Last mission of Dishonored 2. Instead of coming back to Dunwall in ruins, its beautiful. Rose bushes everywhere, streets of marble. Statues of Delilah are everywhere and the towns people are admiring them. There are no guards cause why would there need to be? Nothing bad happens here.
Its once you get closer that it begins to be off. Get close enough to the roses and you realize that its growing from a corpse of someone who had gone missing the other week. The statues follow everyone, and everyone knows they need to speak nicely about them or else. There are no guards but there are many woman with flowers growing from their skin wandering around. I was thinking about all those “humans are weird” posts going around and one idea I had (which has probably been done before but whatever) is that I wonder what aliens would think about humans’ tendency to try to rescue dangerous animals.
Like, I’ve seen so many videos of people carefully maneuvering themselves to not get mauled by some giant wolf or something they’re trying to free from a trap, and it made me think how BEWILDERING that might be for an alien and what POSSIBLE conclusion they would come to about our survival instincts if we make a habit of putting life and limb on the line to rescue apex predators that often are Actually trying to kill us WHILE we’re helping them
Person A of your OTP is a vampire and is next in line to lead the clan. Person B is a lone werewolf who was kicked out of their pack (you decide why). One night, person A goes on a hunting trip by themselves, but end up getting caught in some sort of trap. They are stuck there for however many days until they are nearly starving to death. Person B finds them and, instead of killing them like anyone else from their pack would, they hunt for food for person A and try to help them. Although person A is very unsure/terrified of person B at first, they are so starving that they accept the food with next to no hesitation, despite being raised to never trust werewolves. As person B tries to free person A from the trap, they start to talk and get to know each other, slowly starting to bond with each other. When A is finally free, they ask to see B again in secret, despite the disapproval of their clan. What happens next is up to you.
(Context: They are going through a wizard’s lair to free a town from a spell. Among the trapped villagers is Annie, a party member who couldn’t be there that night.)
Players: *realize this dungeon isn’t going to be a walk in the park*
Rogue: Guys should we just leave?
Paladin OOC: Can we even do that?
DM (me): I mean technically yes, there’s nothing stopping you
Rogue: We should just leave
Sorcerer: But what about Annie?
Paladin: I’m sure it’ll be fine
Sorcerer: You’re right. Let’s leave
DM: Ok, so you leave the dungeon, abandoning the town to its fate including your friend. Congratulations, you just doomed your friend and now I have to come up with some excuse for her being free so she doesn’t have to roll new character. We’re stopping there.
I really like how there are so many different ways to read and interpret this chapter, so I’m throwing in another wild guess. I know the fandom consensus is that Seungbae isn’t much of a help and that this nightmare is foreshadowing, and I find that very likely. However I see another way to read this situation. Seungbae leaves a weapon behind for Bum because only he can free himself from this situation. But this is Bum’s mind, and he feels trapped and helpless, so even a gun becomes useless in his hands. Maybe the gun wasn’t loaded because he doesn’t believe in it. He doesn’t believe that he can be saved.
HEY you should write a smut about the reader sending a naughty vid to dan/phil while they’re gone to YouTube or something and then dan/Phil get off to it :3 -Anon
They say that the honeymoon phase in relationships only lasts about two years. Well, yourself and Dan had gone way past the two years mark and the both of you were still head over heals for each other. It always sucked when he was gone for work. When he was on tour you were sure your heart was missing for the two months he was away. He had only been gone for three days this time but it was still killer. It was never the same waking up alone in bed. You almost poured a cup of tea for him this morning before remembering he was gone for another two days. Texting him was hard because the time difference in LA was stupid. Plus the fact he and Phil were crazy busy filming with everyone and anyone. The last conversation you had with him was at seven in the morning for him but three in the afternoon for yourself. It was a killer trying to text him at appropriate times in the day.

The minute Y/N watched the pilot’s spitfire crash into the ocean, she felt her heart drop. There was someone in there, and she may have just witnessed death for the first time. It may be nothing compared to some of the things the men they were going to save had seen, but for her, this was a first.
She heard her brother, Peter, arguing with her father over whether the fallen spitfire was worth going after.
“He could be alive!” the sound of her own voice startled her, she thought about her older brother and her stomach clenched with anxiety. He could be alive.
A few of the Avengers watched from a safe distance, waiting
for their leader to make a decision.
Tony nudged Sam, gesturing subtly for the younger man to approach his
friend. Eyes wide, Sam shook his head,
quickly stepping behind Natasha and giving her a gentle push in Steve’s
direction. She whipped around, glaring,
before sending a meaningful look at Tony, who snorted. Steve’s voice broke the silence and halted
the silent argument that was happening across the room.
“Suit up. We’ll head
out in ten.”
Relieved that none of them had to actually engage the
agitated man, the group nodded before heading towards the elevator. No one really knew what to say.
After all, it wasn’t every day that a top-secret Hydra
fortress was discovered.
