What Is Black August and How is it Commemorated?

It’s Black August again and there are some misconceptions around what Black August is. It is NOT a celebration of “Being Black in August” nor is it just an event. Black August is a commemoration dedicated to the lives of Our Political Prisoners some who have joined the Ancestors and others who languish in America’s gulags known as the prison industrial complex. Here we have included a calendar and also information on how Black August is properly observed. In the Spirit of Each one Teach One, let us properly educate and inspire others through OUR collective efforts. For the event promoters, In honor of the Freedom Fighters we are commemorating please make sure your event is in line with the liberation struggle rather than just slapping on the title Black August as a fad. Together we will win, Black August Resistance!

Letter from George Jackson

Tuesday, March 24, 1970 (evening)

This monster—the monster they’ve engendered in me will return to

torment its maker, from the grave, the pit, the profoundest pit. Hurl

me into the next existence; the descent into hell won’t turn me. I’ll

crawl back to dog his trail forever. They won’t defeat my revenge,

never, never. I’m part of a righteous people who anger slowly, but

rage undamned. We’ll gather at his door in such a number that the

rumbling of our feet will make the earth tremble. I’m going to charge

them for this, twenty-eight years without gratification. I’m going to

charge them reparations in blood. I’m going to charge them like a

maddened, wounded, rogue male elephant, ears flared, trunk raised,

trumpet blaring. I’ll do my dance in his chest, and the only thing

he’ll ever see in my eyes is a dagger to pierce his cruel heart. This

is one nigger who is positively displeased. I’ll never forgive, I’ll

never forget, and if I’m guilty of anything at all it’s of not

leaning on them hard enough. War without terms.

MARCH 16TH MARKS 14 YEARS SINCE THE FRAMING AND KIDNAPPING OF RAP!!!

During the 1960’s, H. Rap Brown, one of my leaders (now known as Imam Jamil Al-Amin) rose to popularity as one of “the most articulate and outspoken critics of the Jim Crow South”. Former Chairman of SNCC (Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee) and Minister of Justice for the Black Panther Party, Imam Jamil Al-Amin has become one of the many victims of the continuation of the FBI’s Cointelpro. On March 16th 2000, Imam Jamil was accused and framed in the murder of an Atlanta Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy and the wounding of another. Although no scientific or physical evidence linked Imam Jamil to the scene, he was sentenced to 135 years.

On August 1, 2007. Imam Jamil Al-Amin was transferred from Georgia to the MAXIMUM SECURITY FEDERAL PRISON at FLORENCE, COLORADO known as the SUPER MAX, where he is currently held captive.

We are calling on All Freedom Fighters, Organizations, Students, Rappers, Poets, Artists, Athletes, Educators and all other Concerned Citizens to join us in the fight to Free Rap!

Also in appreciation for his work on our behalf, feel free to write him a letter at:

THE GEORGIA HERITAGE OF WHITE POWER

                                       DID YOU KNOW…

In 1863, WilliamTappan Thompson, the racist co-founder of the Daily Morning News (which is now known as the still very racist Savannah Morning News) created the Confederate Flag which he described as “The White Man’s Flag” and made these comments in his newspaper:

“As a people we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause. … As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race, and a higher civilization contending against ignorance, infidelity, and barbarism.”

Thompson resided and worked in Savannah, Ga., a major slave trading post before slavery was abolished after the Civil War. After the Civil War ended, Thompson was extremely vocal about his disdain for the Civil Rights of the formerly enslaved Africans. So when these pro-confederate jackasses come with that “it’s NOT Racism, it’s Heritage” tell them “EAD”…
