Hi! Love your content. I have a question for you. How would you describe the 104 corps laughs? I thought I saw an Anon asking, but now I'm curious. Have a nice day!

Yes, there was an anon asking, but I will answer if here for you! So to my dear anon, here you go!!

Eren: He has a very bright sounding laugh. It’s very full sounding, like you can actually hear the ‘ha’ sounds there, but it’s not fake in anyway. It’s so genuine. So pure. So joyful.

Mikasa: Soft and sweet. Ridiculously infection cause it’s so cute, but she doesn’t laugh all that often so it makes it even more adorable when it happens. When she starts laughing really hard, she ends up laughing silently.

Armin: Really light and happy. He’s got one of those laughs that’s unintentionally loud, but that’s what makes it adorable. His laugh is just so genuine and joyful, he can’t control it, and it’s precious.

The Lampmen

The Lampmen

Honestly, I’m not sure what we should call em. As far as the gentry are concerned they’re pretty innocuous. Not dangerous at all really, in fact they’re downright friendly, but they’re uh…

They’re odd, and I call them the Lampmen. They seem to like the name well enough. At the very least, I’ve not had anything bad happen to me so I guess it’s cool.

So The Lampmen. What are they? How do I know them on sight, and what to do?

Like…Ok. You ever walk somewhere dark on the green or the campus streets? Somewhere just off the beaten path, somewhere where the gentle green light of the lamps don’t reach? So You know, doing something unfathomably stupid?

Well ok, seriously don’t do that. But if you do happen to do it, you’ll probably see these guys. Tall, not unusually mind, but they’re puffy. Like…They look like they’re wearing one of those big warm sweater jackets and one of those heavy rain coats. You know the ones that look like you could dive into a pool and walk out dry? One of those deals, with sweats, and a pulled up hood.

Kind of moth like really.

Eh.

But anyway, you see these puffy looking dudes and they’ll just walk with you. It’s nothing fancy, and it ain’t threatening despite what you normally find in the off beaten dark spots, they just…Walk with ya. Chat a bit. Real light talk, what’re your classes, how ya doing, you hear what happened to those nice ladies on the corner? That sort of chattery.

Well, I say they walk with you but you walk with them. Don’t know how it happens, but inevitably you just sort of end up following them down the twisting streets and past a few odd cafes and eventually you find yourself back on the campus streets next to a streetlamp.

And then they’ll just stand there staring at the light til you’re out of sight. Like…Ok I know it’s kind of dumb but I thanked one because you know…Did me a solid. He(?) just sort of cooed at me and kept staring at the light and…That was it.

I’ve had this happen to me like ten times, because I am an idiot, and nothing seemed to happen to me.

I did however start seeing them everywhere. Like, I didn’t notice it before but they’re all around the street lamps when it gets dark.

Not all of the lamps.

Enough of them though.

So that’s neat but otherwise just one more thing on the campus. Here’s the thing though. You know those…Campus Parties. You know the big end of the year ones that tend to spring up right around finals.

Those ones.

Well I was out one night-Again I know it’s incredibly stupid- and well I very nearly got caught up in one. Would have been an interesting time to be sure but as I had only a pinch of salt and definitely nowhere near enough iron to rate anywhere near safe I figured I was going to have to hope I came back soon enough and in one piece.

Or!

I could do what I actually did, which was make the dumb mistake that would only of course get them all kinds riled up and fucking bolt like a rabbit off the beaten path and.

Look you can stop, I know exactly how stupid that was. I’d like to see you handle it when a party bus was headed your way laden to the gills with excitable gentlefolk.

And of course, I got lost. And of course, that really didn’t stop them. But bed made and panic high I just kept running until I didn’t.

I started to walk.

And next to me, of course, is one of these puffy dudes just chilling, ambling with me, chatting away about nothin. And after a while, I end up at a lamp, he’s staring at it transfixed, and I can see the sun rising and no party bus in sight.

I am almost certain they saved me. Gave a quick thanks, he cooed and…

Well that’s The Lampmen. I still don’t know what’s up.

IDK if you saw the post about how, before the Death Star plans were captured, the asset Bail was sending was *Leia herself* to Obi-Wan. But I'd like an AU based on that. No Death Star Plans, only a 19-year-old-girl strong in the Force, trying to beat the Empire.