Somehow, someway, Hydra had a castle. A castle, hidden in the
snowy mountains of Europe. One of the
best kept secrets of the inner circles of Hydra, Castle Santis was rarely
documented and no one but a select few knew what actually happened there. Tony had intercepted a message between one of
Hydra’s higher officers ordering transport of “the gift” to an undisclosed
location. After that, it had been a
simple matter of sending in a few Starktech drones to do reconnaissance. A few hours later, they had a confirmed
location. After that, it was just a
matter of whether or not they should actually go.
For all they knew, it could be a trap meant to lure them
into the middle of nowhere. Or, it could
be a huge mistake to let this “gift” be moved before they had a chance to
neutralize any potential threats. The
whole team had discussed it at length before deciding it was a decision best
left to Steve. Exasperated, the super
soldier had spent hours deep in thought.
But he had reached a decision and the team was going.
When was the last time he didn’t feel helpless and weak? How did it all come to the point when he could do nothing to free himself from the trap they had caught him in. They? Who were they? They would say he had done it all by himself. Yeah, he didn’t have much of a choice now, but had he had it in the beginning? When his father had left his mother and she had begun drinking and drugging herself into oblivion? What choice had he had then? He had grown up and had done it the only way he knew. What choice had he had when they hadn’t had money to buy food and the gang had given him an opportunity to rise to something better? Back then Blue Hawaii had been his only chance to stay alive, to keep his mother alive because no one had known about the nightmare his life had been. What was his choice now when he desperately wanted to rise again, to be out of this new kind of nightmare?
Where did he search for his chance? Where did he search for his choice?

MINOR WARNING: Manipulation and hints to brainwashing
The heart is something you can never lie to. Its immediate connection to the subdued corners of your mind force it to be a merciless mirror to your deepest thoughts. It is the statement of the rawness of your very self. The heart is an unchangeable, constant supply of truth.
That is, of course, unless Darkiplier comes along.
The twisted, poised behavior and the venom in his eyes always seems to confuse you. The nature of your being becomes consumed by the shadows of his intent. The intensity of him simply swallows you, leaving you an empty carcass of what you once were. When he is near, your heart doesn’t know what it wants. And yet when he leaves, you always find yourselves craving for his return. Why?
Perhaps when he looks down upon you with that burning carnal stare, you feel wanted. When his body comes close to your own as a grab for power, you feel needed. When he whispers sweet honey into your ear, you feel loved. But deep down you know it all means nothing to him. Deep down, you know you’re another faceless pawn. And yet even deeper down you feel drawn to him as if captured by some spell.
His presence is overwhelming, but you crave it. You’ve buried a hope inside of you that somehow he’ll treat you differently than he treats all the others. That you’ll see a change in him. Only for you. That’s why that cold thrill of excitement rolled through you when you saw the shadowed oily outline of his figure appearing in your room. Perhaps today would be the day he finally treated you differently.
His body came together like a painting. Fragments of reality built up his legs in glitchy tendrils of smoke, up his hips and swimming along his abdomen. Color began to leak into him half-hazardly, showing crisp navy blue pin-striped dress pants. His tuxedo was the same. A formed grey vest tucked to his chest was the next to be revealed, as well as the black button down undershirt to finish the suave of his outfit. Pale grey skin extended to fingers that were built and strong. Smooth flesh of the neck lifted to a stone chiseled jawline mottled by a scratchy small beard. Gleaming crimson eyes pierced into you through waves of black hair. The shadows disappeared as a man stood before you in his proud glory. But was he truly a man?
You could hear his voice begin in your mind before he even opened his mouth, creating an eerie echo effect.
His tone purred as he spoke, obviously admiring the way your body shivered and adjusted in response to his growls. He maintained plenty distance from you, and instead invaded your personal space with just how harshly he stared you down. You watched as he slowly rubbed his lips together.
“I know you’ve been thinking of me. I can see it there, in your mind. It’s displayed to me like thin glass, so easy to observe, so beautiful, yet… just too delicate to touch.”
You didn’t exactly recall him stepping closer. You had blinked your eyes, and in that small moment he had suddenly become much larger, abruptly looming so near to you with his hands relaxed behind his back. It startled you. You could feel your heart pounding as it vibrated against the base of your ribs. You tried to imagine yourself denying the fact that you had been desiring his presence, but some unseen force fought back, and blocked you from doing so. Instead, a distant high pitched ringing stood in its place.
“If only you understood just how futile your efforts are.”
He spoke almost affectionately, but as you looked up to him, you could see the malice buried there beneath his skin.
“You try so hard to lock me away to a place where I cannot reach you. You fight away my influence as if it isn’t exactly what you want.”
Your heart became confused again as it fought against your brain. Some strange thoughts that didn’t feel quite like your own urged you to give yourself to him. They held a desperation that you had never felt before. The thoughts promised that doing so would give you what you craved. You would become special to him. You would make him a better man. He would truly love you.
You suddenly felt warmth against the nape of your neck, along the sensitive curve of your shoulder. You realized that Dark’s face now hovered dangerously close to you, lips dangling beside your ear. You could hear the deep, slow inhales of him. But his hands remained behind his back. He seemed to almost challenge you to the game of cat and mouse.
