forced ultrasounds

  • Republicans: "There's no war on women."
  • Republicans: *attempts to shut down women's health centers based in whether or not they provide abortion*
  • Republicans: *attempts to criminalize abortion*
  • Republicans: "If it's a legitimate rape..." "Rape is inevitable, might as well lie back and enjoy it." "If women have the right to an abortion then men have the right to rape." "Rape is a gift from God." "Rape happens for a reason."

  • Republicans: *have not expressed approval of the Pregnant Workers Act*

One more obgyn bit of advice, about ultrasounds and your options

I lied. One more tidbit, which was hidden in the tags of my last post.

When you are FAAB and on testosterone for a while, your doc is gonna be concerned about  endometrial cancer. Since your menses has stopped, you’re no longer sloughing off the cells up in there, which can possibly lead to problems. (This is why a hysto is more than a dysphoria-combating surgery for transmen. It also reduces cancer risk.)

Your doc may prescribe an ultrasound to check that things are healthy.

(They may also prescribe progesterone, which basically forces a period and makes you bleed. My doc just wanted to put me on this as a precaution, but since I was NOPE about having a period, even just once a year, I asked for more info and found out that the ultrasound would be sufficient, if a bit pricier.)

So, the ultrasound. Another fun procedure. There’s a good chance you may be prescribed a vaginal ultrasound. This is… fairly invasive. The device is NOT small, especially if you are not a fan of penetration / have not experienced penetration yet.

I looked for the least traumatizing visual I could find to demonstrate the size of the wand. Steven Colbert to the rescue:

So, yeah. When the tech showed me the wand, I flat-out said, “there’s no way that is happening without injury to the both of us.”

To which she replied, “Well, why didn’t you opt for the traditional ultrasound? All you need is to have a full bladder.”

WAT.

SERIOUSLY?! I CAN SKIP BLEEDING FOR A WEEK AND NOT HAVE A CRUDE DILDO SHOVED UP THAT PARTICULARLY ORNERY HOLE IN EXCHANGE FOR JUST NEEDING TO DRINK TIL I REALLY, REALLY HAVE TO PEE, THEN YOU’LL PUT SOME GEL ON MY ABDOMEN AND MOVE A MOUSE AROUND LIKE YOU’RE PLAYING AROUND IN PHOTOSHOP?

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS. WHY DID I HAVE TO ASK. ಠ_ಠ

Women are very clear that forced government ultrasounds are not ‘cool.’
—

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards

Richards responded to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s decision to sign a law in Wisconsin mandating ultrasounds for women before they get abortions. Walker stated “It’s just a cool thing out there”, regarding the ultrasounds.

No medical reference. No patients’ rights. No decision between doctor and patient. Just Walker’s ‘big government’ opinion.

This is the same guy who proudly defunds Planned Parenthood for women who are pregnant and need pre-natal care. Where is the logic?
