FACT: There are more people in the world who desire peace than those who do not.

Humanity is far more loving than it has been made out to be. Don’t let the actions of a few poison your view of the many.

Any Suggestions ( besides getting a life) ???
What are your favorite shows?

Edit: Thank you for your suggestions :)

Afraid and Happy -- 5 times Ronan came out to the Gangsey, and 1 time Adam did.

hello!! i have been writing this fic for ao3 for the past few weeks now, and it is finally done!! i posted a teaser of it a little while ago and it did well on here, so i supposed i would upload the rest of it? fair warning: this is about 10k words, but it’s worth the read! if you prefer to read it on ao3 it is here

Part 1—Ronan had always known he was gay. He may not have known it in words, but the thought was always there, pressing somewhere in the back of his mind, waiting until Ronan was ready to fully reveal itself. When he did put words to the music playing dully in the back of his mind, he kept it to himself.  Ronan told himself that he wasn’t embarrassed, or ashamed. He pretended that he was just waiting for a better time to make himself known, if there ever was such a time. Ronan thought that maybe his life would always be too full of dead fathers and night terrors to have room for such nonsense ideas as sexualities. Whatever excuses he came up with for hiding himself, it was all the same: he was afraid.

Those were the thoughts that clouded Ronan’s mind as he sat at a Nino’s booth with Noah, Gansey, and Adam on a Wednesday evening. The three of them were all talking of a homecoming dance, Ronan excluded.

Straw poll: What are YOU going to be doing during long maintenance?

Reblog or reply!

I’m not sure, but I’m probably going to be drawing, watching stuff with my friends, and maybe playing a tiny slice of WoW or Skyrim. Maybe doing a little bit of making floor plans for the house I hope to obtain at Shirogane release at the latest, too… I’ve already made some more specific plans regarding the nature, content, and frequency of the events I want to run, but I’m STILL SHORT A VENUE.

by far, one of my favorite organizational tools to plan my whole life is Google Calendar. It’s one of the millions of useful google apps that’s built straight into google accounts, so it’s totally free, functional, & versatile. below I’m going to share my organizational system via Google Calendar!

1. Use multiple calendars

In google calendar (GC), there is a function to create multiple calendars. all of mine are color coded.
I have separate calendars for classes, work, fun stuff, residence life, “extra school” (important but not class-related), and things like my gym’s hours/classes, my professors’ office hours, and the schedule for each campus library - like so:

however, it would be a lot going on to have each of those calendars up all the time, so usually I just have my class schedule, work hours, residence life, & birthdays showing, like so (this is from a past week so that’s why the colors are faded):

2. it’s very easy to schedule recurring events with GC. under the create event tab, all you need to do is hit repeat, and then input the days, times, and frequency you want the event to repeat at. This is crazy useful for things like class, office hours, or anything else that happens on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

3. In addition to the GC desktop version, there is also a mobile phone app, where you can create events, view your schedule, and make plans on the go. I usually add events right as I hear about them, and then go adjust them later. The only downside to the mobile app is that you can’t swap calendars, so if you use multiple (like I do), you have to correct them from your computer once you have the chance. But (imo) that’s way more preferable than thinking your brain will retain the meeting time on its own, only to be disappointed by your lack of memory a few hours later.

4. it is so so so easy to plan things with GC! Invites can be sent directly to emails, and your friends can RSVP. This is an excellent tool for planning study sessions, coffee dates, or errand runs with your squad!

5. With that, it’s also ridiculously easy to share entire calendars with your pals. My roommates & boyfriend all use GC too, so we can all view one another’s schedules. It’s like Find My Friends, only instead of locating them on a physical map you can just view their calendar, know they’re in class, and find another friend to make breakfast plans with tomorrow.