“But I know exactly what you need.”
“Every desire of yours is presented to me. Let me control those desires. Let me give them to you. I can offer you everything that your mind doesn’t even realize it requires.”
You felt another shiver. This is exactly what you had been wanting the second he left the last time. The thoughts followed you like a disease. The pull of his eyes, the sound of his voice. It had taken apart every aspect of reality and made it meaningless. Ever since he first came to you, you could tell you had been altered. But it didn’t matter. You had been made for the better.
“Let me in.”
You deserved to be his. It was so clear that the only true path and meaning behind yourself was him. His offers would change everything. A sense of comfort overwhelmed you, as you could feel the very walls of your mind beginning to break and shatter. His energy began to leak into you, like his very presence was beginning to drown you. You wanted him to drown you. You needed him to. You could see his canine grin in the corner of your vision. You was smiling because he loved you. He was smiling because he was going to make everything so perfect.
But something small came from the back of your mind. The tiniest challenger to the wave of power overtaking you. It spoke one small word.
You blinked once. Like a hurricane, emotion and thoughts returned to you as you gained your reality. The breaking glass of your subconscious hardened to bricks, forcibly removing Dark’s energy from you.
Dark stepped back with a grunt as if he had just been physically struck. You could feel the warmth of your own thoughts wash over you like a blanket of comfort. Your head was your own. You cast a glare towards the man who had caused you such turmoil, but below that glare was knowing pain.
Darkiplier didn’t look much defeated to his inability to claim you. In fact, he offered you a rather pleasant, amused smile.
“We’ll try some other time, Lovely.”
He chuckled, and black shadows eagerly consumed him from his shoes upwards. The last thing you saw were his eyes as his body was rid from your room.
You stood there alone, as your rage slowly gave way to fear. How long would it be before the loop would start again? How many more minutes of your untouched mind did you have left? You thought of your family, the family that worried so much about you but didn’t understand what was happening to you. You thought of your friends, the friends that had pushed away from you as your obsession with Dark became inevitable. You thought of your life, that you no longer were able to live.
No. No. You could feel it again, lingering there like pressure at the base of your scalp. It wanted to begin again. The loop. You were too exhausted to fight it.
You wanted so badly for him to stay away from you. You wanted so badly
to be free from whatever horrible trance he had trapped you in. You
wanted to experience your own world again. You wanted–

“Esoteric philosophy admits neither good nor evil per se, as existing independently in nature. The cause for both is found, as regards the Kosmos, in the necessity of contraries or contrasts, and with respect to man, in his human nature, his ignorance and passions. There is no devil or the utterly depraved, as there are no Angels absolutely perfect, though there may be spirits of Light and of Darkness; thus LUCIFER – the spirit of Intellectual Enlightenment and Freedom of Thought – is metaphorically the guiding beacon, which helps man to find his way through the rocks and sandbanks of Life, for Lucifer is the LOGOS in his highest, and the “Adversary” in his lowest aspect – both of which are reflected in our Ego.” (Vol. 2, p. 162)
“In antiquity and reality, Lucifer, or Luciferus, is the name of the angelic Entity presiding over the light of truth as over the light of the day. In the great Valentinian gospel Pistis Sophia it is taught that of the three Powers emanating from the Holy names of the Three Tριδυνάμεις, that of Sophia (the Holy Ghost according to these gnostics – the most cultured of all) resides in the planet Venus or Lucifer.” (Vol. 2, p. 512)
“It is but natural – even from the dead letter standpoint – to view Satan, the Serpent of Genesis, as the real creator and benefactor, the Father of Spiritual mankind. For it is he who was the “Harbinger of Light,” bright radiant Lucifer, who opened the eyes of the automaton created by Jehovah, as alleged; and he who was the first to whisper: “in the day ye eat thereof ye shall be as Elohim, knowing good and evil” – can only be regarded in the light of a Saviour. An “adversary” to Jehovah the “personating spirit,” he still remains in esoteric truth the ever-loving “Messenger” (the angel), the Seraphim and Cherubim who both knew well, and loved still more, and who conferred on us spiritual, instead of physical immortality – the latter a kind of static immortality that would have transformed man into an undying Wandering Jew”.” (Vol. 2, p. 243)
“The Fall was the result of man’s knowledge, for his “eyes were opened.” Indeed, he was taught Wisdom and the hidden knowledge by the “Fallen Angel,” for the latter had become from that day his Manas, Mind and Self-consciousness. In each of us that golden thread of continuous life – periodically broken into active and passive cycles of sensuous existence on Earth, and super-sensuous in Devachan – is from the beginning of our appearance upon this earth. It is the Sutratma, the luminous thread of immortal impersonal monadship, on which our earthly lives or evanescent Egos are strung as so many beads – according to the beautiful expression of Vedantic philosophy.”
