for the purpose of existing

Anonymous asked:

This may be stupid, but is it okay to kill a side character for main character development? Thank you and have a good day!!!

I don’t recommend it. At the very least, the character needs to have had another purpose in the story–preferably an important one–besides just existing to be killed off for character development. Also, you should generally avoid the following:

- killing female characters solely for the development of male characters
- killing POC characters solely for the development of a white character
- killing LGBTQ+ characters solely for the development of a straight character
- killing a character with a disability soley for the development of a character without one
- killing a child character solely for the development of an adult character
- killing an older character solely for the development of a younger character

These tend to not sit well with readers.

Have a writing question? I’d love to hear from you! Prohibited questions: howto portray/describe things (characters, emotions, situations), specialist knowledge questions (medical, military, mental health, etc.), asking for tropes/cliches or resources, triggering/controversial topics; broad, vague, or complicated questions. I’m sure people probably wonder “if toxic masculinity is talked about then why does no one mention toxic feminimity”, but you see, the thot alarm exists exactly for that purpose

IT WASN’T SUPPOSED TO END THIS WAY.

I don’t often make non-art posts here, but there’s been a recent event involving a certain abhorrent fandom who I’m sure you’re all familiar with that’s really been bugging me.

As some of you are aware of a Steven Universe art book was released, there was a scrapped designed for a crystal gem named “concrete” with features that might bare semblance to a certain race or racial stereo type.  Alongside said concept piece were some notes from a writer on the show (writer/boarder?  I’m not entirely sure) that mention they “can’t read” and “collects shoes”.  All of these together have people hooting and hollering over a bunch of silly coincidences, which is par the course for that particular group of people.  They complain at every turn when it comes to stuff they deem as “social injustices” or some kind of “racial prejudice” in relation to these characters or plot points for the story.  Let’s get some shit straight though:

Steven Universe is a work of fiction.  The people behind Steven Universe don’t have any ill-intent with what they’re creating.

There’s a lot of stupid kids on this website, and for every stupid kid there’s at least 2-3 adults that aren’t right in the head that believe they’re doing the right thing by starting witch hunts and doing everything within their power to ruin a creator.  For example:

The wording in their posts is that of someone who believes what they’re doing is slick, what they’re doing is undoubtedly the right thing.  This person legitimately believes trying to learn who wrote some words that were attributed to some other person’s random concept art scribble for the sake of shitting on them is the right thing to do and will encourage the creator’s of the show to keep bending to their demands.  You’re a part of several things that stifle creators visions, you’re legit contributing to the ruination of an art form because you’re doing backflips to insist that something is racist, and going an extra step just to run some unrelated person’s name into the ground.

I don’t even like this show.  Steven Universe isn’t a cartoon I enjoy, I’d say it’s bad in a lot of places.  I wouldn’t, however, say that I hate it so much that I think the team behind it needs to catch shit over something this petty.  They especially don’t need this coming from people who exist for the sole purpose of dragging down creators because they deem a piece of media is that offensive to their sensibilities.  This nonsense as reached a fever pitch and now is the absolute best time to tell the loud minority: “No.  What we created wasn’t meant to offend.  These are the people responsible, their intent wasn’t to offend.  This design wasn’t even used, calm down.”

Children out for blood, shit, adults with the _mindset of children_ out for blood over a cartoon.  You’re absolutely mad if you believe this is the way to settle a disagreement.  If you’re young, don’t get involved with something this trivial.  If you’re an adult and legitimately upset at this, you might be beyond saving.  For the love of God get over yourselves.

I don’t think you should ever give up on love completely, no matter how much you’ve been hurt or how broken you feel.
It doesn’t have to be romantic love if you don’t want it to be – you can still be a loving person and not be in love… but don’t ever close your heart completely.
Be kind. Be gentle. Be empathetic.
Each of these are, in their own way, an act of love.
Love is everywhere if you want it to be… even in safe places. It is in the faces of family and friends, it is in the bond an animal shares with you… it is in the smell of the rain as it kisses parched earth. You don’t have to look for love to find it; it’s a feeling, a warmth…and it is everywhere… You can’t avoid it, and nor should you try; it is the reason you are here… the reason for your existence… a quiet purpose trying to reveal itself…
the signs as Rick and Morty quotes
  • Aries: I've got about a thousand memories of your dumb little ass and about six of them are pleasant, the rest is annoying garbage!
  • Taurus: Get your shit together. Get it all together and put it in a backpack, all your shit, so it's together. And if you gotta take it somewhere, take it somewhere, you know? Take it to the Shit Store and sell it, or put it in a Shit Museum, I don't care what you do, you just gotta get it together. Get your shit together.
  • Gemini: Listen, I'm not the nicest guy in the universe because I'm the smartest, and being nice is something stupid people do to hedge their bets.
  • Cancer: Aw, man. I really liked this life. Well, at least I didn't really crap my pants.
  • Leo: Whatever you're asking, the answer is I'm amazing.
  • Virgo: What, so everyone's supposed to sleep every single night now? You realize that nighttime makes up half of all time?
  • Libra: Yeah sure, I mean, if you spend all day shuffling words around, you can make anything sound bad.
  • Scorpio: I thought the whole point of having a dog was to feel superior. If I were you I wouldn't pull that thread.
  • Sagittarius: You gotta flip 'em off, I told them it means "peace among worlds", how hilarious is that!
  • Capricorn: Don't waste your brain on those weirdos... They just put you at the center of their lives because you're powerful, and then because they put you there, they want you to be less powerful.
  • Aquarius: Okay, well...sometimes science is more art than science. Lot of people don't get that.
  • Pisces: Nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody's gonna die. Come watch TV?

when I see people post positive things about Liam and Cora

then they say “I hope they’re more interesting than Kaiden and Ashley!!1”

Humans are Weird

SCIENCE!
Beings of the galaxy research for PURPOSES. How to recreate a sound. How to get into space. Humans? Humans randomly poke into shit and ask questions and light stuff on fire and run it through a blender and a spectrometer. Because they can. Because they’re curious.
MOST BEINGS OF THE GALAXY DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF ‘CURIOUS’.
“Human Steve. What are you doing?”
“Trying to figure out what in hell that rock from Taurus nine is made out of.”
“To what purpose?”
“I wanna KNOW.”