6. Something else that GC offers is Tasks. These can show up on the sidebar of GC in addition to gmail, and you can add due dates (or not, your choice). If you do add a due date, it will show up on the designated day up above your daily schedule with a checkbox, so you can keep track of whether you’ve finished it or not, as well as view upcoming deadlines. I LOVE to use this feature for projects. The only problem is that tasks will not show up on the mobile app, but that is what my hard copy planner is for. :)

basically, I use GC for all of my scheduling, day-to-day activities, classes, and work schedules. My planner is more for assignments & to-do lists, and for keeping note of things when I can’t immediately input them into my phone/calendar. However, when I sit down on Sunday morning to plan my week, I typically make sure everything that I see on my GC (tasks, birthdays, assignments, meetings) is exactly what’s written in my planner, and vice versa. That way, I’m double-checking myself, have info in 2 places, and am reminding myself what exactly is on my plate for the week.

I hope this was helpful! let me know if y’all have any questions at all!!

OOC: How to Submit Stories, Events, and Advertisements

One of the neatest things about the newspaper is the ability for others to see your or your guild’s activities. To make things a little easier, this “how to” guide is available on our About Us page and shared here for those on mobile. As always if you ever have a question or concern, you can submit an ask or message @risrielthron.

Story Guidelines

We want to help you share your stories.

If you are writing your own story, you can use the submit instructions below to send it to us.

If you would like us to write a story for you, send us the following information to help our writers craft a story:

  • All IC known information, such as who, where, when, what, why, and how
  • Any quotes from those involved
  • If we can embellish with a witness statement or not.
  • Who if any you would like tagged
  • Who might be following up on the story, e.g., the guard, Kirin Tor, alliance military

Classified Ad Guidelines

Do you have a need to advertise services? Are you looking for work? A friend? Do you need help for an event? Our Classified Ads run weekly to help you find service providers, job opportunities, offer your services or specialties, or even help you find a new friend or love interest. (We post the ad weekly on Mondays and reblog on Fridays). We also will do a “full page” ad by request.

What are our submission guidelines?

No more than 300 words.
Ads are free, but limited to one month without a request for renewal.
Keep it family friendly! We have some young readers!

Types of ads and information needed:

  • Personal Ad:  What you are looking for in a contact (friend, business partner, assistant, romantic connection, etc.)? Provide a little teaser about you and how readers can contact you (IC and OOC).
  • Job Wanted:  Think of this as a mini-resume. Tell us a little about your skills and what type of work you are looking for. Provide information on how readers can contact you (IC and OOC).
  • Now Hiring:  Tell us about your organization. Why would someone want to work for you? What skills and personality traits are you looking for in potential hires? Provide information on how readers can contact you (IC and OOC).
  • Items for Sale:   Selling new or used items? Tell us about the item, how much you are selling it for, and provide information on how readers can contact you (IC and OOC).

Event Guidelines

Have an event to advertise? Determine the frequency of your event and then fill out the corresponding information. We also will do a “full page” ad by request.

  • Name of the event:
  • Where the event will be (Give directions if needed):
  • When the event will be (Date and time):
  • A brief description of the event (Why people would want to come and any rules or other pertinent information for attendees):
  • Contact information (In Game Name and Tumblr address if available):

Submit in one of the following ways:

  1. Send it via Tumblr’s Submit feature. We will check the story and likely edit it for grammatical errors. We may send you a Google Doc version of it back if it requires additional edits. A Dramatic Change ・ までになる

This phrase is used at the end of a sentence to show when something has increased or decreased, usually ability or frequency of events. For smaller changes, use ようになる, which is more like “began”.

Literally, it means “until become”.

That’s still somewhat misleading, so lets look at some examples:

1年前はひらがなも読めなかったけど、今は薔薇のような難しい漢字も書けるまでになった。 1-Nen mae wa hiragana mo yomenakatta kedo, ima wa bara no yōna muzukashī kanji mo kakeru made ni natta.
1 year ago, I couldn’t even read hiragana, but now I can write difficult kanji characters like “rose”. (lit. one year before could not read hiragana but, now become to write difficult kanji like rose.)

