“Dear Big, Please stop saying you need to lose weight. It makes me sad every time you talk about counting calories or what you ate today. I love you for who you are and what you are. You are so beautiful. Love, Little”
After chapter today we had a potluck dinner to kick off Fat Talk Free Week. During the dinner girls wrote little notes and put them all into a bag to be read later during dinner. This was written on one of the papers and made everyone stop talking and eating. I swear I teared up a little.
This message is what FTFW is all about. Society needs to start putting this message, and this message only, into the world. I know so many friends and sisters who struggle with body image when they really shouldn’t be. We only have one life…we only have one college experience. This is the time to enjoy ourselves and not worry about what we are putting into our mouths.
I am so happy this week is happening and that my chapter is taking it seriously. I strongly encourage everyone to go to make a pledge for the week, and hopefully for life, to stop fat talk. Whether if you only stop from fat talking yourself, or also fat talking everyone around you, it helps. Every little bit helps.
We are so much better and stronger than fat talk. And I don’t care if you don’t reblog this, all I care about is this message getting across to at least one person. Even if FTFW helps just one person, the world is one step towards being a better place.
