free individual

People are individuals with independent thoughts from one another.

Women don’t have an opinion as a collective

White people don’t have an opinion as a collective

Black people don’t have an opinion as a collective

Trans people don’t have an opinion as a collective

Men don’t have an opinion as a collective

Gay people don’t have an opinion as a collective

If “erasure” means anything, it means ignoring the individuals in front of you and their individual ideas by making a collectivist caricature of them. You can’t just paint over real people with a collective strawman. There is no one exact way to be like or think like any of these superficial categories of people. People are individuals with individual minds, even if we’re talking about a clone. No degree of supericial similarness = sameness. You are as unique from the people of your race, gender, and family as you are from a cat or an iceberg. More similar? Sure. Same? Not in the slightest. You’re either the exact same or you’re not, and you’re not. Think for yourself, not as a group.

Get to Know Your Deck Spread

Here’s a lovely spread for all of you out there who are new to tarot, recently received a new deck, struggle with bonding with your deck(s) and/or are having issues getting clear or understanding readings. Sometimes decks have personalities to them, they have their own likes, dislikes, alignments and even preferred ‘work’ to go into. They also often require bonding to get the most accurate smooth readings. I have explained before the differences in my decks and what they like to answer, and I know of others who struggle bonding or understanding who their decks are. This spread should be of help!

1. How is your deck feeling today? Are they in a good mood ready to work? Or are they just having an off bad day? I have found decks, like people, can have moody bad days. These days their readings may be harsher than usual or even not even slightly logical. Its good to see what mood your deck is in before using it for readings, especially readings for others (and especially if they are paying for them). This may also affect the questions they will wish to answer.

2. What element does your deck align with? All decks are different and some may align themselves with specific elements. Is your deck fire, water, earth, air, spirit or a combination of them? This may affect the manner which they read. Air decks may be more interested in giving creative advice and focus on individuality, free-spirited natures, the arts, and even love. Water decks tend to focus on emotions and seeking gentle fixes. Fire decks tend to be the most assertive, they are competitive, encouraging, brave, passionate but also tend to support the idea of feuds. Fire decks, also from my experience, tend to be very blunt about things. Earth aligned decks tend to be a bit calmer, they focus on bonds with people such as family and friendships. They also focus on careers, prosperity and money matters. Spirit decks, tend to like to do more of the ‘divine’. They focus on self-enlightenment, self discovery and communicating with supernatural forces, guides, and deities.

3. What Questions does your deck enjoy answering? Does your deck enjoy answering questions about love? Friends and family? Do they enjoy giving personal advice? Do they like money matters and career focuses. This could determine what questions they may be the most accurate and ones they will give the best advice on.

4. What Questions does your deck least like to answer? These are the questions they may not have the most accurate advice on. Such as my Rider deck greatly dislikes romance questions so I never use him for them because he will always just advice break-ups no matter the situation.

5. What is your deck’s current feelings towards you? Does your deck feel close to you? Is it a strong professional business bond? Or is it more like a friendship? Do they feel distant from you? Like you ignore them? Do they not understand you or feel like you are a stranger? Do you intimidate them?

6. How can you improve your relationship? How does your deck feel like you two can do to help build your relationship? Practice more or perhaps make spreads.

7. A Negative trait. Pretty self explanatory, this is a negative quality about your deck that it feels you have a right to know about. Take note that this is a negative trait in the mind and views of your deck, its something it feels is negative.

8. A Positive trait. Again, pretty self explanatory, this is a trait that your deck feels is a positive trait it has. Again, this is a trait seen as positive in its mind.

Why Teens Shouldn’t Run Revolutions

Hi guys. I’m going to piss off a lot of YA writers (and possibly readers) today, so hang onto your hats.

Mainly, if you’re in love with the idea of a high schooler with no strategic or combat experience heading up a revolution or war because they’re “so dedicated and determined,” don’t read this. Please, don’t. You’re not going to see anything you like. Go ahead and keep enjoying your guilty pleasure – that’s fine. I’m not going to own up to some of the guilty pleasures I love in fiction but don’t buy for a second in real life. That’s chill. Go for it, man.

