Something Only They See
Years have passed, goals have been gained, and as similar as he was to the boy of his high school years, he was also completely different. He’s learned to compromise (somewhat), he’s learned to not be afraid to lose (even less than somewhat), and he’s learned how to carve out a huge piece of his life to fit someone else in it (a lot).
Most of all, Katsuki has learned to care a little bit more- to look at someone else’s face and see exactly what lay underneath the veneer presented. Though, honestly, he’d only cultivated that skill for one other person and she was walking through their shared apartment door two hours late without the usual spring in her step. Even her permanently flushed cheeks seemed paler. She called out an absent-minded ‘I’m home’ as she toed out of her sneakers.
Katsuki set down the phone he hadn’t been obsessively glaring at for the past two hours and shoved his hand in his pockets.
“You didn’t float your phone into fucking oblivion again, did you?” he asked shortly, trying to sound more angry than worried.
Ochako glanced up sharply, eyes blinking wide, guileless, and bewildered. The bewilderment faded the more her big, brown eyes scanned over him- the casual suit, the yellow tie she’d bought him last year, the almost tidy style to his rat’s nest hair. Her already pale face blanched to ashen, pupils dilating to pinpricks as guilt struck her like a blow to the face.
“Oh no,” she gasped, straightening to her fullest height and covering her mouth with her hands. “I totally forgot! I can’t believe I forgot!”
Tears were brimming the edges of her lashes and that’s when he knew. Katsuki had known since their first year in UA that Ochako was bright, bubbly, and annoying cheerful, but she wasn’t a pushover. Her reasons for being a hero were different from his, so vastly different, but no less important. She would throw herself recklessly into harm’s way to attain her goal, just like him. Only being K.O.’d would hold her down. So, Katsuki knew that Uraraka Ochako was not fragile.
Chat Noir isn’t going to lie, he doesn’t know how timelines work, and the idea of time traveling and all the rippling effects of it will make his brain hurt if he thinks to hard.
Time travel the future affects the outcome of the past which alters the future which alters the next past which happens on and on and on and on forever and he’s not sure when exactly timelines ‘switch’ maybe when you go back in time (again?)
If you go back in time when you go back to the future would you be back in your old timeline? Or would you stay in the one you’re in? Is time travel actually just jumping between the infinite alternate universes? If you go back in time does your future self replace the past and vice versa or does your past self simply meld with you and cease to exist? If you were to replace yourself in the past and you went to the future when the past catches up with the future would you-
His head hurts.
So he stops thinking about it and focuses on the task at hand.
Well he’s technically in her hands but it doesn’t matter because right now he’s looking at a short haired terrifyingly strong Marinette Dupain-Cheng. She’s carrying him bridal style like it’s no problem, which is sending his heart into spirals.
She’s straight up muscular, he can feel the firmness of her arms and stomach and the way she’s filled out a bit more. If her arms are more defined then so are her legs and likely her butt. He can’t see it right now-
“Future kitty told me what you’re thinking right now… and if you try I’ll break your nose.”
Chat flinches at being caught and looks at her knowing smirk, her threat is actually… really… hot?
Is he okay?
“Chat told me about those thoughts too so shut it.” Marinette isn’t actually angry. Just smiling down at him as though it’s no issue that he’s thinking terrible things about her.
“Can-can you put me down?” he asks quietly.
‘Please don’t please don’t please don’t.’
“Do you actually want me to?” she has laughter in her eyes and he quietly curses himself for being so honest in the future.
‘No no no no no no no no.’
She sets him down and he takes a moment to make sure his legs will support him. They’re shaky, but functional and he finally looks up at her. She smiles, then pinches his nose and rolls her eyes,
“God I miss when Chat used to blush like this, now I have to try too hard.”
Chat tries not to think about what ‘trying too hard’ might entail.
Marinette leaves him alone then, walking into her kitchen with a grace that doesn’t escape him. She seems so confident, so sure of herself that Chat has no doubt Paris is even safer now than it was with her currently… years ago. Then?
He stops thinking about it.
She does something in the kitchen, then comes out with two glasses of water and sets one down on the coffee table.
“You can detransform you know… I know who you are.” she says, eyeing him with a barely subdued grin.
