Currently uninhabited, the only known human presence on the island consists of three Illyrian burial mounda and some very old remnants of fortifications. Its shape was first noted By Napoleon’s mapmaker Charles Beaupre, who included it in his military map of the Dalmatian coast. I couldn’t find any reference for what the strips are, if anyone knows please let us know.

Shame we can’t celebrate our love there, but the photo is good enough for me…
