for people to colour if they want to

ya local trans nb boy is back in town
and this time, I’m here to kinda and shortly talk about everything that’s happened of good this year, when it comes to LGBT+ stuff:
- came out to a bunch of school people who accepted me gladly and openly
- my mom is more accepting
- and I have wonderful LGBTQ+ friends who deserve all the love in life, even though we met not so long ago (looking at you Ron)
Be proud of who you are, be a damn beautiful butterfly who flutters in the most beautiful colours of your chosen flag(s), be who you want to be, no one but yourself gets to choose your life

I don't understand oppression very well, because my understanding is we can all vote, work and go to school. I worry about the same things you do, it concerns me that BLM actually do want revenge on my children. White men don't get preference in a job or school to fill a minority quote like you and women do though.... there'll always be racism but how are you oppressed souly on race

White people are still treated as superior.
That’s the truth.
There’s no disputing the fact that white people get preferential treatment to non whites.
And in a world where one skin colour and one gender are seen as superior,
Someone else has got to be inferior;
‘Minority groups’.
People who aren’t white and male are called ‘minority groups’.
In my opinion, that speaks volumes.
I support Black Lives Matter.
Black lives matter is about reminding people just that.
Not more than white lives,
Not instead of,
As well as.
It’s that simple.
Movements which strive for equality are nobody’s enemy.
Movements trying to end racism should not be ignored and made out to be a threat.
They should be listened to.
‘But why are they protesting just for black lives?’
‘Why don’t they say white lives matter?’
Because white lives matter is a given.
Everybody knows that white lives matter,
But somehow they seem to have forgotten that black lives matter too.
That black lives are just as important as white lives.
Because black lives are being taken just because of the colour of their skin.
White lives are not.
Open your eyes.
There’s no smoke without fire.
Racism is not just a way of life that ‘will always exist’.
People are dying.
Children are being murdered.
It is not okay to normalise or minimise this.
Racism does not need to exist.
It does not need to be a part of everyday life.
People are not born racist.
Racism is a flaw in today’s society.
Not a foundation.

Here’s some links to better understand oppression and racism:

eddiekaaspbraak  asked:

For the moodboards you're doing, what exactly does theme entail?

Ah good question. I guess ‘theme’ really isn’t the best word choice in this context. 😅

The theme could be what colour you’d like, a mood, a location (wherever you want the person/people to be), a season, etc.

Really you can just describe to me what you want the moodboard to be about so that I can have a better idea of what you’re looking for and it can be as personalized as possible!

I don't have any problem with people of colour in this show, but the thing that really pisses me of is the white diversity. Why does is look like that every white human character has Anglo-Saxon roots? I want to see some Slavic, south European or north European people. Is it too much to ask for?

I went back and forth about putting this on a gif confession and decided that I would answer it instead because I think this has a tone that the confessor didn’t mean intentionally.

Starting a sentence  with “I don’t have any problem with people of colour in this show, but…” is racist and defensive.

I understand that there isn’t a lot of diversity among the white cast but I am so happy to see such diversity among the people of colour in the cast and, honestly. It’s a nice change from seeing 32 different white people.

This type of diversity sadly doesn’t happen much in TV and movies so complaining that there aren’t enough variations of white people just proves the point why Discovery’s casting decision are so important.

Okay kids today we’re gonna talk about Edmonia Lewis

Edmonia was a sculptor in the 19th century, and was half African-American and half Native American. She was one of the first people of colour from America to earn international fame and success for her artwork. She started sculpting during the civil war and trained under some of the most influential abolitionist sculptors of the time.

Not only was she a successful WOC artist, but she sculpted other people of colour in the neoclassical style:

Forever Free (1867)

Old Arrow-Maker and his Daughter (1866)

The Marriage of Hiawatha (1866)

Do you know how rare it was in the 19th century to have a piece of artwork show black people or Native Americans without them being ‘savages’ or half naked? Let me tell you, it’s pretty damn rare.

She would purposely leave her women more clothed than her male figures to desexualise them, and I probably don’t need to tell you why that was important at this time (if you really want to see how white artists saw black women, look up American Slave and The Virginian Slave).

Unfortunately she was made to make her female figures look more European as she got backlash accusing her of inserting herself into figures BUT they’re still hugely impressive given that most famous sculptors at this time had teams of people working on their work and adding all the details by hand, whereas Edmonia did absolutely everything herself.

