So I got two questions in a row about the books that Lizzie puts into her bag in episode 84.  I was so glad to get them.

friedap had it right – the books are Rereadings: Seventeen writers revisit books they love, edited by Anne Fadiman, and At Large and At Small: Familiar Essays, written by Anne Faidman.

The books are both mine and I love them.  I felt like Lizzie would like books about books and they were the right sort of thing to have her moving into her bag – small, colorful and easy to pack away.  As is frequently the case with Lizzie’s things, sometimes a prop is just a prop, but I still like to have them not be so far away from things I think she might have with her.

As a related side note – Anne Fadiman’s Ex Libris is one of my very favorite books.  It’s a book about loving books, so I suppose I was preconditioned to love it, but it is honestly some of the greatest personal essay work I’ve read.  It’s one of my favorite books to give as a gift.  If you haven’t read it, do yourself a favor and buy it.  There are so many great lessons about love, life and literature in those pages.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thanks to friedap and byebyebananas for the questions!