Beings of the galaxy visit Earth, and get tours of the research facilities. They are so fragmented. And often IN COMPETITION with each other. Their genome was sequenced IN A RACE. Their most useful antimicrobial medication was found BY ACCIDENT, by a human who would let things grow in his petri dishes ‘just to see what happened’. They are ignoring their own health concerns to clone an extinct mammal no one has a purpose for. Their largest, most expensive experiment ever built is to see about sub-atomic particles that may or may not exist. There is no planned purpose for those particles, either way. They just want to figure it out.

Beings of the galaxy hire as many of these ‘scientists’ as they can, then get out of their way.

Taurus: Mushishi - 46 Episodes (2 seasons)

“Mushi”: the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply “being.” They are beyond the shackles of the words “good” and “evil.” Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.

This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification. Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence.

So what are Mushi and why do they exist? This is the question that a “Mushishi,” Ginko, ponders constantly. Mushishi are those who research Mushi in hopes of understanding their place in the world’s hierarchy of life.

Ginko chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer.

It could, after all, lead to the meaning of life itself.

Heya guyz. this time i brought some fan gem babble!

some of you may have seen her on my past posts, but anyway, this is “Ammonite”. she was one of my first fan gem i made and one of my beloved one and now i wanna share my own story and stuff w/ you guys! :>

So, unlike other gems, she is naturally emerged from Earth very long time ago, even before the Homeworld’s colonizing attempt. She was formed from a crystallized remains of an ancient sea dwelling creature and out of extremely low chance she gained self-consciousness and emerged.

She was found by a research team sent by Homeworld before colonization. At first she was very wild, agile and sensitive like a wild animal but after Yellow Diamond took her in and used her as a personal attack dog to hunt down rogue gems she act more like a very skilled hunter. But still very wild compare to other gems, also sometimes she even act like a predator.

Initially, Yellow Diamond’s plan was to replicate Ammonite for massive army of feral warriors but due to her origin, it was very hard to reproduce Ammonite to the point where it’s too much inefficient. So, to dispose odd one, Yellow Diamond sent Ammonite on a suicide mission after another. However, to Ammonite, Yellow Diamond was the master who gave her a reason for her existence after so many centuries living like an animal, so she did everything she can to pleases her by succeeding her tasks.

Eventually, Ammonite find herself on Earth on a mission to destroy a group of rogue gems and retrieve a Rose Quartz. Ammonite put up a good fight against Crystal Gems, but eventually she was defeated and this is when Ammonite found out she was abandoned by Yellow Diamond. Cast out after all her work and devotion just because she was old and odd, Ammonite was in deep distraught and once again found herself without purpose of existence. That is until Steven try he’s best to comfort her and convince her that she can find her place on Earth somehow. So, she try her best to find her place after leaving Earth so many ages ago.

Her weapon is Atlatl(Spear Thrower). Spear and Atlatl itself can be used separately as a Short Spear and a Club. Her spear can also Detonate on impact and she knows lot of tricks about traps.

As you can see, she is kind of intense person to begin with but as she slowly opens herself to others you can see her being a considerate, caring person. She is just kinda edgy around unfamiliar people. Also, when it comes to a conflict, she’s kinda lean to physical force rather than conversation and peaceful method because she just can’t understand the need of unnecessary effort  when there’s an easy way to produce same result. this is one of the issue that Steven works on with her, and as the time goes she gets around… slowly.

Currently she’s living on Mask Island among trees and ocean. She love being around nature because she find it more comfy and being home. Occasionally, Steven and Connie visits her, and Connie loves to learn about wild surviving skills from Ammonite. At first Ammonite was little bit uncomfortable about Connie but she quickly found her quite likeable.

Also she is quite familiar with eating food from the first place, because that was what she did back on Old Earth. But she is unfamiliar with sweet, salty kinda modern foods so every time Steven introduce her to new foods, it’s quite an adventure to her.

Lastly, well… she does Haka dances and being close friend with one of Watermelon Stevens.. she eats bugs..?

Just imagine it for a moment.

Imagine the pain Jasper went through when she lost her Diamond. The person she was created to serve and protect. Her only choice being to join Yellow Diamond to try to get revenge for her Diamond. To make herself feel like less of a failure.

Imagine Jasper’s hatred toward Rose for betraying her. For destroying her sole purpose for existing.

Imagine Jasper having to grieve alone for millenniums, instead of with her Quartz sisters.

Have you imagined it? Good.

Now, I want you to imagine Jasper finding out that for so long, her hatred was aimed towards the wrong person.

Imagine Jasper finding out that the Diamond she currently serves has been lying to her for thousands of years.

That this Diamond is the reason for all of her pain and suffering. That this Diamond is the one responsible for the Death of Pink Diamond.

Jasper will return, this we already know. And when she finds out the truth, her enemy won’t be Rose anymore.

She’ll be after a Diamond.