Basically I think about Edmonia Lewis a lot and I think more people should know about her.

All About Auras

An aura could best be described as the energy given off by someone or something. Supposedly, everything has an aura, even an apple. Many people are able to either see or ‘sense’ auras, which may appear as a haze of light or colour surrounding something.

The colour an aura appears can have many correspondences, which can relate to someone’s mood or spirituality, or can be because of external factors such as light intensity. It’s even said to be possible to tell if someone is pregnant from the way their aura appears.

Common misconceptions about auras:

  • It is always the same colour.  - This is untrue, as auras tend to change colour when affected by many different factors. However one colour may be dominant.
  • It is always the same shape and texture.  - Nope, they could appear hazy, smooth, or spiky. Some could have auras spanning an inch from their bodies, but others could have auras reaching out to a metre.
  • There is scientific evidence for auras.  - Again, untrue. Despite many people being able to see auras, there is no way to measure them or comprehend why it is even there.
  • Your aura is a shield.  - Whilst it’s possible to utilise your energy to shield yourself from things through visualisation, your aura alone is by no means a barrier against spirits and vampire-like entities looking to ‘feed off’ your energy. Learn how to ward yourself.
  • There is only one colour at a time.  - Your visible aura can actually be a mix of colours. However, there are also seven different extents of your aura, ranging from physical to spiritual, which could all be a different colour at one time.
  • It is especially important to note that auras are constantly changing. This could be seen as Anicca, or impermanence, in which the Buddha taught that nothing is permanent and everything is constantly changing. The aura reflects this truth in ourselves and those around us.

Seeing Your Aura

Some people are able to see auras with ease without a whole lot of practice, whereas others might never be able to comprehend the aura. It is common for many witches to practice with seeing their aura.

Here is a simple exercise which will help you to begin seeing your aura. This is what I tend to get people to do often when starting with auras. If inexperienced, it is important to practice often in order to get better!

  1. You may want to begin by meditating or casting a circle in order to have a better focus on your aura. Make sure you are calm and in the mindset to concentrate.
  2. Find a blank area, such as a white wall or a sheet of paper, and hold your hand out to it. It is important that you don’t get distracted by the colour of the wall or anything on it.
  3. Rather than focusing directly onto your hand, shift your gaze to look just past it. For instance just past your fingers, but not the space directly between your fingers.
  4. Focus on this space. To avoid distracting yourself, practice steady breathing as you would in meditation.
  5. Eventually, you should begin to see a haze of light surrounding your hand. At first it may appear small and even colourless, but keep practicing and you will start to see it even better.

Colour Correspondences

The colour of an aura can have many connotations, and can be dictated by thr shape and texture too. But here is a guide to help you with the typical deciption of simple aura colours.

Centred/grounded, passion, anger, energetic.

Power, confidence, outgoing, good health.

Spiritual awakening/awareness, playful, happiness.

Healing, good communication, jealousy.

Intuition, calm, clairvoyance, honesty, fear of the future.

Daydreaming, spirituality, artistic, psychic abilities.

Newness, purity, reaching enlightenment, angelic.

Negative feelings, blocked energy, potential illness.

Grounded, tied to the outdoors, afraid to let go.

Loving, sensual, psychic gifts, dishonesty.

Physical and spiritual wealth, awakening of higher thought.

Enlightenment, protection from divine entities, guidance.

A rainbow aura can indicate a healer, a new soul, or reaching enlightenment.

There’s Nothing Wrong With You

One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard was “There’s nothing wrong with you”.

It was a Monday morning and I was relaxing with friends in a hotel pool after playing Lollapalooza. A lady bobbed opposite me sipping a ginormous glass of rose, and we started chatting. She was a stylist and told me that, when her clients tried outfits on and looked at themselves in the mirror, she would tell them “There’s nothing wrong with you”. I asked her why and she said, “because we all think there’s something wrong with us ”. It was such an odd, simple notion, but I felt like a little flower had opened up inside of me. It hadn’t occurred to me that it could be a universal feeling. There was always something so wrong with ME, I hadn’t considered that other people might feel the same. The comment stuck with me like glue for the next year.

I lived most of my life feeling like there was something deeply wrong with me. Everything I did was somehow geared towards fixing the parts of myself I thought were bad or ‘broken’. There was also an odd safety in being broken. I could quietly blame it for anything that went wrong in my life: “It’s not my fault: I’m f**ed up and I am very sorry!”. For a while, I had counselling, and though it was extremely helpful, I started to feel uneasy at the idea of chatting about my problems, potentially for years, if I chose to. Like, really… When would I be fixed?

