frozen pea

hey! ducks are adorable and everybody likes feeding them, but bread causes a number of environmental and health problems that could easily be avoided. instead of bread, consider feeding duckies:

  • frozen peas or corn that’s been defrosted!
  • romaine lettuce (torn into small pieces)
  • bird feed of any kind
  • rice (cooked or uncooked!)
  • uncooked oats
  • grapes cut in half
  • earthworms
Here’s How to Eat Vegan for a Week For Under $50

Some of the most affordable foods on the planet are vegan, including rice, beans, legumes, pasta, and all kinds of fruits and veggies. Despite this, people will often ask us about eating vegan on a budget.

So we’ve compiled some handy tips and tricks that will keep you veg without breaking the bank:

Dry beans are worth the wait.
Sure, you have to soak them overnight, but dry beans are exponentially cheaper than canned. They’re also a delicious, protein-packed essential in a budget-friendly vegan diet.

Buy it frozen.
One great way to save money is to reduce food waste. Frozen veggies like corn, peas, and green beans are great because they last almost forever.

Get into oatmeal.
Yeah, oatmeal is a super secret vegan hack. It’s filling, loaded with iron and calcium, and one of the cheapest things you could eat for breakfast.

Stick with produce under $2 per pound.
When choosing fresh fruits and veggies, try to stick with items under $2/lb.

If you want to splurge, buy some Vegenaise.
Of course you can just use it like mayo, but you can also create sour cream (just add lemon juice), salad dressings, and sauces with this must-have specialty item.

Soup is a thing.
Soups loaded with veggies, grains, and beans hold well as leftovers, stretch your dollars, and make great filling meals!

Stick with staples.
Rice, pasta, and peanut butter are all great choices for affordability and versatility.

Every night can be taco night.
Put those tasty veggies and beans to use inside a toasted tortilla! Add some Vegenaise sour cream and you’ve got yourself a tasty and inexpensive vegan dinner.

  • while holding some frozen bag of peas to his face
  • probably laughs it off too
  • “I’m alright”

  • will straight up dodge this
  • swoosh swoosh he probably blocks MC
  • then points at his phone and just
  • “Careful”
  • “Don’t hurt yourself MC”
  • if he does get smacked he probably very nonchalantly continues scrolling through his phone
  • gives MC a thumbs up

  • rubs his face
  • ends up helping MC practice
  • is the most likely to stand there for a good few seconds then
  • “ow”
  • with a straight face
  • “MC I’m alright”

  • is the type to ask MC what they’re doing
  • he will hire MC a professional martial artist to help MC practice
  • “you’re getting a private room for this”
  • believes MC is in the right to learn how to defend themselves
  • most likely to watch sipping some wine
  • probably not very troubled by the hit
  • slightly surprised tho

  • this boy will fall back
  • crash into the cabinet behind him
  • and tear up
  • but will praise MC for the awesome martial arts
  • probably goes to practice with her
  • insists they take classes together

  • she knows self defense
  • probably stops the hit with ease
  • while sipping coffee
  • just
  • “MC please be more careful when practicing”
  • “We should practice together sometime”

  • MC hit his face
  • is proud but probably over dramatic about this
  • probably ends up getting pampered due to this
  • endless pampering!

Okay, so I realise I have been AWOL, and I am sorry. One the positive side, all my exams are done and I have suceeded in getting not one but two papers into the conference in December.

On the other hand, I’m now back at work full time, attempting to work out two twenty minute presentations to give at said conference (if anyone has any advice I would be eternally grateful), writing up grad school apps, and I’m still waiting on my thesis grade. So there is still a significant amount of stress there.

However, I made myself an A5 fauxdori for research notes out of stuff I already had and today I had frozen peas for dinner. So that was cool.

How are you all?

good for u 5 min study snacks

i know most of us have either started school alrdy or are getting ready to start, and i wanted to make a list of some of my favorite studying bites for reference :o)

