Sandra Bullock speaking (very good) German

She was born in Arlington, Virginia - her father was a U.S. Army employee and part-time voice coach; her mother, Helga Mathilde Meyer, was an opera singer and voice teacher. Her father was from Alabama with English, Irish, German, and French ancestry; her mother was German, as in, born in Germany to German parents. Her maternal grandfather was a rocket scientist in Nürnberg, Southern Germany. Her father, who was in charge of the Army’s Military Postal Service in Europe, was stationed in Nürnberg, where he met her mother. They married in Germany and moved to Virginia, where he worked with the Army Materiel Command, before becoming a contractor for The Pentagon, but she was also raised in Nürnberg for 12 years and grew up speaking German, attending the humanistic Waldorf Schule. As a child, she accompanied her mother on European opera tours, studying ballet and vocal arts and taking small parts in her mother’s operas. She sang in the opera’s children’s choir at the Staatstheater Nürnberg in Bayern (Bavaria). In the US, she attended Washington-Lee High School, where she was a cheerleader and performed in theater productions. Until the age of 18, she held German/American dual citizenship; in 2009, she reapplied for German citizenship. In the video, she pretty much sounds perfect in the German dialect she grew up in, but makes a few mistakes with der/die/das and by literally “translating” American expressions into German, so you can tell she’s not German but clearly grew up in a very specific area that speaks that dialect. It’s quite funny to us because she basically sounds Fränkisch. :)