But there are just things that I – and readers like me – are tired of seeing. If you’re sick of that trope, then keep reading. If you’re open to the idea of ditching that trope in your writing, then I really recommend reading.

This assessment/collection of tips on why teens shouldn’t run revolutions - and if you’re going to make them, how they CAN do it well - will include comparisons to history, other fiction (Unplugged), and Black Butler. Plus swearing and a range of incorrect capitalizations, because it’s fun.

On we go:

THE VOLTRON THINKTANK MASTERPOST
week of April 1st, 2017

Who are these people?
@butteredonions, @bosstoaster, @ashinan, @mumblefox, and @velkynkarma are five Voltron fic writers who frequently combine to form fanfic and meta and shitposts Voltron.

What happened on April 1st?
Each member of the ThinkTank opened their askbox to receive fic prompts. These were then delivered back to the fandom in the form of microfills over the next week.

Nothing else happened on April 1st?
I’m sure I don’t know what you mean ;)

You guys switched icons and pretended to be each other.
We Formed ThinkTank, excuse you.

What is this Masterpost?
The downside of all five of us posting 5-20 fills (each) on the same day: SO MUCH FIC. Together we wrote a combined 27k of words! Rather than bombard our shared followers with multiple reblogs of the same (excellent) material, we have compiled this Masterpost so we can simply reblog them all at once.

Please feel free to like or comment or reblog pieces individually to show your support! We had so much fun participating in this impromptu event. If you liked what you read please let us know! Your support means the world!

All microfills are below the cut, sorted primarily by author, then by character (and/or pairing) and/or fandom. Thanks for your support!

What house is your Uranus in? Uranus can represent freedom in the house it occupies. It also can show where brilliance could be and how you could use that to help people but there can’t be any expectations. As Uranus can also turn things upside down. Never a dull moment in the house Uranus resides.

🌟"You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star” 🌟F.N

Uranus in the 1st House~ Behavioral freedom. Do what you want and when you want to do it. You must resist the expectations of people within just about any given situation. This also means that you must have zero expectations when it comes to life itself. Just live and let live. Experiment and see what happens. Your role in life is of the livewire, capable of doing anything and at anytime.

Uranus in the 2nd House~ Financial freedom. Make your own money in the way you want to make it. Do not give into pressures to try and hold down a predictable way of making income. Find experimental, unique ways to earn money and also stay detached from a boring obsession with the material. This attitude will manifest a greater cash flow in your life, boosting your overall pleasure and self-esteem.

Uranus in the 3rd House~ Intellectual freedom. You are truly being pushed to think for yourself and in an unusual manner. Your mind can feel like it’s undergoing an endless brainstorm, filling you with all sorts of exciting ideas. Share these ideas openly with others, even if they think they’re weird, shocking, or unacceptable. Be that independent thinker; the kind of conversationalist who electrifies others.

Uranus in the 4th House~ Private freedom. You are only going to feel safe and supported when your personal space is turned upside down. Home is not home for you unless things are quite eccentric and crazy. But, there is a very comfortable rhythm to this madness and you thrive on it, even if it unnerves your loved ones. Behind closed doors, you are a maverick and often feel like the odd one out in your family.

Uranus in the 5th House~ Creative freedom. When you live in the moment, you completely throw the rule book out the window. Your creative energy is quite rebellious and unconventional. You possess a detached sort of passion that can stand back and coolly observe the drama of life unfold, all while still getting heatedly involved. You’re very hot-and-cold in matters of the heart, needing a lot of loving space.

Uranus in the 6th House~ Constructive freedom. You want to get things done in your own unusual way, experimenting with various routines. There is a method to your madness or a madness to your method, which can confuse others. You may seem to “wing it” even when you’re really calculated or vice versa. You will rebel against others’ advice unless it’s truly practical and has been tested as being so by you.

Uranus in the 7th House~ Relational freedom. In your personal connections with other people, you do not want to be controlled or suffocated. You are looking for a real give-and-take of independence and tolerance in love and friendship. You make for a rather eccentric companion and are attracted to eccentric companions. The approval of others in terms of your friends and lovers means nothing to you.