私は貧しい家に生まれたが、成功してもようになった。 Watashi wa mazushī ie ni umareta ga, seikō shite mo youni natta.
Even though I was born in a poor family, I have begun to be successful.

Sorry for the short post, I’m working on something big as per anon request right now! :-)

Everything that surrounds you right now in your life, including the things you’re complaining about, you’ve attracted. Now I know at first blush that’s going to be something that you hate to hear. You’re going to immediately say, “I didn’t attract the car accident. I didn’t attract this particular client who gives me a hard time. I didn’t attract the debt. “And I’m here to be a little bit in your face and to say, yes you did attract it. This is one of the hardest concepts to get but once you’ve accepted it, it’s life transforming. - Dr. Joe Vitale -

Often when people first hear this part of the Secret they recall events in history where masses of lives were lost, and they find it incomprehensible that so many people could have attracted themselves to the event. By the law of attraction, they had to be on the same frequency as the event. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they thought of that exact event, but the frequency of their thoughts matched the frequency of the event. If people believe they can be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and they have no control over outside circumstances, those thoughts of fear, separation, and powerlessness, if persistent, can attract them to being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You have a choice right now. Do you want to believe that it’s just the luck of the draw and bad things can happen to you at any time? Do you want to believe that you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time? That you have no control over circumstances?

Or do you want to believe and know that your life experience is in your hands and that only all good can come into your life because that is the way you think? You have a choice and whatever you choose to think will become your life experience.

Nothing can come into your experience unless you summon it through persistent thoughts.  -The Secret-

What Gravitational Wave Astronomy Will Teach Us About The Universe

“We’re right on the frontiers of opening up the Universe in a brand new way. The event of September 14th detected by LIGO was only the first of what’s sure to be a massive influx of new data that will teach us about the Universe in a form of energy we’ve never directly probed before. It’s time to embrace this new form of astronomy, and to open our window on the Universe as never before. It’s an incredible time for any curious minds to be alive.”

Now that LIGO’s successfully detected it’s first gravitational waves — from two merging black holes — we know that we will find them in a variety of circumstances if we look in the right way. While LIGO and its successors will be great for exploring high-frequency events like small black hole inspirals, neutron star mergers and cataclysmic supernovae, there are other classes of gravitational wave events to look for as well: supermassive black hole orbits, galaxy mergers and even the leftover gravitational wave background from cosmic inflation. Here’s how the future of gravitational wave astronomy can unlock the secrets of all of them.

anonymous asked:

So... did Civil War happen after M-Day?

Yep. That’s why Clint’s nowhere to be found (he was recovering from being dead) and why there are so few mutants. House of M actually materially contributed to the existence of SHRA.

In the early comics they talk a bit about how regulations on all heroes but especially mutants had to be tightened to prevent another M-Day, not because humans care so very much about mutants but because M-Day followed the House Of M event, which altered the reality of the entire planet. That’s why Tony was already testifying before a Senate subcommittee about superhero registration when Stamford happened.

House of M did not just affect how the public saw mutants – it affected how the public saw all superheroes since it was emblematic of the issues with “cape” culture. Superheroes were, to the public eye, as much the cause of stuff like interstellar invasions as the shield from such things. I talked briefly about this in the introduction to Longform:

“Superheroes are tasked with the unusual, the epic, the overscale,” she said. “In the meantime, there isn’t much for them to do. And it behooves us to remember that nature abhors a vacuum. The frequency of overscale events is likely to rise in direct correlation with the number of overscale individuals present to combat it.”

In other words, the more superheroes you get, the more supervillains start appearing.

So at the start of Civil War, when Nitro blows up Stamford, there is already a heightened sensitivity to the consequences of cape behavior and the fact that capes don’t have to deal with those consequences very often. It doesn’t help that both Nitro (who did it) and Speedball (who survived it) were mutants. (I stand corrected – Speedball may have some mutations but apparently is not considered a mutant.)

This is one reason I believe mutants should have been at the core of the Civil War event.