“And now it stands proven that Satan, or the Red Fiery Dragon, the “Lord of Phosphorus” (brimstone was a theological improvement), and Lucifer, or “Light-Bearer,” is in us: it is our Mind – our tempter and Redeemer, our intelligent liberator and Saviour from pure animalism. Without this principle – the emanation of the very essence of the pure divine principle Mahat (Intelligence), which radiates direct from the Divine mind – we would be surely no better than animals.” (Vol. 2, p. 513)
So we see that in the teachings of Theosophy – which are at times deliberately symbolical, allegorical, and esoteric – the Lightbringer or Bringer of Dawn (Lucifer in Latin) is our Mind Principle, our individual self-consciousness and spark of intelligence, which was awakened in mankind around the middle period of the Third Root Race, also known as the Lemurian Epoch. Our mind can either be our adversary (which is what the word “satan” literally means) or it can be the lightbearer (the Lucifer) of spiritual Truth to us, the knowledge of which brings about our liberation from ignorance, including spiritual self-ignorance.
Jose M. Herrou Aragon, in his book “Primordial Gnosis: The Forbidden Religion,” writes…
“According to Gnostic legends and myths, the great Unknowable God sent Lucifer, angel of indescribable fire and light, to show man the light and to help him wake up and see his true origin, the origin of his Spirit, which has been perversely imprisoned in this impure matter called body-soul. He is an uncreated being, who came to the created world to bring Light: Liberating Gnosis. The saving knowledge which can wake man up and help him free his imprisoned Spirit. The knowledge which allows him to know who he truly is, why he is here in this world and what he has to do to liberate himself and fulfil his Spirit, which belongs to another uncreated and unknowable plane.
“We have said that Lucifer came to the world to wake man up, to help him remember his divine origin, the divine origin of his Spirit, and to help him free himself from the body-soul in which he is trapped, and from created time and matter.”
Theosophy interprets all these allegorical Gnostic teachings as referring to “the lighting up of Manas” (Manas is the Sanskrit word for Mind) which we mentioned above. When we bear in mind that “The Secret Doctrine” teaches that the Lemurian Root Race was born under the influence of Venus and received its “light and life” from the Planetary Spirit of Venus, it all becomes clearer, since Lucifer has been an accepted synonym for Venus – the bright and morning star – since long before the days of Christian theology and millennia before Lucifer was first ignorantly equated with the devil.
Do you agree with Linkspooky meta about chapter 125?
Drawing me into the tumblr drama, eh, anon?
Because we have very different interpretations of the overall trajectory the series is going to take, our views are naturally inimical, and I don’t really want to start anything that might be considered ‘beef’, because you see…
But you did ask, and fandom’s full of debate, right? Because it’s quite a lengthy meta and I want to provide a sufficient rebuttal, this post is pretty comprehensive and/or exhaustive.
Along with theme-related disagreements, there are two major things in the meta that I take issue with: 1) It
presents a lot of assumptions as fact without making the case for them, and 2)
It expects Ishida’s moral system and values to match the analyst’s own, even if
there isn’t any evidence for it. I’ll be coming back to these two here and then.
Early on in the meta it makes the argument that the final panel is unlikely to be a 19 because usually reversed Tarot are simply presented as upside down in the manga whereas this one is mirrored. But later, it goes on to argue the case for it being a 16, even though no matter how the image is moved, the 16 will remain in the wrong order, whereas at least in a mirror a 19 can clearly be made out. For that reason I would definitely say a 19 is more likely and could possibly even reflect (lol) Kaneki and Touka’s parallel development.
“Sex isn’t really a net positive or a net negative, it’s just neutral”
This is really just
a personal opinion stated as fact, and ignores the very real and very powerful
emotional charge of 125. Such an objective view is far from universal, and in
many circles sex is triumphed as the ultimate form of love, which, I think, is
closer to what Ishida’s view is, judging from the care and dedication he took
to drawing 125. And again:
“having sex doesn’t really resolve any of Kaneki and Touka’s
This reduces the
act to just a quick shag without acknowledging the clear emotional significance
of the experience for both the characters, proved both in the chapter and
beyond it. Sex does really resolve their issues when both of their issues
revolve around the need to be loved. The comment is a subtle reductio ad absurdum
which tries to instantly dismiss an argument without really fighting it.
“Having sex, or advancing their relationship might solve their
relationship arc, but it’s tangential to their individual character
underplays 125′s significance and the enormous impact a sexual-romantic
relationship can have on one’s character - it seems like it’s trying to
clinically separate the two when, the way I see it, the relationship arc has
become a major part of their individual characters now. Just look at the ending
narration for Ch 131: “A reminder that the two of them were
once two”, i.e. they are now one.