She didn’t—

Luke cocked his head, watching the girl in white move through the marketplace. He couldn’t figure out what it was about her, why one minute he had been engrossed in Waing’s new shipment of power converters and the next he was staring at her, totally unable to tear his eyes away. He wasn’t entirely sure how he’d gone from one to the other, except he had, and now he was watching her. It was important he watch her, he knew it was important, though he couldn’t figure out how he knew that, or why.

It wasn’t that she stood out—sure, no one wore robes of that clean white, not unless they had a lot of slaves or droids to do the laundry for them, and yeah, she was the sort of pale you generally only saw in traders, who spent more time in artificial grav than sunslight. But she could be a water merchant’s daughter slumming it in Toshe, or an off-worlder, taking in the sights. (Not that they had many sights to see in Toshe, Luke thought with a snort.) And nobody else seemed to notice her; she stopped at Kinqua’s stall and dipped her fingers into the bowl Kinqua left out for tasting, and lifted it to her lips, licked the droplets away.

Luke had seen Kinqua casually lop off a child’s hand for that.

Skywalker,” Waing said, startling Luke out of his thoughts. “You made a decision? Or are you just going to keep feeling up my tech until it agrees to go home with you?”

“Cool your drives, Waing,” Luke said mildly, but he was still staring at the girl in white. She had two droids trundling after her, he realized belatedly—an astromech and a protocol droid, though he couldn’t make out what they were saying at this distance. Their lights were flashing, though, and he wished he could read visual binary.

“Oh, I see,” Waing said after a minute, and Luke could hear them smirking. “My tech isn’t all you’re hoping to take back to the Whitesun-Lars homestead.”

Luke felt his face go hot, and he forced himself to look back at Waing. They were smirking. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said coolly, but he couldn’t focus on the power converters anymore. The girl in white, had she—

“Pardon me.”

This close it was abundantly obvious that she wasn’t from Tatooine—no one from this planet carried that air of interestingness with them, like they had a secret that might change the whole course of your life. She must be an off-worlder. “I’m looking for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Do you know where I might find him? I was told he lives near here—”

“Old Ben?” Luke cut in, before Waing could answer. “Do you mean Old Ben?”

The girl in white looked at him for a long moment, and Luke felt the back of his neck heating up. “I don’t know,” she finally said. “Is he near here?”

“Oh, sure,” Luke laughed, more out of relief than anything else. “Old Ben’s just a few klicks from here, he lives near the western gorge—I could take you, if you want,” Luke said quickly, because she looked increasingly put-out, and he felt something in his chest twinge in answer to it.

But she shook her head. “Thank you for the offer, but this is a personal matter.”

“It’ll cost you serious credits if you charter a speeder,” Luke said. “I’m headed that way anyway, let me take you. And your droids. Really,” he said, because she still looked uncertain. “It’s no trouble.”

She looked at him for a long moment, and her dark eyes were very serious. (He liked her eyes, for no particular reason he could figure out.) “My name is Leia,” she finally said, sticking her hand out.

“Luke,” Luke laughed, taking it and shaking it. It was cool and smooth, and if he’d needed any confirmation she was from off-world, that was it. “Skywalker. My uncle owns a moisture farm in the eastern hemisphere.”

“I’m—not from around here,” she said, and Luke almost laughed because—well, obviously.

“Consider yourself lucky,” Luke said, and something of her tiredness and tightness (why did he know she was tired, down to her bones?) eased. She smiled back, a small smile. Luke counted it as a victory.

“I am C-3PO,” the protocol droid cut in, sticking his head between them as though it would stop them from looking at one another. He was burnished gold, and in the high sunslight it hurt to look at him. “And this is my companion, R2-D2.”

The astromech whistled a greeting, and Luke laughed. “Pleasure to meet—all of you. My speeder’s docked by the Ithorian, if you want…?”

“Hey, Skywalker, aren’t you going to buy anything?” Waing interrupted, and Luke winced, barely managing to tear his eyes away from Leia, who was still smiling, very slightly.

“Sorry, uh—maybe next week?” Luke offered lamely, but he was already ushering Leia and her droids away, and he could hear her laugh, very softly. (His chest fell too full, hearing it.)

It felt strange, formal and right, to help her into the speeder. Her hand in his was a kind of symmetry, inexplicable, the way he knew how a speeder was supposed to fit together, how a full tank of moisture sounded when you rapped it with a knuckle. Organic and totally without reason, their hands fitting together. She still hadn’t told him her surname, if she had a surname. Where she was from. What she was doing here. What her droids were doing here.

Luke couldn’t help but trust her utterly. Otherwise, why did her hand feel like that, resting in his?

