Recommendations for good soviet-era cartoons?

i should write a masterpost later.

Film, Film, Film!

Series of slapstick gags celebrating the ordeals of movie-making, gorgeous experimental artwork - futurist decor and Escher architecture and more.

I Shall Give you a Star

Yeah, the same joke four times. I don’t care. I love this.

The Snow Queen

An actually accurate adaptation of the Snow Queen. Wonderful movie.

Same director as Film Film Film. Preserves Winnie’s irreverent egotistic jerk personality. This is a pattern with Soviet adaptations of the same original story as Disney: more faithful and usually strictly superior.

Treasure Island

This is less of a movie and more of an experience. Boy, the voice acting alone. The live action scenes.

Soviet cartoons were never very rich in anthro characters, so I guess kids had to do with real pantheras. Yeah, Bagheera is a girl here because reasons, and for yet more reasons a thot. Kaa is also excellent rather than a dumb, evil sidekick. Good cartoon nonetheless, strictly superior to the Jungle Book and covers more material.

if you like it, check out The Golden Antelope and The Yellow Stork.

Once upon a dog

ima sing

what? again?

drop by if you need anything

About Sidorov Vova

if you want a 10 minute explanation of Russian, gods below accept my sacrifice for saying this phrase, toxic masculinity, look no further. This is how people see our army and why they support the draft. I hate this cartoon. Watch it nonetheless.

The Adventures of Vasya Kurolesov

good shit. no further context needed

The Three From Prostokvashino

a whole steamboat named in his honor? must have been a great man. unlike you.

good shit. hunt down better subtitles if capable because this cartoon needs a very, very careful translation

The Mystery of the Third Planet

nice children’s sci fi

The Firing Range

anti-war short story adaptation. Looks like cheap CGI, but it’s all done by hand via the photographica technique.

There Will Come Soft Rains

see above but this one is ray bradbury and even more depressing

Icarus and the Wise Men

Not actually about Icarus, but about the myth about Icarus, see.

Yesteryear Snowfall

the A E S T H E T I C

There are, of course, many more.

Fall Back Into The Future With This Steampunk Bar

How would you like to belly up to this unique bar and order a drink? The Romanian steampunk pub, Joben Bistro, takes this trend and runs full steam ahead with it. From the first step into the bistro, you are whisked away into the retro-futuristic romance of the steampunk scene. The pub itself is a fantastical work of art that leaves the time-travel seeking patron in want of nothing.

Dystopian futures and science fiction are nothing new; these themes have existed for more than a hundred years and in nearly as many incarnations. One of the fastest growing offshoots of this is Steampunk, a science fiction and fantasy sub genre featuring technology based on the 19th century harnessing of steam power.

while the celebrations start early in hollywood with stars having to prepare for various home halloween parties as well as those held by large names like justjared, crowned has been throwing itself into the hectic scheduling for the past thirteen years. on their fourteenth annual halloween party, they decided to go the extra mile. globally known, the famously haunted queen mary sits rocking gently on baby waves and has for decades. with ghost stories ranging from children to chefs to war soldiers, the idea must cross ones mind during that party if that brush against the back of their neck was a passerby or something a little less corporeal.renting out most of the boat for the privacy of their attendees, the du haven family has spared no expense with this party. costumes are required, and this years this will be ALIENS. matching the theme is not required, but what sounds like more fun than futuristic decorations inside an almost century old haunted boat?

THE CATCH: the stars can’t leave. there is a party, yes, but it’s a lock in and no one gets to leave the boat until the next morning because what says fun like staying in a haunted boat with hundreds of interaction stories and you can’t leave? there WILL be a costume competition, so please make sure to send your costumes in to the GOSSIP BLOG if you’d like to participate and post them on the dash as well. you don’t have to fit into the alien theme, but that doesn’t mean you have to completely forego it either. costumes are up to player. if they’d like to fit the theme, they can. if it doesn’t fit what you want for your char, there is no dress code so don’t feel pressured. can’t wait to see all that you guys bring to this event and have fun !! tag any sorts of posts that are applicable to this event with lhq:event004