Uranus in the 8th House~ Profound freedom. When you go deep with someone or with yourself, you do not judge whatever is exposed. This makes you very tolerant when being intimate or introspective. But, you might sometimes thrive on the chaos of the darkness. You may remain detached and nonchalant about your emotional issues. But, you are also brilliantly capable of being your own therapist.

Uranus in the 9th House~ Philosophical freedom. You must develop a moral compass that is not reliant on anyone else’s issues. You can rebel against the convictions of others by insisting on your own. It’s liberating and inspiring for you to not have to follow a typical path in life. You are on your own unpredictable journey, so you must become this explorer who welcomes the weirdness around the corner.

Uranus in the 10th House~ Professional freedom. It is your mission to make a living and a calling out of being a free spirit. You have to pursue the goals in life that you really think are worthwhile, instead of surrendering to society’s expectations, building your reputation as a nonconformist. Career success will be highly unexpected, in its coming and going. Your ideal profession feels like an endless experiment.

Uranus in the 11th House~ Universal freedom. You are not just freeing yourself but freeing everyone around you. By releasing all expectations, you’re not only welcoming the random, unusual elements of life your way but giving others free reign to be individuals. This makes you a full-on individual in all of your quirkiness. Yet, you are an excellent collaborator, with a very progressive, brilliant view of the big picture.

Uranus in the 12th House~ Spiritual freedom. You must detach from conventional expectations of humanity and the Higher Power, understanding how weird we all can be and how unpredictable the Universe is. Your own eccentricities work in mysterious ways, through a genius insight into alternative forms of spirituality, wild and erratic fantasies/dreams, and/or artistic talents that are from another planet.

America's Education System

You know what school teaches you? It doesn’t efficiently teach you how to get along with people, pay taxes, ace a job interview or even more importantly: be happy with yourself when others aren’t, know that you don’t need a significant other to be fulfilled, or that everyone is equal. You know what school teaches you? School teaches you to be a homework machine, to spit out worksheets and keep formulas in your head until the next test. It teaches you how to stay up late studying things you don’t even understand and sacrificing time with your family to put yet another number on your transcript. It teaches you to volunteer not because you care, but because colleges like people who volunteer. It teaches you to follow all their rules and then you get into the world and people wonder why everyone is the same, dull person.

I really wish Dragon Age fans would understand that “Moral Greyness” can be JUST as contrived and convoluted as regular “Black and White” and “Happy Ending.”

Just look at the Mage/Templar Conflict. The devs have tried their darnedest across three and a half games to present the conflict as 100% balanced with both sides equally sympathetic, and they’ve failed each time. The devs have said they felt they made the mages look “too sympathetic” in the first game. For the second game they realized too late that making the player character come from a family of apostates and have two mage companions but no Templars made Templars look bad; and they fully admitted that Leandra getting killed by a crazy blood mage serial killer was an attempt to vindicate a pro-Templar playthrough. DAI? Well, we all know about THAT… (Retconning the Dalish to have a “three mages max” rule just to make Circles look better by comparison?) All to make a flimsy, “See? Both sides are equally flawed” argument that’s as sturdy as cardboard; blow on it, and it falls over.

Just look at The Masked Empire verses Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. In the book, the human nobles are all completely despicable, racist, genocidal asses, while Briala (and Felassan to a lesser extent) is the most sympathetic and likable character. Briala is a straight-up hero who struggles to help her people despite knowing they won’t thank her for it, and being shit on by everyone she meets right and left.

In DAI, the devs flat-out hid the many crimes and character flaws of Celene and Gaspard, and hid many of the virtues and character strengths of Briala. Why? To create a flimsy and false “All three choices are equally morally gray!” so-called “choice.”

Just look at the Qunari. You can tell the devs have been trying their damnedest from game one to depict Qunari culture as rather alien and incomprehensible to outsiders and vice-versa, but still a good system with its balances of virtues and flaws like any other. And it never works.