“Kaneki isn’t really experiencing a happiness of his inner spirit
though, considering he started crying in the middle of sex and could not
This is another example of stating assumption as fact. I really don’t
why everyone assumes crying has to be a negative
thing when tears of joy are a well-established concept. He leans into
passionately kiss Touka right afterwards, so why do people assume his heart
isn’t in it? I would argue that he does explain why, but
chooses not to do so with the unreliability of words, but the certainty of
action in the kiss. And again, with evidence from recent chapters, he’s
clearly drawing strength from his relationship with Touka in trying times for
“There’s also the fact that they’re having this sex in the darkness,
with black borders around the panels and constant cut to black. I hope this
makes a good case for why I think the sun isn’t exactly the perfect fit for
Not really, because
the final page of the chapter is bathed in light, specifically for the sake of
showing the illumination in their lives, the way I see it. Furthermore, the
panel specifically makes use of that darkness to make it seem as though light
is emanating from Touka over the naked Kaneki, strongly paralleling the Sun
The darkness does in fact serve one of the purposes the meta argues for
- to close them off from the rest of the world. But even then the
interpretation of that feature feels unnecessarily cruel. It goes on to argue
that Kaneki and Touka are being selfish for forgetting the troubles of the
outside world for this one brief moment. Considering everything they’ve been
through, and all the incredible effort they’ve put in (and are still putting
in, as the following chapters prove), to punish them for relaxing for a few hours
just seems brutally unfair. Like yelling at Churchill for pouring a brandy in his room after a day hard spent towards the war effort. If this was just sex for the sake of distraction,
then why dedicate a whole chapter to it? Why focus so deeply on the strength of
the emotions involved, and why portray it so beautifully? As we have seen from
the following chapters, no-one has suffered as a result of their actions,
Kaneki and Touka are still working diligently for the future of the Ghoul, and
in fact this experience has strengthened Kaneki’s resolve to
fulfil his duty as the One-Eyed King rather than undermined it.
That white hair is
Giri, not Ninjo. Kaneki stuck his head in the sand as Haise and wilfully
rejected the greater concerns of the world as the Black Reaper, but his sense
of duty now is stronger than ever by working in tandem with his feelings rather
than against them. Having one night of relaxation with a loved one is in no way
a neglectful failure of duty, especially when it’s only improved his work
The next part
doesn’t really make much sense to me:
“In a way it’s an unequal love because Touka can never value Kaneki the
way Kaneki wants to use her, as a reason to live, as a symbol for all the good
things that make life worth living.”
Yet not that long ago I was arguing against a meta by the same author
claiming Touka had an unhealthy and unrequited fixation with Kaneki. Touka
definitely wants to be a source of support to Kaneki, but that’s because she
wants to return the favour for how he once supported her, knowing how much of a
difference it makes first-hand. What we’re seeing with Kaneki now is not all
that different to what we were seeing with Touka back in the original manga’s
first half, and as such, it is both equal and balanced. I’ve just seen so many
stretches from people trying to find ways to claim their relationship is unhealthy,
when there’s barely been any circumstantial evidence to suggest
that, let alone definitive. If you’re shooting from a tragic axis, then focus
on all those death-flags in recent chapters instead - even though I think
they’re red herrings, they’re at least more substantial than this ‘toxic
love’ angle I keep hearing about.
“That being said, defining yourself entirely by the relationships you
have in your life and trying to keep them around is in and of itself a
And see, this goes back to my major issue #2 with this meta. This is
just a personal opinion. There really has been very little in the manga to
suggest that Ishida thinks the same. I hear this statement like it’s a given
truth, but really Tokyo Ghoul has been much more focused on finding the right people to rely on than giving up
on them altogether. The concepts of both :re and Anteiku are heavily lauded by
all upright characters in the series and by the series itself; both Kaneki and
Hinami’s lives going off the rails upon leaving them and various troubled lives
finding peace within them – Yoshimura, Amon, Akira, and pretty much all of
Goat. These two cafes are founded on the story’s very heart, the current series
even being named after the latter, and they are institutions that represent
community and family, not strong-willed independence. Both Touka and Kaneki
have been punished for trying to take that latter route and are now only now
feeling something close to peace because they have embraced the former. The
whole struggle between Humans and Ghouls exist because they reject interspecies relationships and
stubbornly persist on their own path and their own way of being. So for that
reason, I highly doubt Ishida shares the same individualist outlook, whether
you consider that to be personally right or not. His sympathies, and those of
the series, lie on a more communal and social axis – a kind-of “power of
friendship” for adults, acknowledging the rocky roads that relationships can go
down, but for the sake of both parties, insisting that they’re worth preserving
nonetheless. Tokyo Ghoul triumphs ultimate interpersonal understanding over
individual integrity as the way forward for societies and ourselves.
“At it’s core it’s a struggle of people from two different worlds trying desperately to connect.”
This bit I agree with! Touken is a microcosm of Ghouls and Humans trying to understand each other. Only because to me the relationship seems so clearly positive, I take that as a symbol of hope for the triumph of peace between Ghouls and Humans as has been the goal from the series start. :re is not the same story as the original was and so is free from its trappings of Tragedy; making it possible to view its developments under a very different, and in my opinion more precise, lens.
“Re: and Anteiku before it was a place where both of them were sheltered and allowed to be mostly innocent to the world.”
No, not really. Touka dealt with her father being killed and lived on the streets as a predatory Ghoul before coming to Anteiku, and even when she was there she became embroiled in Investigator-killing and various loved ones put at risk of death. During Kaneki’s time at Anteiku a loving mother was murdered before his eyes, he fought a Dove who detested his very existence, he was almost made into a meal twice by an insane cannibal who pretended to be his friend, and he was kidnapped and tortured for two weeks. In no way can they possibly be considered to be innocent to the world during their time at Anteiku, and the claim holds even less water when referring to :re after everything they’ve been through in the first series. It’s an attempt to paint Anteiku and :re in a negative light when there really isn’t one.
