I don’t know how many of my followers are guitar players, but I have had this Axe-Fx II for about two weeks now and it is legitimately the coolest thing ever. It’s like having every amp imaginable plus more. It’s even photogenic ;)
This lesson came about from a conversation I had on twitter. I wanted to try to demonstrate how it is more important to be able to use simple arpeggios and other structures than knowing a lot of exotic scales or arpeggios. Because the good a lot of goods melodies can be made with very simple structures. This is why I took one arpeggio and used that in 10 II V I licks.
Chord solos are a great way to have some other material to use in solos to vary the sound of the single note lines. They are also a good way to get a fuller sound of the guitar almost sounding like a complete horn section in a big band, which it also will often resemble because of the melodies and voice-leading it contains.