What do you need to see Old Ben for?” Luke shouted over the rush of air around the speeder.

I told you,” Leia shouted back. The white hood she wore had fallen back, and her hair was dark. Even carefully styled, those loops over her ears, strands came loose, whipping around her face. “It’s personal!”

They stopped at the farm first, just to refuel and drop off the handful of things Luke did buy—rations, holonews downloads, some sucrose-candies for Aunt Beru. But when they touched down, Owen went white beneath his sunsburn, staring at Leia like she was a creature from another galaxy. “Your Highness,” he breathed, and Luke had to correct him, just an off-worlder looking for Old Ben; don’t pay her any mind. Look, Uncle Owen, I brought you your Almanac—

Leia was silent; picking at a loose thread in her white, white robes.

(Afterwards, she was silent, her arms crossed over her waist. They sped across the desert, which was gathering dark by the armful. “Sorry,” Luke said, trying to keep himself from shivering, “I know it gets cold at night.”

“It’s all right,” Leia said. “On—my planet, it snowed. We had mountains, and we would build whole castles out if it, out of snow. It was beautiful.”

“I’d like to see snow,” Luke said, but he thought it was lost in the sound of the speeder, because she didn’t reply.)

By the time they reached Old Ben’s place, it was dark enough for a lamp to be burning, the light spilling beneath the door and out the window. Luke watched as Leia knocked on the daub doorframe, shivering.

Still, it was worth staying just to watch the flicker of Old Ben’s expression from surprise to shock when he greeted her. He called her by a name that was definitely not ‘leia’ and Luke watched her shoulders hitch. “No,” Leia said finally. “I am Leia Organa, Princess of Alderaan. I am the daughter of Queen Breha Organa and Viceroy Bail Organa, and I am—I am here to beg your aid for the rebellion.”

Luke wasn’t so surprised that he didn’t notice Ben’s eyes cut to him, and then away.

“Princess,” Ben said finally, with an awful heaviness. Luke had brought him ration packs and listened to his stories he had never sounded like that before, like it was something awful and deep beyond saying. “If they sent you to find me, they must be very desperate.”

“No,” she said quickly, and Luke knew she was lying. “No, but—we need Jedi. We cannot go forward, we cannot fight, if the Force is not with us.”

This time, Old Ben’s stare lingered on Leia, then on Luke. He seemed to be making up his mind about something, though Luke couldn’t say what. Old Ben had always struck him as a sort of harmless religious sort; in another world he might have been a Jedi like in the stories, but instead he was a desert madman, talking to the air and clutching at a bit of carbon tubing like it was a lightsaber.

There was nothing harmless about the way he was looking at them now.

“I’ve been happy here,” Old Ben muttered, quietly, like an apology.

“Fine,” Leia said, almost a snarl. Luke could only see her in silhouette, against the light from Old Ben’s hut. He thought suddenly of a predator, something that could leap on the unsuspecting. “But no one ever promised us happiness.”

Luke could see Old Ben’s throat work. “Come in,” he said at last. His gaze darted to Luke, and Luke caught his breath. “What I have to say is—for both of you, now.”

Luke shut off the speeder.

(He had followed Leia into Old Ben’s hut, and didn’t come out the same man. No, not the same man at all.)

Just a reminder that Arin sang Speed of Sound and then Part of Your World

apparently rough-sketching scenes from disney aus is my ~thing now, so here’s a snapshot of cinderella, based on the 2015 movie. maybe this will become a series, who knows!

(with proper capitalization for reading ease bc this got wayyy longer than i meant for it to, whoops)

The first time Isak meets the prince, he doesn’t know he’s meeting the prince.

This is probably for the better, seeing as he doesn’t so much meet the prince as nearly run the prince down with his horse. Which is mostly Isak’s fault, since he isn’t watching where he is riding as well as he should be, but there are—reasons, if he were pressed to give them. The morning had been crueler than usual and the ride to the market had been an all-too-appealing promise of escape, even just temporarily. And so Isak had left the breakfast dishes still dripping dry and bolted as fast as he was able, gratefully giving his thoughts and tears to the wind and trusting the horse to guide them both clear.

Maybe not the safest plan, but it has worked fairly well, up until he almost runs into another rider. It happens so quickly—a startled shout, the high cry of another horse, a blur of color suddenly veering to his left—that Isak has little time to do anything but shout “Sorry!” over his shoulder and hope the wind carries it back. He thinks that will be it, until he registers a voice calling behind him, and then a second rhythm of hoofbeats pounding into the forest floor and catching him up.