  • frozen peas / edamame: mix a half a cup of both in a microwave-safe tupperware and microwave for 1-2 minutes and take it with u to the library–both are Very Good sources of protein which will keep u full, and edamame (soy beans) have natural umami in them (that savory taste of protein-rich foods like meats).
  • hard-boiled eggs: boil a whole big lot on sunday and keep them in the fridge (fridge life ~7 days) and when ur about to head out cut 1 in half and season w/ whatever u want. salt, pepper, parmesan, sriracha, cayenne…etc. also keeps u full and v tasty
  • cheapest fresh fruits & veggies (obviously): apples, bananas, oranges, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, whatevers on sale at ur grocery store – the natural sugars / carbs will give u a nice bit of energy to keep u going
  • 2-ingredient trailmix: break up some dark chocolate (70% cocoa or more) and combine w/ ur choice of nuts (i like almonds and cashews). make 3-4 cups worth on sunday and keep them in an airtight container to scoop out from when ur about to study–cocoa stimulates production of endorphins which are ur brain’s happy chemicals while nuts keep u full
  • oatmeal: i like to make watery oatmeal in the morning and put it in a thermos to take with me, watery bc the oats will continue to soak up liquid while it sits in the container so when u actually eat it the consistency will be Perfect. u can also pack a banana w/ this to put on the oatmeal if u so desire – oats are a good source of fiber which also help keep u full
  • air-popped popcorn: get the kind that has zero flavor and then add ur own seasonings and fill a ziploc bag when ur going to head out – a nice source of whole grains and fiber and also very fun to eat (though it can get loud and annoying so remember to be courteous abt ur foods)
  • greek yogurt / nutella / granola: get those big containers of greek yogurt and plop a little in a small tupperware to-go. u can also add nutella or granola to plain greek yogurt for extra tastiness – lots of protein and the sugar and carbs from nutella/granola are quick source of energy.

(ok i probably forgot a whole bunch so ill add on when i think of more…also always have water with u! ur brain is 75% water. it needs water.)

[disclaimer that im not a nutritionist or medical professional in any capacity i am only a teenager on the internet and these are just my own favorite foods and nothing more – be aware and take care of ur own health needs etc!!]

Vegan Grocery Shopping-Budget Style

This is my generic vegan grocery shopping template-it’s perfect if you live in a colder climate like myself and you’re wanting to eat cheaply as a vegan!🌱😊

1) Have a constant supply of starches, whole grains, beans and legumes at home. These are the fundamental base of my diet-they’re cheap, nutritious and widely available in most places. I stock up on oats, pasta, potatoes, dark wholemeal breads, noodles, sweet potatoes, brown rice and buy them in bulk/on sale. I’d recommend buying lentils/beans in bulk as well in dry weight as opposed to canned, try to vary the lentils, beans and pulses you use-aim to get beans and lentils in an array of shapes, sizes and colours for multifarious nutrition. I try to go for dark grains over white!

2) Buy frozen not fresh-frozen vegetables and fruits are just as nutritious but often significantly cheaper than buying them fresh-I like to get frozen berries, peas, corn, spinach, string beans, if you’re eating a lot of the surface area of your produce if you can afford it, go organic.

3) Fresh Produce Section: Here I try to switch up what I buy- I’ll often get apples, bananas, avocados, oranges, carrots, kiwi fruit, tomatoes, capsicum, cucumber, onions, eggplant, apricots, parsnips, whatever’s in season. I’ll also always get some dark leafy/collard/cruciferous greens (kale, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower) to make sure I’m getting enough calcium and other important micronutrients and vitamins.

4) Nuts and nut butters/seeds/dried fruit-I’ll switch this up a bit also, normally buying these products in bulk/when they’re discounted. I’ll often get almonds, cashews, peanut butter, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, tahini, flaxseeds, sesame seeds, walnuts and dried apricots, raisins, dried cranberries, dried figs, dates, dried prunes, sometimes dried mango. I don’t use margarine or olive oil in my cooking often because I’d rather eat foods in their whole food form and get the fats from there, (in saying this I’m definitely not against using oils/margarines that are palm oil free).

4) Misc.other-I usually buy some tofu/tempeh, and if I’m too lazy to make my own haha I’ll buy soy/almond/coconut milks when they’re on sale. I’ll make sure to eat sushi nori/buy some seaweed to get some form of the DHA form of omega 3 fatty acids.

This is all I can really think of at the moment, sometimes I’ll buy some vegan junk food or vegan substitutes-like fake meats, yoghurts, ice cream etc but I don’t often crave foods like these :)

Some people were also asking if I take any supplements-apart from a vitamin D supplement in winter I don’t, I’m easily getting enough zinc, iron, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids etc. through the way I am eating but I get my blood tested every 6 months to make sure I’m on top of my nutrition and I’d recommend if you’re transitioning to veganism, you do too. For B12 I’ll either get that through nutritional yeast, marmite or I’ll buy plant milks that are fortified with it 👍

Everlark Advent: Day 14, Snow Removal Services Part 2

This is a part two to Snow Removal Services, though it isn’t necessary to have read the first one for this to make sense.

Snow Removal Services II

There’s an odd scratching shuffling sound just outside my front door, followed by a thump. I smirk; it’s probably the Amazon guy again. Four weeks post-surgery and still on crutches, Amazon Prime is the only way my Christmas shopping is getting done this year. I’m doing a little weight bearing on my knee in my thrice weekly physiotherapy sessions, but I’m by no means ready to face the mall. So Floyd, the Amazon man, has become a fixture in my apartment.

