furever homes

Okay, so this is my only personal post for now, but this is what I’ve been up to! I signed a contract with a local animal rescue called SmartPaws and have been working as a foster parent for neonatal kittens (the most vulnerable and commonly euthanized demographic of shelter animals). The first pic to the left is me with Lil Toot/ Tallulah soon after she was brought to me, and the right is what she looks like now! They were all sick and very small for three weeks old, but that little one was particularly sickly and was actually cold and unresponsive when she was found on the side of the road.

Underneath is her sister Doot (the calico) and her brother Scooter (the smooth winky guy on the right). They’re funny, sweet, and endlessly energetic! And I’m excited to announce that all three of them have already found furever homes. ^-^

Let me know if you guys want more updates on this litter, as I’m always happy to spread the word about fostering and the good that it does for kittens who would otherwise be euthanized within a few hours of coming to a shelter. The best news? Most shelters will actually pay for all your supplies and the vet bills for your kittens!

Edit: the picture of Doot on the bottom left is her with my mom. She’s so in love with these kittens, and she gets excited every day to hang out with them. <3

Sweet Miss Arya. I don’t know how she has not found her furever home yet! If you are in the Oklahoma area (specifically Norman) and are looking for a sweet, loving, and energetic pup, this girl is for you! She deserves such a good home. We pulled her out of Norman Animal Welfare and she has been waiting for her furever family ever since. If you are interested in Arya, or would like some more info about her, please contact me ! - Taylor (@kenneltechlife is my rescue / doggy daycare blog)

“Dander,” Levi says, recalling the name on the placard hanging on the wall outside of the room. “Why’s she called that?”

“Well,” Eren, the man who has been introducing him to all the cats at the shelter for the past half hour, says, “she sheds. A lot.”

Levi hums. He can handle that. He holds out his hand and the cat sniffs it, nudges his fingers. Levi starts to pet her head.

Then she bites him.

“And she’s kind of feisty.”

Eren laughs awkwardly, voice dying off as Levi stares at him. He clears his throat.

“We can go look at the other cats again.”

The other cats. The nice ones. The cute one. The friendly ones.

Levi looks at Dander. The difficult one. The odd one. The temperamental one. The one that no one wants.

He knows the feeling.

“I’ll take her.”

“Dander. I’ll take her.”

“Really?” Eren’s face lights up. “That’s great! Isn’t that great, Dander?”

Dander blinks at him and flicks her tail.

“She thinks it’s great, too.”

Levi doubts that, but he isn’t going to burst the guy’s bubble.

“Alright,” Eren says, “we’ll just need to fill out some paperwork. It’ll take a few days to process all your information and make sure you’re able to–”

“Oh,” Levi interrupts, digging in the pocket of his coat. “Here.”

He hands Eren several papers that, in hindsight, he probably should have put in a folder rather than crumpling them and stuffing them in his jacket. It’s an official note, an allowance really, from his therapist to get an animal to keep at home, to help him. He’s skeptical it will actually work, but he’s willing to give it a shot. Hange suggested it, both as a professional and as a friend, and he values their opinion as both.

“Sorry. Should have given it to you before.”

“You’re…” Eren begins.

Freakish? Pitiful? A waste of space?

“…lucky,” he finishes. “This will speed things up. We can get you squared away within the hour. But you still have to fill out the paperwork. Unfortunately I can’t spare you the boring stuff.”

Eren smiles at Levi and Levi tries to smile back, though it probably looks more like a grimace. Whatever face he ends up making, Eren doesn’t seem bothered by it. He opens the door of Dander’s room, allowing Levi to exit first before following behind and shutting the door behind them. He fiddles with Dander’s placard, switching the removable sign under her name that says ‘I’m looking for my purrfect match’ to ‘I’ve found my furever home’.

“So there’s no confusion if someone else comes to visit,” he explains and leads Levi back to the lobby.

It only takes about twenty minutes to get everything in order. They send him home with a few days worth of food and some of Dander’s favorite toys to get him started, and Dander herself in a cardboard kitty crate that, judging by the way it tilts back and forth regularly, she is eager to get back out of.

Levi stops and turns, watches as Eren runs across the parking lot. He hands Levi a piece of paper with a number on it.

“This is my cell. Call me anytime.”

Levi raises eyebrow at him.

“About the cat.”

“Oh. Yeah.”

“Or anything really,” he says as he walks backwards towards the shelter. “Keep in touch, Levi.” Eren waves before turning and rushing into the building.

Levi waves back long after Eren is out of sight. It’s stiff and Levi pulls his arm back against his side almost immediately.

Dander meows at him loudly, her pink nose sticking out of one of the holes in the crate.

“Right. So am I.” Levi puts Dander in his car then gets in himself. “Let’s go home.”

