I was looking through old photos we have and I saw something like this and wanted to redraw it

Mabel made them do it to take a picture for her scrapbook, or she made them do it for the scrapbook she made for the Grunks, so that they never forget her :D

Finals week went well! I’m glad I decided to do six week courses because there’s still summer left! And, Theresa and I are officially rising seniors now. I’m more excited for my last year than I thought I would be. There is the fact that I’m just ready to be done with Pitt, but I’m also kind of excited for all the last times. After I had that meeting with my advisor a few weeks ago and we discussed what I should do after I graduate it became more real. I was scared for a few weeks (I mean, I still am) about how after this year I’m supposed to be an active independent member of society, or at least that’s my goal. Now that my classes are over and I’m purely focused on my final year, it just hit me harder.

I went to Ohio last weekend for Cleveland pride and it was awesome. I also went to my friend Anthony’s Fam Fest, which is a type of family reunion. It was fun, and I was happy that I didn’t have to worry about doing homework when I came back for the week. I went up on Saturday and I was supposed to return on Sunday, but my bus got cancelled. So, I ended up having an extra day to spend with another one of my friends who lives in Ohio. It was annoying that my bus was cancelled, but I think the universe was working in my favor. Theresa left Saturday night for the whole week because she’s doing a program in Erie. I basically got an extra day with friends, and one less day of being alone.

Last time Theresa left for a few days it was impromptu and I wasn’t ready to be alone in our apartment for the first time. I knew about this particular trip beforehand so I took it a lot better. Instead of being sad and nonproductive, I’ve just been nonproductive. I’ve been binge watching Orange is the New Black (I had never watched it before now) and it’s awesome. I’ve been cooking, trying new recipes, to keep myself busy. And I have spent some time with our friend Anna since she lives close by. Next week I start volunteering. I’m looking forward to having structure in my schedule again.

Yesterday, Anna and I got together and went for a walk down by the marina. Then we went to one of my favorite cafes and I finally finished writing the first chapter of my novel for my summer research project. After that we spontaneously decided to go to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. It was my first time going and we ended up having a really great time.

So far, life post-finals has been going well!

Rachel’s Rambles - HVFF Nashville

So this past weekend, I attended Heroes and Villains Fan Fest Nashville.

I vaguely knew what to expect going in – I attended the Saturday of Star Wars Celebration back in April – but I still felt like this was going to be my first “full on” convention experience.

And let me tell you, it was a blast.

Some general things I learned from this convention: always wear comfortable shoes (Saturday I walked 12,523 steps/5.47 miles and Sunday 6,867 steps/3 miles); bring a water bottle (there was a water fountain you could use and keeping hydrated was a must) and snacks; splurge for the VIP pass (it saved a ton of time on lines); and bring a bag that won’t kill your shoulder by the end of the weekend, because you will pack a lot into it and it’ll weigh like twenty pounds.

My full convention experience is behind the cut. There’s a lot of babble and a multitude of pictures. Also beware of spoilers and a side of snark.

Time is a Fine Invention, by bluepeony

Rating: Mature
Word Count: 105,540
Type: Non-magic!AU, Modern!AU

Summary: Sirius Black expected university to be simple; a medley of moonlight trysts and Good Times. What he didn’t expect was the yearning for home, the strains on his friendships, or falling for the hot-tempered History student Remus Lupin.

Comments: The perfect fic to mark the end of the university!au fest, I think. This is one of the classics, in my opinion. It’s a fic I first read a long time ago, back when I first got into remus/sirius, but it holds up incredibly well.

Sirius has to go through a lot when he starts out at university; he has to make new friends, attend lectures that don’t really interest him, and try again and again to make Remus actually want to hang out with him. The extreme snark that comes from Remus, and the way he is truly unimpressed with any of Sirius’ attempts at flirting will always be entertaining. There’s angst and fluff mixed in, but what I really like about this fic is that the characters are so flawed. They have to learn and grow and realize that everything doesn’t always work out nice and easy. But don’t worry, happy, fluffy endings do happen eventually. I would have it no other way.

Isak talking to Eskild after the encounter with the homophobe during his birthday. Think the pride speech 2.0

“Hey,” Isak says, and the voice on the other end of the line is oddly comforting.

“Hallo Isak! Why are you calling? Looking for some guru advising?” Eskild asks, and Isak laughs. Even’s at work, and Isak’s alone for the next hour or so. The day before with the man on the street had actually shaken him up a bit. He normally wouldn’t necessarily go running to Eskild at the first sign of trouble, but today…he feels isolated and hurt still.

“I just needed to hear your voice…I…I’m a bit upset,” he admits.

“Are you ok?” Eskild asks in concern. Isak plays with the hem of his shirt.

“Uh…did Even tell you anything about yesterday?” He asks.

“Some. We did just see each other at your party,” Eskild says. Isak hesitates.

“Have you ever…gotten shit said to you? Like, when you’re with someone?” There’s a pause.

“Yes. I think…I think all of us have. At one time or another. Are you looking for…for advice on how to handle that?”

“Uh…yeah. I mean that happened and I still feel…raw?” He stares at the Nas poster on the wall across from him. He remembers when he and Even taped all those scraps of paper up.

“How did you react?” Isak lets out a little bitter laugh.

“I fucking tried to fight him. Literally tried to run down the street to punch him. I called him…fucking ugly…and a bunch of other things.” Eskild laughs.

“Is getting into fights your new thing? Maybe you should think about that.”

“Even held me back. Otherwise…” He trails off.

“Punch more homophobes?”

“Something like that.” There’s a long pause before Eskild speaks. Long enough that Isak almost thinks the older man’s hung up.

“It’s…It’s not about hurting them or fighting them or anything like that. It’s about not letting them get to you. The worst thing you can do to them is keep on being who you are. And some people can’t do that. They’d rather…beat the shit out of a homophobe, which, don’t get me wrong, is great on its own, but the sort of strength you need to take those guys out is more than physical.”

“You’ll be alright Isak.” Eskild pauses again. “You’re strong.”

Real Friends

Just another week
and I’ll pick myself up off my bony knees
I guess it took a year to realize that what I had was
Everything I needed to feel okay
But still I’ve got these sleepy eyes
That have seen too much for me to handle