“It’s open,” I bellow from my perch on the couch where my knee is propped up on a pillow and covered by a bag of frozen peas. Might as well have him drop the packages inside.

The door slams open and I jump. Sticking through my entrance is not a cardboard box but a chunk of greenery, the top of an evergreen tree. What the hell? I groan; I definitely did not order a tree.

Amazing lunch 😍😋 stewed vegetables with brown basmati rice and green onions. Inspired by @frommybowl! My boyfriend and I made a huge batch this last night and have soooo many leftovers, it’s a great meal prep dish and is so delicious!

I didn’t measure the amounts of each veggie I added so I don’t have an exact recipe, but you don’t even really need one! You can add pretty much whatever you want and it’ll be good.

Basically what I did was sauté chopped onion and garlic in a large saucepan on the stove until they started to brown. Then added tons of veggies; I did carrots, potato, bell pepper, 1 can of kidney & cannelloni beans (drain first), and frozen peas and corn. Mix all the veggies together and add a 28 oz can of fire roasted diced tomatoes, do not drain! (or a 14.5 oz can if you want to make less). I also added some veggie broth to just cover all the veggies with liquid. Bring to a simmer and cook for 45 minutes to an hour, or whenever it gets to the consistency you want, and stir occasionally. While simmering I seasoned the stew with dried basil, oregano, Rosemary, parsley, cracked pepper, and sea salt. It came out perfect! I hope this recipe wasn’t too terrible to read in paragraph form 😅 Enjoy!

Anon req:  oh please kastle + 65. “Because I love you god damn it!

Frank held a bag of frozen peas to his temple, barely able to see out of his left eye from the rapid swelling. But with his right, he could see Karen sitting across from him on the couch, hands holding her hair back from her face as her elbows rested on her knees.

She was staring at him in fear, but it wasn’t of him. It was of what he was going to get himself into.

‘’Still got one good eye ma’am,’’ he smiled, trying to show her he wasn’t too hurt.

‘’For now,’’ she nodded. ‘’If you go to them again…’’

‘’Nothing’s gonna happen to me,’’

‘’Something already did,’’

Frank sighed and moved to sit back further on the couch, wincing involuntarily at the pain it caused. Karen watched nervously, wondering how many bruises and gashes were hidden beneath his shirt.

He could be bleeding out for all she knew. Frank hid it well from her.

‘’Only one way to stop them,’’ he shook his head. ‘’I need you to tell me where they’re hiding out,’’

‘’So you can walk in there on your own? Frank, we don’t know how many there are yet,’’ Karen protested.

‘’So give me the address and I’ll find out,’’

‘’No,’’ Karen snapped. ‘’I’m not giving you my research so you can get yourself killed,’’

Frank watched as Karen stood and walked into the kitchen, trying to busy herself with making a drink.

‘’You help me, I help you, remember?’’ he reminded.

‘’Don’t throw that back at me Frank! After all this time, you still think all I care about is what I get out of this?’’

‘’This is what I do Karen!’’ Frank snapped. ‘’You knew that, this is always what I’ve done. I need that address,’’

‘’I’m not giving it to you,’’ she shook her head. ‘’If you want to march in somewhere half-dead and get them to finish the job, I’m not gonna help you get there,’’

Frank groaned in frustration and pain as he stood to face her.

‘’And why the hell not?’’

Karen bit her lip and turned away from him, shaking her head.

‘’C’mon Karen, you don’t want me to finish this, tell me why!’’

‘’Because I love you, god damn it!’’ Karen shouted.

The way it escaped her lips took them both by surprise. It was both a confession of relief and panic. Frank just stood there with his mouth hanging slightly open, staring back at her as if he hadn’t heard her right.

Karen’s chest moved rapidly with her desperate breaths, her eyes moving from Frank to the pile of files by her laptop.

‘’I…I have a piece due tomorrow,’’ she spoke softly, lifting up the papers and computer. ‘’There’s another bag of peas in the freezer,’’

And then Karen was gone from the room, leaving Frank in the exact position he had been when the words left her mouth.

It had been a long time since Frank had heard anyone direct those words at him, he was almost sure it was impossible for anyone to love what he was now. And here was a woman that he knew deserved so much better, but had chosen him.

Swirling Mist Soup
This warming dish, with its delicate threads of egg in a steaming broth, does indeed bear a resemblance to swirling mist. The sliced fish will cook very quickly, so do not add until mere minutes before you intend to serve.
  • 1 filet tilapia
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger
  • ⅛ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • ½ cup water chestnuts, thinly sliced (optional)
  • ½ cup frozen “baby” peas
  • 1 green onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
Partially freeze the fish so that it will be easier to cut, and cut lengthwise along the seam. Slice thinly into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

Set ¼ cup of chicken broth aside and mix with the cornstarch. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs with a tablespoon of water until smooth. Leave both for later.