And any time players complain about an aspect of their culture, they try to fix it next game. Sten said “women don’t fight”? In DA2 they’re like, “JK! Since the Priesthood allows both genders, we just made up this secret spy division of the Ben’Hassrath that allows female assassins. Please love our Qunari.“ When that didn’t work, in DAI they went overtime trying to make Iron Bull THE most likable character they could, then had him lend his charisma to explain away Qunari societal faults. Plus the whole “transgender acceptance” and “free love” and “Tamassran are still like family” thing, and the sudden, “Oh, the Qunari don’t REALLY keep women from fighting. If a woman is discovered to be good in combat, they just decide he’s a man who happens to look like a woman and let “him” fight. Please love our Qunari!”

And it’s NEVER WORKED. I mean, some small minority of weirdos like Qunari despite their flaws (myself included), but MOST players just find these flimsy attempts at “MORAL GREYNESS!!!” to be just that: flimsy.

So whenever I talk about a plot hole or character failing in the series, I’m so sick to death of seeing that go-to, knee-jerk, catch-all “moral grayness” excuse.

Yes. Sometimes, when written well, a morally grey conflict can be very engaging. But sometimes some characters or divisions naturally come across as more sympathetic than another. I’m not saying “one side is innocent and perfect and other other guilty and evil,” but sometimes one side comes across as a lighter shade of grey than another; it happens. If the devs would just embrace that and run with it and tell emotionally engaging stories, instead of spending so much time and energy trying to constantly backpedal or force a square peg in a round hole just for the sake of that original vision that just isn’t coming through.

- You can’t make a conflict where one heavily tyrannical and abusive faction holds complete power over another as a perfectly 50/50 “morally grey conflict” where “both sides are equally at fault.”

- You can’t take the freedom-fighting victim of horrific systematic abuse by two perpetrators of that horrific system and try to act like she’s “just as bad” or “on the same footing” as those abusers.

You can’t take a culture that thrives on robbing individuality, stripping free will, brainwashing resisters, and severely limiting the roles of its citizens based on their gender, magical ability, etc. and expect our modern freedom- and individuality-loving society to find them anything but restrictive and tyrannical.

“Moral Grey” can be just as CONTRIVED as any attempt at “black and white” or “happily-ever-after.” Because they’re still trying to force something that doesn’t fit.

Proposed four-party system for the US
  • Socialist - Healthcare for all, education for all, housing for all, and if you want to take advantage of our giant consumer market or our talented workforce, you better help pay for it.
  • Centrist - America is mostly okay right now and it would be unwise to shake things up too much, too fast.  Let’s work within the system for gradual progress without damaging the institutions we have.
  • Libertarian - Government is here to build roads, enforce contracts, and provide national defense.  But it’s not suited to micromanage the country.  The free market, individual choice, and local organizations will come up with better-optimized solutions.
  • Traditionalist - Without American culture and values, America is just a place on a map.  This isn’t about race or religion or sexuality per se, but if you’re not a straight white Christian, it’s your responsibility to adapt to traditional American culture, not to try and change it.

Advantages:

  • Actually represents the segments of political belief better than the current parties.
  • Potential for cooperation across current party lines, for example Libertarians and Socialists agreeing to oppose the war on drugs.
  • Hopefully no one party would get 50% of seats in Congress, meaning every decision would require substantive discussion and compromise.
  • Party loyalty would hopefully be less ironclad and less able to divide communities.
  • Government not doing the weird dualism thing where if Democrats believe X, Republicans have to believe not-X, even when it’s absurd.
  • Fewer situations where voting is all about “the lesser evil.”
  • In general, fewer situations where game theory runs things instead of the actual needs and wants of the people.

Disadvantages:

  • I just invented the Centrist party and I already think they’re a load of lukewarm tilapia filets.
  • Terrifying prospects for what the Traditionalist party will turn into without the Libertarians to hold them back.
  • I didn’t do much reading about real multi-party systems before writing this so there’s probably a lot of fascinating ways it would break in real life.