My boyfriend and I were looking to take the next step in our relationship, so we planned on adopting a dog. We looked on Petfinder for months and months, but nothing seemed to fit our situation–we were waiting for the perfect pet. One day we spent all day visiting animal shelters–we started in St. Cloud and ended up in Golden Valley at the Animal Humane Society. We spent some time looking at cats, rabbits, and dogs.

As we came to the last kennel, we saw a somber dog with big brown eyes–we had never heard of a “Mountain Cur” or a “Black-mouthed Cur” before that day, and without knowing anything about that breed, we decided to pass. We stayed at the Animal Humane Society for a while longer–nearly all of the dogs already had a deposit on them (woo-hoo!), but it was a little sad, because we didn’t think we would be providing a furever home that day. For some reason, I felt like I needed to see that dog on the end with the big brown eyes again.

When we went back, he was gone. We decided to inquire, and of course, he was in a visitation room with another family. We waited about a half hour, and eventually got the opportunity to visit with this mysterious dog. He was extremely shy, and almost seemed afraid to be pet, but that didn’t stop us from trying to give him a little attention. I started to fall in love with him more and more every minute, even if he didn’t acknowledge me–it was the way he acted. He needed love, he needed a home. We were so nervous to bring home a dog that we knew nothing about, so we put down a deposit, just in case.

We spent the night researching and discussing the responsibilities and consequences that come with owning a dog. Somehow, we ended up at the Golden Valley Animal Humane Society immediately the next morning. Leif stole our hearts (snacks, blankets, socks, and spot on the bed), but he is now a part of our family, and we couldn’t be more thankful. He is extremely happy, active, loving, outgoing, and boy does he love it here! When Leif meets new dogs and people, they would never be able to tell that he was ever as shy as he was when we adopted him.

We are extremely grateful we had the opportunity to adopt a pet from Animal Humane Society, work with the people that we did, and gain the best fur baby on the planet! When we decide to adopt another, we know exactly where we are going. Thank you for everything Golden Valley Animal Humane Society!

Sweet, beautiful senior looking for love…

This 15 year old sweetheart deserves a home so bad, we don’t want her in a cage, can you offer a foster home or better yet a furever home??

Please share this beauty lots, we want her in a home ASAP!

Anyone who wants a sweet, gentle, friendly, affectionate cat who will have a conversation with you if you take the time to talk to her, who solicits petting and attention, and who has the wisdom of a senior, the looks of a fashion model, and has been treated for whatever ailed her and pronounced good to go!

Ebony is 15, spayed, vaccinated and felv/fiv negative. She will be a wonderful companion, not demanding, doesn’t need a circus to entertain her, has no known medical conditions and requires no special treatment or medication.

Meet Arnie

Arnie was rescued by Lina’s Cat rescue, one of the rescue centres i am sponsoring with my Christmas Boxes.

As you can see when Lina’s rescued Arnie he has not had the best start in life.

Arnie had an ulcerated eye, had problems walking, he was unable to use his back legs and for a while was unable to support his weight on his front legs.

Arnie’s rescuer did everything and gave him his eye drops, his antibiotics and hand fed him, but more importantly she gave him the love and time he needed, she gave him a chance at life.

All the work done and Arnie is now healthy and has been reserved and found a furever home to go too.

Arnie is amazing, but more importantly the work Lina’s cat rescue do by far is beyond amazing.

Arnie may have cost them hundreds of pounds, but look it is worth it.

Lina’s have advised me that they would love more toys and treats for the cats they are caring for as their priority is providing veterinary care, flea treatment, worming treatment the essentials to keep them healthy.

If you would like to help me help kittens and cats like Arnie, then please if you can i have a wishlist set up to help and i would be truly, truly grateful

Charity crochet and knits Christmas Boxes Wishlist

I see stories like this all the time and it breaks my heart, i am trying to provide as much as i can but my health is severely hindering me at the moment

Thank you for taking the time to read x

We found this girl abandoned at a cemetery on Christmas Eve, likely from a breeder who didn’t want her due to the cataract in her right eye. Thankfully we found her, are getting her the medical attention she needs, and we’re more than happy to welcome her to our Christmas Day celebrations. Next step: find her the perfect furever home. Just another day in the life of rescue.

And in the spirit of Christmas, her name shall be dubbed Noel. 🎄

This is my big, beautiful new baby Felix who is coming to live with me and my kitty Humphrey Haunted (who was born at Forest Lawn Cemtery) tonight.  He was found on the streets of Los Angeles late at night, dumped by some horrible lame person. He is about a year old, super affectionate, healthy and sweet and has been waiting for his FURever home for over a month now via an awesome rescue group called LuxePaws - I am sooooooo excited!   LOOK AT HIS FACE, OMGGGG!