For me, life =  Experiences + reactions to those experiences. The only power I have is choosing how I react to them. So, though I might have uncomfortable emotional reactions, I can choose to a) accept these emotions, instead of resisting them, and b) not interpret my thoughts as the Solid Gold Truth. Whatever your problems may be, (diagnosed or not), they don’t equate to you being broken. In my own life, it’s been unhelpful to think of mental health problems in this way, particularly when you’re struggling. You are who you are at this moment in time, and you’re doing your best. Brains are plastic. People can, and do, change.

If you follow my music, it probably won’t come as a big surprise to know that I’ve dealt with mental health issues for a long time. There have been 3 things that have helped me decrease periods of depression though. For anyone in the same position, I hope this helps.

1. Meditation

This changed my mind + my life. I started doing meditation in 2013 after Electra Heart had ended. I was burnt out and desperate for change. I took no classes, read no books - just looked at a 5 minute explanation on the internet. I didn’t even do it every day. Just 20 minutes in the morning or evening. In the beginning, I felt a little dubious about the idea of “wasting 20 whole minutes” on meditation each day. But here’s the thing: Meditation is like a vacuum for your mind. It sucks up all the dust and rubbish thoughts. I can easily waste 20 minutes looking at something on the internet that I’ll never think about again, so I can invest 20 minutes in something that changes the quality of my life. This blog described Meditation as “one of the best responses to modern information overload”. I truly believe it can be an antidote to our digital lives.

2. Exercise

I know, I know. When you’re depressed, the last thing you want to do is go outside INTO THE REAL WORLD! But if you’re bottom-of-the-barrel depressed, you have nothing to lose. For years I loved to declare that I “didn’t have a body that could run”  (in order to escape ever having to actually run). But when I start meditation, the negative thoughts about myself decreased and I started to want good things for myself. The motive of exercising was not to lose weight, so it had a different energy to it.

3. Identifying With Thoughts

The reality is, I still deal with depression, but my reaction to it is different. I am more aware of its mechanisms so I don’t take my thoughts as seriously. I try not to identify with a thought and interpret it as truth just because it came into my mind. Why? Because the way I think and respond to events is largely based on my past experiences, so how can I know that my thoughts are my own and not coloured by my past? This is why I don’t always trust my thoughts, particularly when they are of the negative variety. A book I hugely recommend on this is called “Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle.

I’ve wanted to write this post for a long time for people who struggle with similar issues. Our culture has taught us to see happiness as some kind of end goal, but for me, the best thing about it is that it doesn’t stick around forever. Human beings need to experience some level of suffering in order to evolve emotionally and consciously. And though depression often feels like you’re stuck, or stagnating, it can also be a healthy way of your mind telling you that something isn’t quite right, and that it’s in the process of changing. We tend to view sadness as something unnatural, or negative, but perhaps viewing it as a necessary process might help us accept the low periods, and move through them more easily.

Before writing my last album, I honestly thought that I had just been born unhappy and that depression was a permanent part of me. I don’t believe that anymore. When I was writing ‘FROOT’ I felt like I was kissing goodbye to a big chapter of my life. That portion of my youth was heart-splitting and lonely at times, but it was also dazzling and beautiful. And that’s how life is for a lot of us. If only I’d known all those years that it was just part of being human.

“Niall is the straightest member of 1D”

No one is probably gonna read this but I’m writing it anyways because I feel like it’s important to talk about, and no one really did before.

From the moment I joined the 1d fandom (2012) Niall was referred to as the captain of the Larry ship, and later the captain of the Ziam ship as well. A big portion of this fandom saw him as the guy who was secretly outing his best mates by sending ‘signs’ or just simply standing in the middle of them. He was the biggest ally to them but also the only straight member of the band. These people didn’t just call him ‘straight’, no, they called him ‘the straightest’. They based this all on stereotypes because Niall loves beer, sports and the way he dresses is TOTALLY straight.

This isn’t some post about proving how ‘not straight’ Niall is, this is a post that explains how wrong and disgusting it is that people gave him this role in the band.

First of all, let me start off by saying Niall NEVER stated his sexuality, he never even talked about it on any public occasion. Which means if you think Niall is straight, you’re basing it on nothing but stereotypes. If you’re basing it on the fact that he’s dated women, I’d like to congratulate you on your bi/pan erasure.