My interpretation of Sign of the Times Lyrics

With Harry’s blessing that we can interpret his work in the way we see it.

I have thought about the lyrics of the song, and  am going to give my interpretation of the lyrics and the changes in Harry’s vocal range. So please listen and read the lyrics at the same time. I’m also going to look at the themes Harry has explored before in relation to being trapped and caged, the freedom of birds and flying, and I am also going to explore closeting.

Above all, I want to say I see this song as being about a couple. Harry speaks with the term “we” a lot - subconsciously he is half of a whole. A couple. I believe Harry is absolutely in love with Louis and this song is about their battle against the Iron Closet. I believe it is a pre-coming out song. I believe it is a warning to the OT and an announcement that Louis and Harry are going to come out with the biggest fanfare possible.

So here goes!

Just stop your crying
It’s a sign of the times
Welcome to the final show
Hope you’re wearing your best clothes

I take this first as Harry and Louis being told to stop complaining, stop crying - they know their situation. It is what it is. I can hear the voice of Simon Cowell, Henry Magee and Richard Griffiths saying this.

And the promise each time this will be the last time you’ll have to pretend - the stunts - put on your best clothes (note, this song is absolutely gender neutral). Each promise that this “show” of being heterosexual and pretending they weren’t together and then they wouldn;t need to do it again but…..

You can’t bribe the door on your way to the sky

You can’t bribe the door - however many times they tried to trade to get more freedom, it never worked. You can’t bribe that door to freedom.

I see this as so subversive. The sky is the limit but it also reminds me of Harry;s many bird tattoos and the birdcage and butterfly. The door was closed. The door was closed by management. They were trapped like birds in a cage. Their iron closet. I interpret the sky and flying as freedom - and seeing Harry flying in the video reminds me of If I Could Fly. And Harry’s one wish when he was 18 years old.

If you could wish for anything in the world…..”

“Freedom.”

And so I do think the theme of flying, escape, getting away in Sign of the Times follows on from Harry’s writing in If I Could Fly and Happily, and Walking in the Wind and looking at Ready To Run. The birds of freedom - flying and wings and escaping that Birdcage - La Cage aux Folles.

You look pretty good down here

But you ain’t really good

That line “But you ain’t really good” is the most understated but also jarring line in a song I’ve ever heard. It hit me that this could be Harry’s pre-coming out anthem. That he has heard that so often. You look good as you are. Here is your image, Harry. This is how you shuld look - what you really are isn;t good. That teenager in love with his bandmate who just wants to hold his hand and kiss him - bad bad bad.

But you ain’t really good.” - you can hear those people saying it to Harry and Louis.

And that is the end of the first quieter part sung in Harry’s chest voice - the end of that sarcastic quiet patronising tone he and Louis heard for so many years.

The next part is in his beautiful falsetto which I believe represents their trapped situation like trapped birds  - I see this as the private complementation between Harry and Louis of their trapped situation which seemed to never end. “We never learn, we been here before”. 7 years of promises and being told what was right for them and what was wrong about them.

Just note how his voice changes from the chest voice to this striking falsetto - it’s a different voice. It’s a different situation. To me, it is Harry and Louis in the past 7 years.

We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?

We never learn, we been here before - my heart breaks every time on that line. So many promises. So many times they appeared to be close to freedom then they were shit further in the closet.

Why……. indeed. Why are they always stuck and trying to escape the next bullet - the next attack fired at them? The smearings, the stunts, the punishments, separation, each attack trying to wound and kill them - destroy them.

And this verse is sung twice. Because Harry is half of a whole which two people. HarryandLouis. LouisandHarry. You don’t get Harry without Louis and you don’t get Louis without Harry. So it’s sung twice because it is Harry AND Louis. Both halves of the whole in their trapped situation together.

(Basically, this is a masterpiece)

Just stop your crying
It’s a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying
It’ll be alright
They told me that the end is near
We gotta get away from here

Harry’s voice changes again in this verse. He returns to his chest voice, and this is a powerful uplifting voice. This is Louis in Just Hold On. If it all goes wrong, darling just hold on. We’ll be alright. This is the times they’ve been told it’s not the last thing but the end is NEAR (note it goes backwards from the the final show to now being The end is NEAR).

The two lines “We gotta get away from here” - I see as Harry who wrote IICF and Happily. Harry who quoted Come Away With Me in March 2016 amidst Babygate. He wanted to escape. But he was supported by the one person who said they could keep going  - it will end soon.