“At some point theoretically the idea is that Touka and Kaneki will decide for themselves what they view as right and wrong, rather than following simply what Yoshimura or Arima told them, or endlessly substituting new parental figures to guide them.”
This is again a substitution of the analyst’s own rhetoric over Ishida’s concepts. Yoshimura’s ideology has no need to be replaced, because the story has only ever lauded his stance, and Touka is clearly benefiting from following his ideology (calmer, wiser, gentler) as well as providing a positive influence to others (through creating a home for them in :re). Yoshimura’s legacy ought to be honoured and not simply thrown away because it’s not Touka’s original idea; no ideologies really are original - you pick up everything from somewhere. Touka has chosen of her own will to adopt Yoshimura’s ways because she has seen firsthand the good it can do people. She’s not blindly obedient - she is capable of thinking otherwise and disagreeing with Yoshimura, as she did plenty in the original series, concerning how to deal with the Doves, Kaneki’s kidnapping, and his decision to save Touka from the Anteiku Raid - so why should her growing respect for his ways now be childlike deferral? Kaneki likewise has his own reasons for continuing Arima’s legacy, as Ishida has taken care to point out for us:
Kaneki is equally capable of turning against his mentor as he demonstrated when he physically fought against Arima. Respecting and adopting other people’s ideas is no great sin if it appeals to your already present sense of right and wrong, as is the case with both of these two. As for the parental figures part, that returns to the “finding the right people” argument I made earlier. Young people have a natural need for an older generation to guide them as they come into their own, as they have now. Demanding that they leave that hole in their heart empty as they continue to make poor, uninformed decisions is like telling a child to skip high school and go straight to work. Both Yoshimura and Arima have made a great contribution towards these two finding their own identities, and towards a huge and necessary step in resolving their parental issues before they can pass into life’s Adult Stage.
“Surely she did that because she wanted to love a man, yet you say she wanted to be loved. It’s a good summary of their relationship and the tragedy of Touka’s own self conflicting selflessness.”
I agree with the Adam and Eve stuff as they will effectively be the parents of the new world of the Half-Ghoul ideology, but not the conclusion drawn from Eto’s speech; isn’t the point that she wants both? To love and be loved? Isn’t that exactly what Touka has received?
“Characters consciously wanting to change but being unable to do so is basically the theme of the past ten chapters.”
…But they have changed. In the past ten chapters before 125, and the chapters after them, characters have been addressing their past mistakes and moving beyond them. Their core desires may remain the same but that’s what makes them them. That’s what good, realistic character development is; to change their behaviour and their outlook without ever changing them into a completely different person. Amon has moved past his grudge against Ghouls and even the specific Ghoul that killed his mentor, and hopes to create what is a truly righteous world; Akira has come to drop her father’s vendetta and understand Ghouls as people; Urie is placing his morals above his position in the CCG; Saiko has finally decided to make a stand; Takizawa has found purpose and selflessness in his life once more along with something like a reason to live;and finally, Kaneki and Touka have talked over their relationship that has thus far been fraught with misunderstanding and reaped their reward, finally discovering the love that both of them have been searching for. That’s what makes this the Sun Arc of revelation. They don’t need to become different people, they just need to become the best versions of themselves.
Then there’s the rest that I can mostly skim over (haven’t read Berserk yet so I haven’t looked too deeply into that segment, but I will say that inspiration =/= exact paralleling):
16 for Tower:
I’ve already made the case for the Sun and I don’t really see what would be the point in doing the Tower again when we’re already long past that point in the Fool’s Journey. The Sun has much more appropriate timing.
Impressive analysis of Tsukiyama’s aesthetic/emotional divide, but considering how chill and even excited Tsukiyama was to hear about the Touken marriage, I think the fandom has collectively misjudged the nature of Tsukiyama’s feelings towards Kaneki. He’s already moved past his obsessive stage in the Rose Arc, and now I think, rather than wanting Kaneki all to himself, he just wants to be his friend because most of his other friends are now dead (a comedic omake doesn’t suggest any truly deep emotion on Shuu’s part). And I don’t think that’s an avoidance of reality. Goat was about bringing people from all corners together past their grudges to form a cohesive unit dedicated to creating a better world.
So Tsukiyama’s forgiveness of Kaneki seems to have been the mature thing to do, similar to Amon forgiving Touka, because they all share the same real enemy: the world - the egg they must shatter. Tsukiyama ending his emotional isolation by joining Goat is thus a positive emotional development his character, and so I highly doubt a betrayal. I think Furuta uttering Shuu’s alias was more of a hint to his identity as Souta than any kind of foreshadowing, and Shuu throwing open the door on Kaneki and Touka is due to him being Kaneki’s second-in-command rather than any symbolic reason.