Second, Niall goes around calling men attractive, hot, sexy, you name a compliment and Niall probably gave it to a guy. Not to mention he’s very cuddly and touchy with other men as well. Now I’m not saying this means anything for his sexuality, he could be straight and still be like this. However, when Harry (or any of the other boys, but Harry is the most similar to Niall in this) gives a guy a compliment about his looks, or when he’s close with another man people freak out because this OBVIOUSLY means he’s gay. (Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.)

Third, Niall has shown his support for the LGBT+ community on multiple occasions but this is usually swept under the rug because most people don’t CARE!! Just recently Niall wore rainbow socks that are literally called ‘pride socks’ on the Happy Socks website and the description says ‘wear to show your support for the lgbt+ community.’ He did this in a country where homosexuality was recently ruled as a disease and yet barely any of these people commented on it, and if they did it was often something like ‘okay but rainbows don’t always stand for lgbt+ pride… :/’ or they see it as proof he’s ‘SUCH an ally, he really wants Larry and Ziam out!!’ AND YET these same people flipped shit when Harry grabbed a random rainbow mug (that didn’t even have the right colours) in the DMD video. And don’t get me wrong, I think Harry is amazing for all the support he gave the lgbt+ community, and I think the stuff he’s doing with the pride flags at his concert is great but there’s a reason people started taking these pride flags to Harry’s concert, and never took one to Niall’s. Why are you assuming if a pride flag was thrown on stage during Niall’s gig he wouldn’t take it?

And last, people are often analyzing the songs Harry, Louis, Liam and Zayn wrote to see if their could be a hint of why that song is a gay anthem. They talk about it for YEARS on end when a song doesn’t have pronouns (or no she pronouns) While the biggest percentage of Niall’s album has NO pronouns and no one cares? He might have done this without even thinking about it, and once again I’m not saying we SHOULD be analyzing his lyrics, but the double standards are insane. It’s not even just in lyrics, when Harry uses ‘them’ pronouns while talking people go: “NO STRAIGHT MAN EVER DID THIS” but Niall is talking about ‘someone’ and ‘them’ instead of a girl all the time. And when asked about what This Town was about he said (quote): “It’s basically about when you had a girl or a guy you dated when you were like 12, but when you go home you bump in to them everywhere.” could you IMAGINE the hundreds of posts being made about this if it was any of the other boys who said this? Yet, when it’s Niall no one gives it a second thought.

I’m really sorry about this long post but this had been bothering me for a long time. Niall is NOT the straightest member of 1d, Niall’s sexuality is unknown and remains unknown until he decides to speak up about it. Niall deserves so much more love for the things he does and he doesn’t deserve to be used to prop up  a ship.

How to study 2 languages at the same time
  • Make a schedule;
  • Try to study language X in the afternoon and language Y in the morning; don’t change their order, unless you are advanced enough so you won’t mix them
  • Have different notebooks for them and if you use colors in your notes, think like 1 color = 1 language
  • When you study, have a certain place for each language (e.g. kitchen = French, bedroom = German, living room = Chinese)
  • Don’t focus on the same thing for your languages in the same day, if you watch a movie for language X, don’t watch a movie for language Y after (unless you are upper intermediate), if you watch a movie in X, read something in Y
  • Try to spend the same amount of time on your languages, if you stay 2 hours studying X, you should spend the same amount on Y
  • If you can’t do so, choose your “priority” and study 80% and 20%.
  • Occasionally switch the language that’s your priority.
  • When you practice, at the beginning try to talk to different people, not a person who knows all your target languages
  • If you use sticky notes like me, i assume you have more than 1 colour so again, 1 color =  language
  • Avoid languages from the same family.
  • Use both languages when you want to translate something. If you learn French, then translate a French text to your 2nd language.
  • If you use flashcards a lot, mix them. You practice both languages at once and you learn to switch between them.
  • If you can’t learn 2 languages at the same time, accept that and learn them one by one.
  • Find resources that allow you to use both languages at the same time.
  • Use personas to avoid mixing up your languages.
  • Choose 2 languages with different levels. e.g. if you are intermediate in French, you can start Japanese
  • Avoid starting 2 new languages. If you are a bit advanced in one, it’s better.
  • Accept the fact that you would be biased and like one of your 2 languages more.
  • Experiment new study methods and see what works for you.
