THE WEAKERTHANS - WATERMARK (found on LEFT AND LEAVING, Label: G7 Welcoming Committee Records, 2000 /re-issue Epitaph, 2007)
As most of you know, there are records that bring you back to a certain place and time and this is one of them. I was 18 when I listened to this and it was my freshmen year in college, I had no cares and I was super happy. This record, Left and Leaving, brings me there (despite the lyrical content.)
I always loved the one lyric, “I’ve got this store bought way of saying I’m okay and you learned how to cry in total silence.” It always seemed to capture the exact feeling in the beginning of the end of relationships. Harsh reality sung so pleasantly.
Propagandhi - Rock For Sustainable Capitalism (Potemkin City Limits, 2005)
“Music’s power to describe, compel, renew… It’s all a distant second to the offers you can’t refuse. Anyone remember when we used to believe that music was a sacred place and not some fucking bank machine?”