In a large saucepan, lightly toast the ginger and red pepper in the vegetable oil until fragrant, then pour in the other 3 ¾ cups broth and heat to a boil. Add the rice vinegar, salt, and mirin, then bring to a simmer. Turn off the heat.

Gradually pour the egg mixture into the hot soup in a thin stream, stirring in one direction with chopsticks or a fork so that the eggs become silky “flowers” as they cook. Stir in the cornstarch and broth mixture. Add the sesame oil, water chestnuts, green onion, and peas, and simmer until thickened. Add the fish last of all, cooking until it is just barely opaque, and serve immediately.

The duck nesting season is underway, which can only mean one thing: Ducklings!

Yup. There are going to be ducklings!

this is my reminder to you to NOT feed them bread.

This also goes for any duck at any time of the year, but goes double during the adorable ducking season.

No bread, of any kind, has any nutritional value for ducks. By feeding them bread, it fills their stomachs while providing no nutrient. It’s essentially the equivalent of humans eating cotton balls, or grass. This is especially important for the wee ones while they’re growing.

Consider these alternate options:

  • Cracked corn
  • Wheat, barley or similar grains
  • Oats (uncooked; rolled or quick)
  • Update: Rice (cooked, not uncooked!)
  • Milo
  • Birdseed (any type or mix)
  • Grapes (cut in half)
  • Frozen peas or corn (defrosted, no need to cook)
  • Earthworms
  • Mealworms (fresh or dried)
  • Chopped lettuce or other greens or salad mixes
  • Vegetable trimmings or peels (chopped)
  • Duck feed pellets or poultry starter pellets

These foods more closely mirror the duck’s natural food sources.

A/N: Shit just got kinky, I’m re-thinking my life choices

Y/N’s Pov

No one had seen Anna in few days. I had a new roommate, Annabel, She was annoying, acting all happy and positive, like nothing was wrong with this place. When I came to the room one day after Mr. Kwon punished me from being late, she asked if it hurt to kneel on frozen peas for two hours. I asked if it hurt to be a bitch and she cried.

I was sitting on my math class again, doing nothing. Mark called me few times but I just ignored him. “Y/N!” he finally yelled after calling my name more than ten times. I looked at him like nothing happened, like he was yelling at me without a reason. “I asked a question, what are you def?” he asked. “I don’t care.” I said coldly. Mark sighed loudly and looked at the clock. “I have to end this here. Y/n I need to talk to you.” he said. Everyone left but I stayed.

“Do you know how annoying it is to teach you, when you don’t even pay attention?” Mark asked and came to my place. “Do you know how annoying it is to have Mr. Kwon talking how I don’t discipline the students enough?” Mark asked and leaned against the table. I got up because the space between us was getting smaller “Sit down.” Mark growled and I obeyed. “Could you just once pay attention on my class?” Mark whined “What are you gonna do if I don’t?  Make me kneel on frozen peas? Cut off my hair? Spank me?” I asked. I saw something flash in Mark’s eyes when the word spank left my lips.

“I could…but I won’t… it’s too brutal.” Mark said. I smiled proudly “Exactly, you won’t because you are the only teacher that rest of the students like. And it’s just because you are not like them. You don’t hit, you don’t hurt. You are like a kitten in a lion’s gate.” I said and continues smiling.Mark looked deep into my eyes. “But maybe a bitch like you deserves something more than words.” Mark said and grabbed my hair to pull my face closer to his. “You could do that and I could tell what you are really like. Same as the others. But…Then you wouldn’t be the favorite teacher anymore.” I said and my smile turned into a smirk. “Do you think I care.” Mark said after he thought about what to say. “Of course you don’t care. That’s what everyone said to me but then they all turned into Mr. Kwon’s minions. It’s gonna happen to you too.” I said. Mark looked deep into my eyes. Looking if my words were true. “I could bend you on this table and make you regret your words.” Mark said finally. “Then do it.” I spat out.

Mark pulled me up by my hair and bent me on the table, a small smirk came to my lips as Mark walked behind me. I looked at him “No paddle?” I asked, Mark smirked  “You don’t deserve one.” Mark said and took off his belt. Mark lifted my skirt up, I closed my eyes and waited for the leather to hit my ass. And when it did, it felt so right. As I felt the leather hit my ass again I let out a soft moan. I heard Mark chuckle. “So you think I’m fuckable?” he asked with cocky tone. “mmmhm” I hummed as yes. I heard him drop the belt and felt him smack my ass with his hand. “I wish I had time to play with you kitten but I don’t” Mark said and lifted me up.
