Join the Reed community as we celebrate Black History Month and honor the importance of Black history, the Civil Rights Movement, and the contributions of African Americans to American history and culture.

Speakers include: Walidah Imarisha, co-editor, and Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, contributing author to the anthology, Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements; Jamil Smith, senior editor at New Republic and former MSNCB producer; Intisar Abioto, local writer, dancer photographer, and multidisciplinary artist; Tiq Milan, one of the leading voices for transgender equality and co-chair of the LGBT task force of the National Association of Black Journalists; and Dr. Al Frankowski, assistant professor of philosophy at Northeastern Illinois University and author of The Post-Racial Limits of Memorialization: Toward a Political Sense of Mourning.