Hinami will also not defect. I’m concerned that the meta considers Hinami joining Aogiri a positive development for her character and her joining Goat to be negative. Joining a sadistic Ghoul terrorist organisation is never a positive development for anyone’s character, and indeed the narrative punished her for that decision. Aogiri did teach her strength, yes, but Goat allows her to use that strength together with her kindness. Just as it is made very clear that Kaneki was wrong to leave Anteiku, so it is made clear that Hinami was wrong to join Aogiri - the kind of isolated rebellion the analyst prefers is not considered favourably by Ishida, who has consistently championed the benefits of community, teamwork and understanding above the follies of reckless self-destruction.
So yeah, that’s my two-cents where that’s concerned. Sorry for the delay btw anon, but, uh, you can see why.
Hallsy Smut…? (I realize this was a random request received but it got my brain
going and it was written quickly and was super helpful in getting my writing
A/N: This is
a story containing smut and if that’s not your thing I probably would refrain
from reading it. If you’re fine with
said scenario all I have to say is anger towards Taylor turns into angry sex
with Taylor. This is my first attempt at
smut so let me know what you think of it and if you’d like to see more stories

big thank you needs to be said to @bostonstrongforlife for proofreading the

of the bathroom I tried listening to the game recap as I brushed my teeth. I knew the outcome of the game, I had watched
it in its entirety, but was hoping for a little positivity to be spoken by the
announcers. Rinsing out my mouth I knew this
was not going to be the night they granted my wish.
of my lounge pants and hoodie I grabbed one of Taylor’s t-shirts from his
drawer and pulled it on as I slid under the covers to await his call. It was already later than the normal time he
called after games which was fine since I knew he was going to be grumpy.
Hey there! I really love all your analysis and metas. It's very informative and interesting so I wanted to ask, what is your view regarding tododeku, bakudeku and todobaku? It doesn't have to be romantically (unless you ship them 😏) but more like umm...dynamic wise??? Lol am I even making any sense
Thanks Anon, I have fun doing those and if others enjoy it as well
it’s even better (even if it’s nowhere near satisfying as I keep
forgetting a lot of things, there’s just so much to consider in
BNHA!). Regarding those relationships, where to begin? You gave me quite the ask! I hope I won’t
offend anyone, it’s only my opinion and you’re obviously free to
disagree with me.
1. Todoroki and Bakugou
Firstly, about Todoroki and Bakugou. I find their relationship
interesting, and funny as well because of the differences of attitude
they have. I’m curious about what it could become, and I’m still
waiting to see some development before having a proper opinion on
those two. After all, Todoroki and Bakugou barely talked at all for
the time they knew each other. At the very beginning, Bakugou
admitted Todoroki was strong (not in front of him though), but it
feed his inferiority complex and anxiety, and continued to do so
during the sports festival. Bakugou was angry against Todoroki
because he defied Izuku but not him, like he wasn’t good enough to be
challenged as well. For someone as proud and mentally frail as
Bakugou, it really sparked dislike towards Todoroki because he was
acting the same as Izuku from his perspective; he was looking down on
him. Even though Bakugou learned Todoroki’s backstory, as he was
eavesdropping (or just accidentally came at the wrong moment) at his
and Izuku’s conversation, it didn’t change his behavior towards
him. He knows Todoroki’s backstory, but unlike Izuku, Bakugou didn’t
take that into consideration when they fought, because he wasn’t
ready to support anyone else at the moment, as he barely could
support himself. Bakugou was misreading why Todoroki won’t use his
flames against him because he was sure Todoroki looked down on him
due to his anxiety issues and his inferiority complex, and as a
result probably disliked him even more. It seems to be a very
one-sided rivalry Bakugou established between them. Bakugou is very
displeased to be with Todoroki during the test of courage at their
training camp, and as chill as Todoroki is, Bakugou is clearly
struggling getting along with him.
They’re not on the same page at all, as Todoroki clearly doesn’t
care about Bakugou’s angry outbursts and acts like it doesn’t really bother him. He’s unfazed about Bakugou because he seems to thinks it’s just him being childish overall.
Though it doesn’t stop him from caring about him as a fellow
classmate. He went along with Kirishima and planned with him to save
Bakugou because he felt guilty he let Bakugou being snatched up just before his eyes. But
it’s like Izuku said; it can’t be Todoroki either who helps
Bakugou because he’s wary towards him and makes him feel threatened
as well. The only one Bakugou trusts and feels comfortable with is
Kirishima; from the moment it was confirmed and canon, I couldn’t
really picture Bakugou being more emotionally involved with anyone else
but him. But Todoroki and Bakugou’s relationship is interesting from
another perspective. Like Bakugou, Todoroki is still sorting things
out about himself. It’s not a coincidence both of them failed their
provisional licence exam; they are both still struggling with their
issues, and their identities as heroes. Todoroki and Bakugou are the
only ones who didn’t really found a true hero name yet, something
confirming their identity like everybody else. Bakugou still needs to
awake to his urge to save, and we, and Todoroki as well, don’t really
know what are his objectives as a hero either. As Todoroki himself
realized during their provisional licence exam, he’s still far from
having overthrown what his father shaped him into.