“No.” he says automatically. The second skin is the constant assurance that he needs in a situation as stressful as this one.
Marinette nods, and takes a sip of her water staring out the window.
“I know he’s okay, but I’m frustrated I can’t do anything.”
It surprises Chat that Ladybug worries about him at all, like of course she does now… (then?) But he never thought he’d see bags under her eyes or lines on her face, or the way she anxiously strokes her glass with her thumb.
He wonders if older Chat’s hands could fit around hers, and stroke his thumb against the back of her hand to soothe her worries.
When he tries their hands are about the same size but the feeling is conveyed because the smile she gives him is absolutely heart melting.
This is for all of the Momstique fans out there. And to the Kitty fans, I’m so sorry for giving you a cute moment between her and Kurt and then pulling the rug from under you. I promise that future comics with Kitty will make up for this.
This comic was partially inspired by a scene in X-Men Forever #17 in which Mystique disguises herself as a newspaper photographer to snap a photo of her children, Nightcrawler and Rogue, without them being aware it was her.
For the record, I don’t condone Mystique’s behavior at all, but it does kinda tug at my heartstrings in a way because she has to disguise herself in order to get photos of her son. And before you ask, Kurt didn’t notice the change in “Kitty’s” eyes because he was more focused on making sure both his face and medal were in the frame.
X-men movies get a total reboot. The Phoenix and Jean Grey's storyline and character aren't slaughtered. A proper Days of Future Past movie with Kitty Pryde as the protagonist. Professor Xavier is a jerk. Wolverine isn't the focus of every movie and scene. Emma Frost is respected and not just a hot villain they use once and forget about. Illyana Rasputin and Kitty are dating. Mystique isn't naked all the damned time for some reason and she is definitely Kurt's mother.
Your headcanon: How will Red and Kitty react when Jackie and Hyde get engaged? How involved with they get with Jackie and Hyde's wedding plans?
When Jackie and Hyde announced their engagement to Red and Kitty, the
reactions from The Formans would be very different from the reactions that they
had when finding out about Eric and Donna’s engagement in Season 5. Mostly
because Hyde and Jackie would have waited until after high school, possibly
even after some college, and already started building their lives and careers
when they finally got engaged.
Jackie and Hyde would walk into the kitchen, hand in prepared to break the
“Red, Mrs. Forman,” Hyde began squeezing Jackie’s hand slightly. “Jackie and
I have something to tell you…”
“We’re engaged!” Jackie interrupted with a squeal of happiness, raising her
hand up in front of her to show off her sparkly new engagement ring.
Filled with surprise and all kinds of happiness, Kitty’s eyes widened and
her hands flew up to cover her open mouth. Meanwhile, Red lowered his newspaper
revealing to the young couple the frown wrinkled onto his forehead.
“You two dumbasses weren’t engaged already?” he wondered out loud.
“Red,” Kitty scolded, not finding any amusement in her husband’s joke.
Kitty would then jump up from her seat and giggling and crying happy tears
as she pulled Hyde and Jackie into big hugs both alone and together. She’d soon
start breaking out into wedding talk and asking a million questions about the
wedding and how Steven had popped the question; all things Jackie was more than
happy to answer.
And while Kitty and Jackie are discussing wedding plans, Red congratulates Hyde
with a handshake and pat on the shoulder, commenting to him, ‘It’s about damn time, son.’ Hyde would smile
in agreement. And when he went to congratulate Jackie, he surprised everyone by
not acting like a tree when she hugged him and instead actually hugged her
Red and Kitty would be happy and excited for the couple, so much so that
Kitty would constantly refer to Jackie as ‘your fiancée’ to Hyde and vice versa.
Red and Kitty would be pretty involved in Jackie and Hyde’s wedding plans.
Kitty more than Hyde. She would be there to help Jackie whenever Donna was too
busy or got tired of Jackie’s constant wedding talk. Jackie and Hyde would plan
to pay for their wedding themselves but with WB already paying for their
honeymoon, and wanting to contribute something Red and Kitty would offer to pay
for the wedding flowers. Hyde and Jackie knowing how much the flowers could
cost would be resistant at first but eventually agree, not wanting to offend
The Formans after everything they’d already done for them.
