frilled chicken

A Taste of Seoul in Winter

The more I eat, the more I find myself drawn to traditional preparations of food. And this was no exception. This is a second generation fried chicken restaurant located in Gyeongdong market. The proprietress is an unassuming lady who knows how to cook her chicken. It’s nothing fancy but well executed. The thin, lightly battered crust lets you know you’re eating chicken and not batter. It is light and crispy and really enhances the chicken skin as opposed to trying to overpower it. The chicken meat is perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful. Paired with her house made dipping sauces and you have a winner. Truly some excellent, no frills, fried chicken. Oh, and don’t forget the soju.