And Bakugou really
needs to look back at his definition of what a hero is, or he’ll
self-destruct before a villain may take him down.
A hero can’t possibly
shoulder absolutely every responsibility and win all the time, even less all by themself, the
very fate and end of All Might proved it. That’s why they’re both
going to supplementary classes, and who knows what they’ll be faced
with? It’s possible nothing will come out of it as well. Those two
didn’t seem to have any particular chemistry so far, and kinda like
Izuku and Bakugou, they aren’t on the same page and struggle to
communicate properly and understand each other. But the few
similarities they have are interesting, and maybe they could bound
about that issue over figuring their hero names and deciding who they
want to be as heroes.
2. Bakugou and Izuku
About Bakugou and Izuku now. I already wrote a lot about those two
in some posts I’ll link here, so if you’re curious and have some
time to spare, you can always go and read. Their relationship is very
complex, and to understand how it works, I think it’s essential to
realize what mental issues Bakugou is facing, what they’re both
representing in a super-hero obsessed lucrative society and what still needs to be addressed about Bakugou. I do think those two could very
well make wonders if they could properly work as a team, I’m sure of
it and I’m really eager to see that, but as friends, they really
don’t have a good chemistry going on between them. They struggle to
understand each other, as Bakugou immediately flares up against
Izuku, and Izuku admitted he couldn’t talk to Bakugou without being
reminded of all of his flaws.
Their fight against All Might after the
Stain incident was really terrible; Bakugou was aggressive with Izuku
and hit him out of nowhere when Izuku was just trying to talk to him,
and as a result, Izuku also punched Bakugou because he told All Might he’d
rather lose than win with Izuku, which would have been on total
opposition with Bakugou’s core as a character and Izuku idealized
image of him (he is the image of Victory in Izuku’s mind after all),
and enough was enough.
They were really the worst duo. Their dynamics
are still flawed, and they need to sort out a lot of things. Bakugou
needs to talk and apologize to Izuku, but he’ll do that once he’ll
have settled down with his own issues. His mental state is still too
frail to do any of that, but it’s improving as Bakugou already shown
signs of being more peaceful around Izuku, but it’ll need time for
3. Izuku and Todoroki
Now what do I think about Todoroki and Izuku? They have a very
sweet and supportive relationship, I won’t say I ship it but I can
definitely understand those who do. Izuku was the first Todoroki
opened up to, and really, I won’t spent much time talking about the
UA sports festival because what happened was so strong and important
that it talks for itself. Izuku delivered Todoroki from his trapped
mindset and encouraged him to break free and use his fire powers even though they
were supposed to be enemies. At the time, Izuku and Todoroki barely
knew each other but it didn’t stop Izuku caring for Todoroki. As
it was very meaningful, it was only the beginning of their
relationship, and what I like the most about their relationship isn’t
this moment. It’s rather everything that happens afterwards and
consolidates their friendship, because that’s truly how good
relationships, friendly, romantic or any other ones, are built; by
spending time with each other, growing to feel comfortable with them
and trusting them.
Todoroki came and helped Izuku and Iida during the
Stain incident, talked and opened up to Iida as well, and as a
result, the three bounded over this secret they shared. Izuku and
Todoroki began to grew accustomed to each other because they shared
meaningful moments where they were exposed to each other, and I’m
also taking into account the time Izuku and Iida laughed because
Todoroki seriously thougth he had a bad influence on others’ hands.
Both of them realized Todoroki was also a kid of their age, something
that was difficult to consider given how mature and serious Todoroki
looks all the time. After everything that happened, Todoroki finally
began to act like a teen his own age because he could finally be
himself, but he was kept in a toxic mindset for so long by his father
that he still needs to sort out who he is and who he wants to be.
Sure, he doesn’t want to be Endeavor’s replica, but who does he want
to be, what does he want to achieve exactly? Todoroki still has
issues with that, as he’s still picking up pieces of him together and
just began to go talk to his mother once again. Izuku already helped
Todoroki, and did again during their provisional licence exam when
Todoroki was trailing after Inasa and loosing sight of the exam’s
Todoroki needs to settle things with
himself before he’ll be satisfied, have some clear goals in mind and move on, but it seems it’s on a good path with Izuku. Given their
chemistry, I won’t be surprised if he developed feelings for him; like Shinsou, he seems to think Izuku is quite the specimen and appreciate being around this curious straightforward boy.
At least he’s also a good source of
support for Izuku, showing their friendship is mutual and not
one-sided by Izuku trying to reach out desperately to him (am I
being obvious about which relationship I’m targeting?), and I found
adorable how he gave good advice and some of his food to Izuku to
comfort him when he was feeling down, without forcing him to talk. As Izuku manifested support for him after their provisional licence exam, Todoroki also proves to be here and has Izuku’s back as well, because they value each other.
I’m curious to see their relationship progress, because there’s a lot of potential, and impatient to see them work
together and support each other through meaningful moments once more when they’ll be more mature and powerful.