Also I would bet you ten shiny internet dollars that if Clint hadn’t been in hiding during Civil War, it wouldn’t have happened. Because when Steve Rogers is all fucked up it’s Clint’s actual job to unfuck him

Avian malaria threatens Galapagos bird species

The Galapagos Islands may have inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, but scientists fear some of the species he observed may not be capable of adapting to new environmental challenges.

Experts say the introduction of foreign parasites to the islands and the increase in frequency of El Nino events, which scientists recently attributed to global warming, could push bird species in the Galapagos towards extinction.

“The situation is precarious,” says Dr Patricia Parker, Endowed Professor of Zoological Studies at the University of Missouri St Louis (UMSL), “particularly for species such as the Galapagos penguin, which live in very small populations.”

Anita Saarkesian forced to abandon academic talk by threats of mass murder and inadequate police support

Forced to cancel my talk at USU after receiving death threats because police wouldn’t take steps to prevent concealed firearms at the event.

— Feminist Frequency (@femfreq)

October 15, 2014

I was so proud when the Uni said they weren’t going to back down over this and they would work with security. For the police to fail in this way… No.

This is unconscionable. This is unacceptable. We cannot allow women to be LITERALLY PREVENTED FROM TALKING AT FUCKING UNIVERSITIES for fear of their lives.

And because police won’t prevent concealed firearms?

Guys, there’s a hashtag starting right now on Twitter called ‘StopGamerGate2014’. Post to it if you feel brave enough, reblog it if you don’t.

This is not OK and we need to rise with outrage.

I thought GamerGate was a joke when it started, and would die a way. The fact that it hasn’t doesn’t mean it is to be respected. It is a menace. It is a hate group. It has performed terrorist actions: death threats, driving people from their homes, threatening mass shootings, and by these methods directly prevented the sharing of ideas in an academic arena.

THIS is a direct attack on persons AND on free speech.

Anyone who is tempted to think that this is about ethics, needs to take a long hard look at themselves. You need to recognise that whether or not you agree with these actions, you have saddled your horse with terrorists.

You ARE the baddies. Accept it. Do the decent thing. Jump ship from this toxic group.

anonymous asked:

Do you think Stiles told Scott about the Stydia kiss or kept it to himself

Ah. Such a beautiful question. Thank you :)

I think Stiles wanted to tell Scott. I think that it was one of the first things he thought of once he and Lydia exited the locker room and it was hitting Stiles all over again that it had happened– which it did constantly that day, and does still, albeit with decreasing frequency.

But then the events of the season were over and they had this brief reprieve and Stiles was like, “okay. Time to tell Scott. Gotta tell Scott. The girl who I have not shut up about since I was eight literally kissed me. He needs to know.” I think he tried to tell Scott a few times, honestly. But then he realized how big it is.

And maybe they’re sitting in Scott’s kitchen while he sorts through his fridge, looking for something to quell his enormous teenage boy werewolf appetite. Maybe Stiles is sitting at the kitchen table, watching Scott, and he says “So I gotta tell you something important.” And Scott turns around and looks at him with this small, unassuming upwards curve of his lips, and Stiles thinks of the way Lydia hadn’t opened her eyes right away after the kiss, and the way her face had looked when he said she was smart.

And that’s the moment when Stiles realizes that there is no way to explain it, not any of it, and he is certain that Lydia is keeping it for herself too. Not because she didn’t want to kiss him like he wanted to kiss her, or because she’s embarrassed, but because it’s possible she felt the hugeness of it as well. And Stiles knows what he thinks that is, but he doesn’t think Lydia is on the same page. And that’s okay, because maybe it was there for both of them and there isn’t a way to get that to make sense with words. He suddenly doesn’t want to shatter the moment by speaking about it.

So instead Stiles smiles and throws an orange at Scott’s head (he catches it with ease) and says “I’m gonna kick your ass at Assassin’s Creed,” and Scott grins really big and goes “bring it” even though they both know Scott will win every round and let Stiles win one towards the very end.