Shout out to all the trans aces who:

  • Don’t feel ‘truly’ asexual because you don’t know whether your dysphoria is having an affect on your sexuality
  • Feel that your trans-ness can’t be removed from your ace-ness but are told it should be
  • Don’t feel comfortable in hypersexual LGBT spaces
  • Have had your asexuality invalidated by people who say you can’t be ace and trans
  • Have had your trans-ness invalidated by people who say you can’t be ace and trans
  • Are happy that you’re trans and ace
  • Are sad that you’re trans and ace

Your feelings are valid. Your identities are valid. And you are amazing (ace, even!).

ten days of minimalistic living

have you ever wanted to add something to improve your life? like consistent exercise or clean eating? if you have, that’s great! you’re already 50% there.

however, have you ever thought about removing elements of your life instead of adding elements? if you have, you’re now 75% there.

if you haven’t, don’t worry, let me explain.

instead of adding elements to improve your life, minimalistic living aims at subtracting elements to improve your life. it targets areas in which you can simplify your life in the most easiest and effective fashion.

so with that being said, i’ve compiled 10 one-day assignments to help you begin your journey into minimalist living.

1. designate an hour for “you time”

choose a secluded place where you can disconnect from the virtual world. focus on what it feels like to be at peace and, if you feel inclined, jot down your intimate thoughts and feelings in a journal.

2. no complaints, no not today

complaining can easily become a habit. however, today try your best to not get frustrated at the man who is taking forever to order in front of you at starbucks or the woman who is walking too slowly in front of you.

3. clear out your email inbox

you know that email subscription you signed up for? the one that sends you emails all the time, but you forget to delete the emails or unsubscribe yourself from receiving future emails? yeah, you know the one. well, take time today to make your inbox spick and span.

4. disconnect and dream

instead of taking your phone to bed with you to check social media posts from besties and celebrities, leave your phone on your desk. your body needs sleep. social media will be there tomorrow morning.

5. remove one item from your to do list

you could probably complete everything on your to do list, but doing so may leave you burned out by the end of the day. so instead, choose the most important assignments and leave out the last one.

6. listen instead of waiting for your turn to speak

when talking to a friend, a family member, or a colleague, actually listen to what he/she is saying, then respond.

7. eat a meal without watching a movie or show

it’s easy to make dinner then plop on a couch with a plate full of food to watch your favorite netflix show. however, watching a show takes away from the eating experience. instead, sit and eat while paying attention to how the food actually tastes.

8. turn off notifications

notifications can easily interfere with your day. so for today, only check your social media accounts when necessary.

9. make two lists

make one list of things that make you happy. then make another list of things you do every day. adjust accordingly.

10. wake up an hour earlier

although you may classify yourself as a night owl, try becoming a morning person for one day. hop out of bed, make yourself a cup of coffee, and begin to conquer the day. you’ll be amazed at how much work you can complete with waking up one hour earlier.

if you try out any of these assignments and you show progress, feel free to individually message me. i would love to hear your story.

do have a lovely week ♥

I'm so frustrated. I feel like the writers really did Kara dirty this season. There's so much that they could do with her, but they just waste all of that potential away. I really, really hope they actually get themselves together for season 3. This show can be so much better than what it is now.

Attention, Tumblr. This is motorcyclegirlfriends, and…

We have been attacked.

Shippers and non-shippers. Friends and neighbors. Children… Everyone. Suddenly stopped by forces of evil, as great as this show has ever known.

Your attacker has sought to take Kara’s free will. Kara’s individuality. Kara’s spirit. Everything that makes Kara who she is.

When facing an attack like this, it’s easy to feel hopeless.

We retreat. Lose our strength… lose ourselves.

I know.

I lost everything when I was on Once Upon a Time.

When I first landed on this show, I was sad and alone. But I found out that there is so much love in this show. In there for the taking. And you, the people of tumblr, you helped me.

You let this blog be what it’s meant to be. You gave me back to myself. You made me stronger than I ever thought possible. And I love you for that.

Now, in each and every one of you, there is a light- a spirit- that cannot be snuffed out. That won’t give up.

I need your help again.

Kara needs you… to hope.

That you will remember that you can all be heroes.

That when faced with an enemy determined to destroy Kara’s spirit, that you will fight back and she will thrive.

That those who once may have shunned you will, in a moment of crisis, come to Kara’s aid.

That we will see the face again of the Kara we love. And perhaps… even the other characters we’ve lost.