Harry’s voice changes again ever so subtly back to the tone of the first two verses next and we are back to that  patronising voice who told them to be quiet and enjoy the situation..

Just stop your crying
Have the time of your life
Breaking through the atmosphere
And things are pretty good from here

I see this verse as - It’s pretty good from here - this situation you have. You are multi millionaires, have millions of fans, the world is your oyster if you stick with the plan. Enjoy it. Have the time of your life. You can hear TPTB saying it. The patronising talks over the years. Breaking through the atmosphere - the fakeness, the tension, the lies, - the distorted image of the atmosphere that prevented them from reaching the sky or freedom.

And those Powers That Be at the top saying things are pretty good. So enjoy it. And Harry and Louis have repeated this to themselves so much. Things are pretty good as they are. It’s a sign of the times. It is what it is.

Remember, everything will be alright
We can meet again somewhere
Somewhere far away from here

To me, this is that strong couple knowing it won’t always be like this. They won’t always be trapped. They will not always be separated, made to not look at each other in public. We can meet again on our own…..somewhere safe away from the cameras and the public. This is between the couple. They are so strong.

Then we have the beautiful falsetto and that ongoing repeated trapped situation of Harry and Louis (this is why it is repeated, it’s their neverending trapped vicious circle)

We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?
We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?

And back to Harry’s chest voice - the couple together. The repeat of “It’s a sign of the times” as they have been brainwashed to thinking.

Just stop your crying
It’s a sign of the times
We gotta get away from here
We gotta get away from here
Just stop your crying
Baby, it will be alright
They told me that the end is near

To me, the repeat of “We gotta get away from here”  is again because this is two halves of a whole. “Baby, it’s alright” sounds so much like the lyrics in Home and Strong. Harry even sings “Baby, we could be enough.” Louis has called Harry “Baby”. It’s their term of endearment. Harry is Louis’ baby. And Louis is Harry’s baby.

Back to the falsetto - the trapped situation of the vicious circle they cannot escape from. The attacks from those bullets.

We never learn, we been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?
We never learn, we’ve been here before
Why are we always stuck and running from
The bullets, the bullets?

And then we have a change in Harry’s voice as he is rising to the climax of the song. This is the point when we I feel he is saying this is the time to stop. They have kept going in the same situation and accepting because it’s what they know.

We don’t talk enough
We should open up
Before it’s all too much
Will we ever learn?
We’ve been here before
It’s just what we know

To me, this IS the point of change. The language changes from being told by the person in the past and repeating what they said. Now, Harry says We don’t talk enough - they have been essentially silenced - their love is spoken through the canvas of heir bodies by their tattoos which scream out Harry and Louis’ love for each other.

“We should open up

Before it’s all too much”

And that says it all. Harry Styles is not going to be silenced on his love for Louis Tomlinson. They are not going to be beaten.

This verse also has an interesting change in the phrasing from “We never learn” to asking “Will we ever learn?” And he answers why they haven’t learnt before. Because “ we’ve been here before, It’s just what we know.” It is what it is. It’s a sign of the times. They got accustomed to living in that trapped situation of promises and being let down. They had an amazing life except for not being able to be free to be themselves and show they love each other.

The final verse is that climax with Harry’s voice showing its power - its strength. It is life affirming. They have made their decision. This is Harry’s warning. Harry and Louis are not going to run away from those bullets anymore. They are going to talk. They are going to open up.

This is the point that Harry’s voice takes full volume and sounds enough strength for two people. We have got to - got to - away…. they have to be free. .

Stop your crying, baby
It’s a sign of the times
We gotta get away
We got to get away
We got to get away
We got to get away
We got to get away
We got to—we got to—away
We got to—we got to—away
We got to—we got to—away

I believe there is hope in that final verse. This is the warning that Harry and Louis are coming out. They are not staying trapped in that cage any longer.

Harry and Louis have got to get away. Together. And i believe they will get away together.

And again, reflecting the fact this is a couple who think and behave together, we have the repetition because this two people who make a whole. Soulmates.

Harry has opened that door to the light and he has washed away the vile grubby nasty things he has been told about himself and Louis over the years. He is sharing this baby with the world in more ways than one.

In his video he is flying over the Isle of Skye - over the sea. Freedom.

And, hearing how happy and relaxed, how giggly and positive Harry has sounded in his interviews, I do believe this song is his gay anthem on his experience with Louis of their forced closeting, being trapped like two birds who couldn’t sing and soar.
