Why do some people in the traditional goth culture that hates Morrissey? I probably misspell that. I'm like doing research on him and nothing bad is on him.
It’s not just within goth culture, i’m afraid most fans of his work hate him apart from a few staunch apologists that would defend him if he straight up murdered someone. Most people I know like his work but really don’t like him as an individual. I’m not a fan of his solo work anyway as I only like The Smiths tbh but I can admit he’s got songwriting talent but he just really needs to…take a seat. He needs to take an arena of seats. Several arenas, in fact. Probably at the venues he’s cancelled gigs at for a childish reason most recently.
Aside from being incredibly arrogant and immature overall, here’s a few things he’s said and done:
-Belittled the victims of the Norway Massacre (whereby 77 people lost their lives) by saying of it: “That is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried shit every day.” (https://www.theguardian.com/music/2011/jul/28/morrissey-norway-attacks-mcdonalds-kfc)
(I’m a vegetarian myself who’s morally against the meat industry but he just takes it way too far.)
-Called the Chinese a “subspecies” (https://www.theguardian.com/music/2010/sep/03/morrissey-simon-armitage-interview)
-Sold a T-Shirt on his website with an image of black civil rights activist James Baldwin with the lyrics “I wear black on the outside ‘cause black is how I feel on the inside”. I will hand it to him that he had it removed later on but still (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/morrissey-tshirt-james-baldwin-tour-sale-racist-backlash-unloveable-lyrics-a7640716.html)
- Implied he was backing an anti-Islam politician running for leader of far-right Party UKIP by claiming that the leadership vote was rigged against her (https://www.standard.co.uk/showbiz/celebrity-news/morrissey-claims-ukip-s-leadership-election-was-rigged-against-antiislam-candidate-annemarie-waters-a3648671.html)
- He continually cancels his shows last minute for the stupidest of reasons, like the other week when he cancelled because the stage was too cold (http://www.nme.com/news/music/morrissey-cancels-california-show-last-minute-cold-2156821) as if it doesn’t matter that people have paid a fortune on tickets, transport and accommodation to see him.
- Also there’s the Smiths/Cure rivalry that basically comes from Morrissey and Robert Smith insulting each other (though Morrissey was definitely far more immature, calling Smith a “whingebag” while completely failing to see the irony) which has become kind of a meme in recent times (http://flavorwire.com/374409/a-brief-history-of-morrisseys-many-many-feuds)
- He’s also attracted controversy also by backing Brexit and saying he admires Nigel Farage, a prominent far-right political figure in the UK (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/morrissey-brexit-magnificent-britain-leave-european-union-a7379361.html)
